Next-gen isn't going to be as good looking as people think, because the bottleneck for good visuals isn't technology and hardware anymore; it's developer talent and art direction.

Ok, you can have three times more polygons or whatever; but this doesn't matter if you don't have the talent to utilize it. Could I personally make a 3D model that looks better than Lara Croft on the PS1? Probably. Could I make a model that looks better than Lara Croft on the PS4? No way in hell. That's the real problem here. You see developers already trying to side-step this by using photoscanning such as in DMC5 and MK11. But that still doesn't magically create a good-looking game. All you get is incomplete HD assets that serve as a base.

I think the biggest difference for Next-Gen is gonna be just sheer size and scope, more things on screen, more things loaded in faster thanks to SSD's. But visually speaking, I think games have a steep hill to climb. The limiting factor isn't the machine anymore, it's the humans using it.

This gen has been okay I guess. DLC really did kill gaming though, we all knew it would happen. Those were dark times. I feel like we're still recovering from the gimmick years.

God-Tier Japanese AA games have been pumping out since 2016 in full force, this gen was already amazing for anyone with good tastes and there are no signs of stopping.

CPU has a much bigger upgrade compared to GPU. In my estimation next-gen's focus will be 60fps as standard, with AAA trash pushing the raytracing meme and keeping their games at 30fps. But who the fuck cares since only people with shit tastes buy shit.

Normalfags don't want to accept that their beloved developers are actually talentless and only capable of producing buggy, unoptimized games. Especially considering sometimes it's intentional: more storage space just leads to more uncompressed and bloated files.
10 years ago I was looking forward to games supporting hundreds of units at once in the style of M&B, even trash games like Bladestorm and other musou crap got me excited. Red Faction Guerilla, even though it clearly cut a lot of corners, still had pretty good building destruction and made me hopeful. Yet today we still have fuckall, if anything things have regressed.
