It is a pretty badly optimized game to start with.
Many many times you enter a room and kill a monster, the game will freeze frames for 3-5 seconds while it waits to load the enemy drop tables to decide what you get.

Wasn’t Bloodstained’s original Kickstarter (some 20 years ago at this point) supposed to be for the Wii U? It would make sense that the change to porting it to the Switch late in development would lead to a bunch of hiccups. Same as the Hat in Time devs being incompetent and not releasing a Switch port long after they put it everywhere else.

Bloodstained uses UE4 which is super inefficient. The team didn't have the talent or resources to properly re-write this. The game should have never used Unreal.

Someone at some point sold Unreal Engine as a quick and easy to develop for Engine that can be ported to everything. And hey it's the "industry standard" so you backwards Japanese devs should get on board. This is classic executive who doesn't know anything about programming type decision. This wasn't decided by experienced programmers.

I guarantee you the sequel will not use Unreal, but something much more sane.

My PS4 copy crashed 5 times now, I can't even imagine what a mess it is on the Switch.

It's Nintendo being absolute optimization wizards with the added benefit of developing on hardware they themselves created. It's been like this for decades. The Switch isn't a powerful console, Nintendo has simply cultivated insanely talented development crews while also granting them access to every secret of the console. Nobody should expect 3rd party developers to be able to optimize their games to the insane degree that the 1st parties have achieved, the playing field is not even remotely even. This goes double for multiplats, who don't have the luxury of being hand-tailored to accommodate Nintendo hardware. Bloodstained is probably a bad port but asking ports to be on the same level as the exclusives isn't just unreasonable, it's absolutely unrealistic.

Yeah, they reuse and port last gen games and insert a ton of res scaling. It requires minimal effort to reuse assets and engines. Also most Nintendo games in general still look like sub HD gamecube games.

Donkey Kong is great example of a 2D game that can run perfect 60FPS while being 1080p Docked while 720p Handheld
This game had to drop the fucking graphics lower than the fucking gamecube and make it 30FPS to even fucking run the game.

Fire Emblem is not so cut and dry, it's being co-developed by Koei Tecmo, and it may be running on unreal engine, but as far as the terrain goes the game doesn't change the terrain based on zoom, but it also runs at a low resolution and 30fps, so they aren't leveraging the low detail terrain. The actual visual quality makes no sense considering how their last game on a Nintendo console looked.

Because the Switch is weak as fuck.
