Most of the major villains in the series are mad scientists with a punny name starting with the letter N, starting with Dr. Neo Cortex and Dr. N. Brio from the first Crash game. They just kind of kept rolling with it and it's never really explained despite being an absurd coincidence in-universe.

Yes, Hard on Arcade is the same as Hard on Nitro Fueled story mode. And no, as a god-tier player Hard isn't hard at all outside of short maps and AI's ridiculous access to Clocks/Warp Orbs. I can outpace the hard AI, sometimes even lap it, depending on the length of the map. If you're struggling against hard and the map is Crash Cove then don't feel bad, it's just fucking cancer.

Switch loading times are horrid, it's just shy of a full minute. If I get it on Switch it's going to be at a severely discounted price. Comfy racing ain't that worth it.

Switch owner here. The D Pad is shit on both Joy-Cons and Pro Controller, so don't get this version if you like the D Pad.
I think the graphics are fine, I can barely tell it's 720p on my TV and while 480p undocked sucks, that also doesn't mean much when you're speeding along at 5000 MPH.
The biggest issue is that you can't get Wumpa Coins or use the Pit Stop without internet, which defeats the purpose of the Switch's portability.
It also doesn't have the save corruption issue, at all.
I basically recommend the Switch version if you don't mind not unlocking shit when you're on your commute or whatever, and you don't use the D Pad.

I have physical and it's the same. Seems to mainly be the Switch version that got longer load times.

That's only what switchlets tell themselves in order to stomach their full minute long loading times.
Loading times are not ideal on any platform, that much is true, but on switch they are absolutely horrific rather than just annoying.

My load times on PS4 Pro digital is like 6-10 seconds

Why is N. Tropy so bitter?

I have both versions that matter and I actually kinda prefer the Pro Controller's D-Pad to the DS4's, at least for this particular game. Having the pad not be separated into four buttons helps my finger slide along it quickly and painlessly, which in turn makes shit like instant U-Turns and air brakes easier to do. Honestly though I'd pick an Xbone controller if I could, PC port fucking when?

Do different classes of characters run out of reserve faster or something? I have assloads of it after just boosting a few times with N. Trance, but with Ripper Roo it's like I have to turbo boost like 20 times just to keep USF for a few seconds. Sorry for the brainlet question.

That shit felt prevalent in the original too, but it's just placebo though. The real issue is that handling characters turn too sharply and can't chain powerslides. You're almost never getting the final boost because you need to avoid the walls.

Is there any real use for Handling characters after you git gud at the game? I had to use Roo for Oxide Station's Tropy time since he was the only character I could get through the latter half with while keeping USF, but I heard you can make those really sharp turns and shit with speed characters using air brakes or something.

You're probably not used to the turning radius of a different class, and if you've played enough that you don't watch the signs to turbo you're probably hitting Good's instead of Perfect's to compensate for the difference in turning radius.

short answer is no
long answer would require an explanation of how reserves work
it's easier to have reserves decay on handling characters depending on the track because they're so slow and turn so sharply it can be very hard to build reserves on straightaways, but on shit like Thunderstruck, Oxide Station and Cortex Castle handling characters can actively build reserves at ALL times WHILE in USF which is fucking nuts
as says you can use U-Turns to do sharp turns with speed characters and all that but any time spent U-Turning and adjusting trajectory is time you aren't using to build reserves, which is perfectly fine and works great on tracks like HAS because there's still plenty of room on those long paths for speed characters to powerslide on but much worse on shit like the end of Oxide Station because you have practically no room to powerslide so you have to partially rely on hang time and boost pads which is unreliable at best

So how much do I need to play if I wanna unlock everything? Is this gonna take forever?

I still can't do this. Pretty much every other track that has USF I can loop laps now but that last bend on Oxide gets me every time, there just isn't enough room to position myself for a u-turn/air brake after the double box gap. But Cortex Castle? Got that locked down to a T.

Alright, so can anyone give me the skinny on how these things are gonna work? I know it's going to be start on wednesday, but to my knowledge no other info has been announced. Do you unlock the girls with the challenges? Are the challenges going to be a separate menu? Is there a specific amount I should be saving? I have roughly 15k after buying the game the other day and going through 101% adventure mode and some online racing. I hope that would be enough since I've seen individual skins and packaged deals going for relatively cheap prices.

How are you turning so fast at the Brio part? That doesn't look like regular air braking.

Some things (such as Tawna) are unlocked with nitro, which are gained through completing challenges. Everything else (such as the trophy girls) is just added to the pit stop and can be bought with coins. Anything you don't unlock with nitro will be added to the pit stop at a later date and can be bought with coins.

Yes, they're just online events, not DLC packs.

The Trophy Girls are not unlocked by Nitro challenges. They'll be added to the Pit Stop as soon as the Prix starts. Tawna on the other hand, is GP exclusive, and will be unobtainable for a short time after the GP ends, and then will be added to the Pit Stop.
The challenges are a separate menu. By Activision's wording, it's been assumed the challenges can be done in offline play and online play, as long as you have a network connection. I'm pretty sure 15k is more than enough money for 4 characters.

well blue fire always puts you at max speed, but not every track has it. So certain classes are better on stages depending on if a super turbo pads, otherwise anyone is viable

Stats matter a lot. Characters with bad handling have a real hard time maintaining speed from drift boosts due to constantly having to correct your path so you don't collide with a wall, while high speed characters are the opposite in that respect while suffering from potential difficulty in nailing hairpin bends. I'm not advanced enough to go into much more detail, but despite the importance of boosting, stats are far from arbitrary.

ok so i just went out and bought the game. load times on switch are 35 seconds. i counted. not ideal but its not a trainwreck. and if youre playing time trial or retry the same level, it loads in like 4 seconds. digital foundry found the game resolution to be 460p in handheld, but it looks great somehow. really clean.
never played the original games, and i'm having a blast. drifting perfectly feels much better than mario kart; tthere's more to it. and hitting every corner with perfect drift and oversteer and shit feels great. really nice game.

Try to get a good boost at the start and get in front during the pyramid climb. Once you're out just hit the shortcuts and he shouldn't catch up provided your powerslide skills are good enough.

Gin Labs you'll have an easier time if you learn how to abuse the super turbo pad for an easy USF that will put you ahead of Oxide's ghost. 16 seconds in this webm just go over the turbo pad without jumping/turboing until you get to the tunnel, that will put you ~5 seconds ahead of Oxide or so.

It is, however depending on the track and with USF I'd argue you're free to take a couple more wider turns if it means keeping reserves up for the entire map. When I first started playing the remake I was trying to get as close to the walls as I could in the original just to come to a complete stop. With how efficient air braking and u-turning are in the remake mastering those two are far more important for getting fast laps now if you ask me. Taking my best lap on Cortex Castle for example on the remake has a completely different playstyle to my original time.

I will try Cortex Castle as Cortex and grind them corners, then. I normally play as him but I did a lot of the Time Trials as Tiny because most of the tracks don't have sharp turns. I spent like 90 minutes on Papu's Pyramid fighting Oxide in absolute despair until I barely scraped by with N.Gin, and another hour in Blizzard Bluff where Oxide was shitting on me even though I was keeping sacred fire for the entire fucking race. I literally couldn't unlock N.Tropy on Oxide Station without relying on the skips, because I couldn't get laps faster than 1:10.

God I bet the trophy girls are going to be bundled with fucking useless crap I don't want, similar to how N Trance is but this time it'll probably be stickers and at 5000+ coins each or some shit.

Fence shortcut however takes a massive steaming dump over him and isn't even as hard as it is in the remake. I have tons of trouble with the bridge gap on Blizzard Bluff, Its always super close which makes it even more frustrating
I figured out the sewer shorcut, you just need to substain the SF from the earlier turbos and hit that one halfpipe perpendicular with no angles. Also dont jump off or fuck with the other halfpipes, they get in your way and always makes things harder

It's literally a scripted jump pad that only activates if you drive into it from the correct angle, and it works on hang time so boosting into it means you'll be too far forward before reaching peak height. Kinda lazy design.

-you can make quick tight turns using airbreaks and bunny hops
-if you can get real used to it you can make tight turns with any character type including speed

Best used with SF or USF, and hop off a ramp andytime you can sincy you will still get the hangtime boost which is important for maining your reserves since they go down when youre hanging out in the air

To learn sliding and how to maintain reserves
Good track for beginners but a high skill ceiling so can easily be stomped by people who know what they are doing
>Roo's Tubes
Use this for basic jump boosts and more difficult corners, its basically coco park so if you can do that you are fine
>Tiny Arena (Optional)
This is a bit unique but can help learn how to manage many small bumps and when to optimize proper jumps over just sliding over them
Now you feel pretty confident with how the controls work and how reserves work. Next step is
>Papu's Pyramid
This will help with cornering on the first part as its very narrow and many turns. The other part of this track is learn how to approach shortcuts. There is the obvious one, and then the one before the final turn by jumping over bypassing that whole turn. I can't describe it well but yeah
So Now we go onto USF and maintaining it.
Tiny Temple is a great beginners track for it. Has a shortcut, wide enough areas and once you know it, you should be able to maintain USF after you get it as the first lap is all about reserves.
Now you got three options here.
One is
>Turbo Track
Basically just learn to sustain USF, there is more advanced stuff to learn like u-turning but that will come with other options
Second is
>Electron Avenue
Has USF you should be able to maintain but the goal is to learn u-turning, one mid air one and one of the ground on the two sharpest turns on the tracks. Many posts have said how to do it, its jump, let go of accel, press down and the direction you want to go while braking. make sure to stop braking before landing, End goal for this is maintain USF after u-turns thus doing full race with USF
Third is
>Hot Air Skyway
This has the sharpest u-turn and can be done with USF, the goal is to keep USF to this point and make the uturn with it and hopefully maintain USF for as long as possible afterwards.

I dont like stats in racing games like these, they really add nothing but making some characters clearly worse/better. Characters should be cosmetic only.

USF makes speed irrelevant though so it comes down to hwo to you handle the character you have and the track
USF and maintaining it on tracks that have is a bug indicator on who are noobs and who are actually good
Take Tiny Temple for example, if you are competent you should be able to maintain USF after you get at the end of lap 1 for the rest of the race. It is a great track to actually test how good people are.

Dingo Canyon's never really been a fun map but it did take a hit in the remake in terms of playability. Dragon Mines is the worst map easily.

But it is
USF is the best marker of skill as if you take two people of equal skill on say crash cove, without any USF, any speed character will be beat the other if they aren't speed
Unlike on USF tracks where i Accel characters or balance doesn't matter just how you control and maintain reserves while having USF as speed becomes meh
The best tracks to practice USF are Tiny Temple and Electron Avenue
Tiny Temple is no sharp turns while Electron Avenue has two u-turn needed to maintain USF safely
learn those two tracks then take what you learn and adapt it to other tracks. you will also find that you are better on non USF tracks as a result

Yeah. Dingo Canyone is boring as shit because of how narrow it is and completely devoid of shortcuts, but Dragon Mines is easily the least fun map in the whole game. Which is a shame considering how pretty they made it
