I think they made the character customization smart in this game. They turned Corpo, Nomad, and Street Kid into actual background lifepaths that make your identity and start, and turned Solo, Netrunners, and Techies into classes and professions. If you think about it, it makes sense, what stops a Corpo from being a Solo who works for the suits, or a Corpo Netrunning hacker? What's stopping a Nomad from being a Techie trash finder who builds robots from spare parts?? I think Mike Pondsmith knew this in his influence to the game, and this will most likely be the case in his upcoming new Cyberpunk RED tabletop game when he releases it this August.

Corpo and Nomad makes sense as a character background instead of a shitty determinate class.

I can honestly say I have zero confidence in this game to be good. I think itll be pretty to look at, and good for a playthrough or two, but it seems pretty obvious to me that CDPR tasted big time success for the first time with W3 and want to go bigger. I expect an open world on the level of the witcher, a basic as fuck skill tree of ubisoft proportions to not intimidate normies, and superfluous dialogue choices that all essentially lead to the same ends. It just really feels like they're pulling a Bethesda in that every game has gotten successively more simplified to grow their audience, which makes sense from a business perspective. I'm a defender of capitalism, but in capitalism companies must grow, and CDPR cant grow without making a game that will sell more than W3, which means bad things for anyone holding out hope for an in depth cyberpunk rpg experience. At this point I expect scifi GTA with rpg-lite elements probably slightly simpler or comparable to mass effect 3. I hope I'm wrong, I just dont see how it would be in their best interests to make something that isn't extremely normie friendly. Even W3 didnt have good customization, which was excusable because geralt was a fairly established character prior to W3, but in this one it will be a letdown because you're theoretically playing a blank slate within its universe, or at least that's what the original idea is, when realistically given the material we've seen so far, they have a very concrete idea of who and what Vi is and why and what Vi is going to do. This being why it's not referred to as an RPG by them anymore, you aren't role playing because theres only one role to play. Plus the keanu stuff left a bad taste in my mouth, not because I dont like him per se but because it just seems like an unnecessary inclusion that will inevitably detract from immersion. Call me a discord tranny if you want I've just learned to be skeptical and pessimistic of big name RPG companies after what Bethesda has done.

See I would disagree about the classes thing, when I'm playing a class it's easier to role play because I have a set of rules my character has to follow. If I want to roll a knight i choose the knight class, with all the limitations that implies. Playing skyrim being able to do whatever whenever ruined it for me, if my character can do everything he wants but NPCs cant, it ruins immersion because your character is inherently special and better than everyone else in the game. Oblivion I think is an example of a perfect class building system, everything else in the game notwithstanding it gave you choices and limits, lets you be creative, and when you enter the world you're special to a point but ultimately not the God Chosen Hero of the universe, you're whatever you wanted to be, if you were a Knight your character would have to be creative to succeed in the thieves guild, if you were a Mage youd have to make some sacrifices to your magic to wear armor. To me that's what role playing is, choosing a role, and playing it. If you can do anything and everything you're not playing a role, you're God

Well third person in TES/Fallout doesn't add much and it was janky as fuck in VTMB and DX HR/MD. The game is designed to be played in first person, so while switching out to look at your waifu is nice, it's a small feature that's unnecessary and eats into dev time.

As long as there's a model viewer and you see your guy in cutscenes, I really don't see what the issue is. Deus Ex didn't have third person and it's the gold standard for FPS/RPGs.

Corporate, Media, etc would be too radically different gameplay wise and cop would require you to change what I assume would be the main storyline here. Just treat it like a pre-made game that the GM made for you, hopefully an expansion pack gives you a campaign for Nomad or Cop because their gameplay isn't too different from Solo.

IIRC Deus Ex had no intentions to have joinable factions aside from originally having UNATCO and Paul. They cut that out because it required more work to be done, the only other cut content were a few levels and a few endings, there were only supposed to be two factions and that's about it. Cyberpunk 2020 has a shitload of factions, too many to count. Probably like 20 not sure how the fuck you're supposed to make paths for each one, otherwise people would complain "b-but I wanted to join the Juliards". Not that I am saying those people are dumbasses, I'd be pretty pissed at not being able to join my favourite factions, I'd rather have no faction than half the factions.

There were property I bought in GTAV that I never entered into and just bought them because I was offered to, or properties I entered simply to see what was inside once and NEVER entered in there again because I was busy PLAYING THE GAME. And even then, the majority of the game took place in that one mansion you were given by one of the characters the majority of the game no matter how much fucking property you bought. At least this time around apartments are unlockable and are earned according to the progression of the story or the gangs/corps you support, and work your way into getting them. It shows that CDPR wants you to make very concise investments in how you upgrade your character from buying/applying weapon augments, what cybernetics you want to purchase, deciding to unload the majority of your income on illegal mods, and make discernible heavy decisions. If this was just GTA 2.0 they would have to make due with dumping millions of credits so you can be a faggy real-estater making the rest of this stuff they want to focus on an absolute dumpster fire.

Honestly, I don't really care for roleplaying video games. I play pathfinder and D&D anyways and those do it for me better than any video game can. There's never been a good RPG vidya that was actually good as an RPG. They're all shit because every play through will have the same dialogue lines everytime. In reality it doesn't matter if its voiced or not, it would be the same amount of lines, or worse is that you would get more lines that lead to the same NPC response. If youre wanting a roleplaying game go get some friends and go play D&D. I'm okay with Cyberpunk just being a shooter with RPG elements.

Now trust me, if in the deep future we have some advanced AI and VR that is able to make a game where I can actively roleplay to my hearts content, that would be awesome. But to expect any game to really live up to that RPG style right now is stupid and pointless.
