Sure as fuck ain’t a sport.
And the idea of thousands of people thinking they’re going to reach that final stage is what’s killing society

I just like seeing a massive degenerate like Sonicfox make the FGC seethe

good for the economy

I don't think of it at all

Not video games.

Nothing wrong with competition

Gran Turismo Sport championships are unironically more exciting than current Formula 1 and LeMans 24h, though that isn't really a high bar.

It's kinda cool. If curling and croquet are sports I don't see why video games can't be either. Granted I don't really watch any esports because I don't like any of the games that are played, but the idea of it is neat to me.

FGC is cool, don't care about anything else.

The worst thing to happen to gaming followed by game streaming.

Fucking stupid.

I watch league’s korean league because it’s on at a good time for me
It’s actually pretty fun seeing the sytlistic differences between pro and regular play and I do get somewhat invested in cheering for my favourite teams
I’d say participants aren’t athletes but esport sure as hell is a sport

i agree.

This.

>What is Yea Forums's opinion on e-"sports?"

cancer ruining gaming. back in my day we still had competitive play, but there was no celebrity to it. you played with your bros and shit talked or you played anonymously online with some edgy name and camped faggots all day long for the fun of pissing off anonymous strangers for the fun of it. there was no celebrity fame to be had and no one fucking wanted it. the golden age of online RTS, FPS, and MMOs died with the rise in popularity of youtube for a reason. now both genres are absolute cancer and/or dying and replaced with more cancerous genres like moba, battle royale, etc. back in my day I would go 50-0 and not feel the need to tell a soul. now every faggot is 'trying to make a name for themselves' on twitch or some gay shit. esports players are basically attening whores on par with real snapchat whores and webcam girls. its pathetic to 'want to be famous' for playing video games. absolute cancer. the viewers and "fans" are even worse than the players. literally cuckolds, like faggots who watch NFL games and know all of some rando giga nigger's life history and "stats" and wear sports jerseys and high five other faggots they see 'reppin' their team. like THIS guy: absolute cuckold faggot living vicariously via his friend simulator twitch streams:

>I watch league’s korean league because it’s on at a good time for me
>It’s actually pretty fun seeing the sytlistic differences between pro and regular play and I do get somewhat invested in cheering for my favourite teams

hella gay.

The best bit is he's objectively a pretty cool dude.

>highest tournament winnings of any fighting game player ever and he's like 20
>teaches people his tech all the time
>Is friendly to everyone and actually humble but knows how to play up rivalries for the entertainment of the fgc (see: Go1, who he is actually friends with and is currently teaching Mk11 to).
>donated winnings to loser of injustice tournament to help with his dad's cancer treatments
>makes people with anime avatars rage by just saying two words

Attached: sf.png (732x736, 146K)

There is no such thing as a legit esport player with the exception of fighting games. FPS games are especially terrible with this.

e-sports are pretty much games devoid of fun things because they are too good, too bad, too random or just different from the meta...it destroyed entire genres like rts and team-based fps because of it
But at this point there is nothing you can do, just expect that they keep distance from what you play or that at least that the devs don't really care about them like what happens with smash bros.

go on, get it over with and just go suck his dick, absolute faggot. yikes. lol

Yup, pretty much. This micro-celebrity shit needs to die.

People today can't just play a video game without feeling the need to inform the world of what they have done.

FGC and SC BW are all I watch.

This post sums up how anyone should feel about e-sharts

that's cute you can pack a 15k person stadium once a year for your world championship. meanwhile a bunch of amateurs can pack multiple 100k person stadiums every weekend for 14 weeks straight

Hopefully everyone over 21 feels that way already. Same problem with "youtubers" and "influencers". It all stems from social media nonsense.

this is now a stadium thread

It annoys me that e-sports are forced with developer money instead of being naturally occurring, how the fuck are card games even close to competitive or skill based enough to be e-sports?
just blizzard forcing it.

>like faggots who watch NFL games
I actually find people who watch sports to be better people than the underaged faggots throwing money to streamers just so they say their name on stream.

>It all stems from social media nonsense.

good point. i also have absolutely no interest in having a social media "presence". i dont have a facebook, i dont have a twitter, i dont have a red.dit. i dont have none of that shit. i shitpost anonymously here on Yea Forums because i get to do it anonymously.

No real issues with it, but I'm definitely in the "why watch someone else play a game when I can play it myself" group.

>I actually find people who watch sports to be better people than the underaged faggots throwing money to streamers just so they say their name on stream.

sure, some sportsball fans are alright because they might actually use it inspirationally to be a healthier, more active person or as a family event(watching the big game). whereas there is absolutely nothing healthy about playing video games all day long for attention and no healthy family plays video games all day together(or should, if they do)

should be in the olympics desu

How are you supposed to suck their dick and give them money for nothing that way?

Attached: 1560691467730.jpg (1440x1080, 295K)

it was only a matter of time before competitive computer games become ultra corporatized, I guess if they're not run in a corrupt way that's a good thing i suppose

if there were no esports you'd be begging for esports

I could care less but holy fuck, that stage is a bit excessive for just a few people sitting around a desk playing LoL isn’t it?

chess a sport?
cheerleading a sport?
cup stacking a sport?
spelling bee a sport?
curling a sport?
race car driving a sport?

These, fighting games are alright, MOBAs and all that other shit puts me to sleep in record time

Attached: 1554936966396.jpg (641x509, 69K)

Not run in a corrupt way? Just look at Overwatch. Blizzard made bank and all these dumb team owners will never see profits. Probably convinced them it would be a good investment because 40 MILLION PLAYERS! yea right.

That shit died so fast.

only a matter of time? what retard universe do you live in? its all already hella corporatized and gay. wtf planet are you on faggot lmao.

Dota 2 is the only fun I've ever had watching pro level gaming. The game is incredibly deep, as much as Yea Forums likes to screech the opposite. It's insane that even with 117 heroes, 90%+ of them are competitively viable every patch, with the incredibly majority of them being so uniquely designed that teams rely on players being a 'specialist' of the hero in order to hit its max potential (the major ones being difficult to play heroes like Meepo, Invoker, Techies, Visage, etc. etc.)

just saying shit this gay helps prove esports is gay cancerous shit lmao. you lack self awareness.

What the hell happened to gamers? Back in the 90s people who loved to game were rarely also fans of sports. Now all of a sudden people want to turn gaming into that thing that we all don't like?

What kind of fucked up person is watching this? Just go pick up a video game and play. How can you be so unbelievably lazy that you can't even perform the laziest of activities.

Attached: 1560667770759.jpg (650x525, 104K)

>Now all of a sudden people want to turn gaming into that thing that we all don't like?

people didnt ask for it. corporations asked for it because they saw the rise of youtube and twitch as a chance to cash in on the click revenue and use 'fan videos' as another source of 'free' marketing, that they're now ironically dumping millions into instead.

>What kind of fucked up person is watching this? Just go pick up a video game and play.

the same faggot zoomer kids who literally grew up watching youtube and nothing else. braindead morons.

which esport has the best lore and why is it melee?

Attached: melee.png (1045x283, 530K)

I'm so glad I have no idea what this means or who these people are.

Attached: 1561773526093.jpg (473x587, 57K)

Nah, that'd be Dota 2.

Attached: 1544845161744.jpg (1252x6940, 853K)

what is i about melee that attracts chads?

>pro players are the same as twitch streamers
retards on Yea Forums really shouldn't talk about things they know nothing about

it's total cringe

Getting to see people play games really well is cool. But esports is hella overrated as far as business is concerned.

There is so little longevity due to how easily games cycle out you cant really invest into it. But people put so much money in it like 50years from now people will still play the same game.

>Getting to see people play games really well is cool
Just stop making it about money and popularity and I could potentially agree. I wouldn't watch it, but I'd find it a more acceptable activity.

Attached: probe_sc2-profile_image-3f184f48dcdde742-300x300.png (300x300, 33K)

The page is gone now, but in a recent interview PPD (Dota 2 player, won TI5 and is one of the game's greatest captains) openly mocked big corporations trying to jump into esports, saying they're wasting their money and that hosting these huge events in stadiums is pathetic since they almost never fill up (outside of League Worlds and The International) and that 95% of the viewers are all watching from online.

Attached: 1536989529850.jpg (1280x966, 169K)

you are fucking faggot who thinks he's edgy esports athletes are better at their games than you'll ever be bitch

Is English your first language? Your sentence makes no sense.

Attached: 1561272043523.gif (379x387, 133K)

lost my virginity to a girl I met at one of these events so they're pretty great

Ence csgo is the only sports team I actively follow
It's pretty great I must say.

Gay as shit and ruined FPS games.

It's alright, but they shouldn't of put sport in the name as it gives off the wrong idea and would probably would of made the reputation of the term better from the get go

It would be equally as stupid, but at least the name alone might not have made me cringe.

I've always liked competitive gaming. Competition lies at the very core of vidya, so it's only natural for there to spring up larger competitive scenes as the hobby itself grew to such a scale. It's fun to watch and participate in.
I just hate esports culture. This overly clean, hyper marketed aesthetic just feels so fake to me. Like the only reason there are competitions is to sell products, not for the games themselves.

>you need excellent physical and mental abilities in addition to being good at teamwork and communication to succeed
Just because the measure of success isn't related to having the best muscle structure/density doensn't mean its not a sport.

>Competition lies at the very core of vidya
I don't agree. You can have non-competitive gaming. It is usually way more fun that way.

Being competitive is something a subset of gamers are into and not a defining feature of gaming.

Attached: 1560648355890.jpg (1280x1280, 155K)

Ruined video games for a bit, that's about it.

This.

Attached: Boutta F L E X.gif (195x200, 1.57M)

>esports
it made online games not fun anymore.

I'd argue being competitive is something people kind of fall into in an effort to find some way to boost their ego and self-confidence where they previously had none,or maybe competitive video games is just their chosen venue. Some people choose sports, others choose video games. I mean there's also competition in singing, acting, etc. Everyone is just looking to make themselves feel good, and what easier and more blatant way than to find some way to say "I'm better than this person over here."? I'm also not a competitive person, so what do I know, just seems it to me.

the actual people watching aren't holier than thou about it and demand respect from normal people.

Corporations handling and marketing the events want to make it like NFL football.

Attached: DotaMajor-28lY5jbsWeVtL4TRZZQUjw.webm (500x280, 2.95M)

If shooting guns is a sport so it's playing videogames.

they're fucking gay as fuck.
it's the reason why modern gaming sucks

Could be. Which would imply that competition is inherently negative.

Attached: 1560658071268.jpg (682x247, 157K)

Considering the only reason why "official" big league televised sports exists to begin with is to sell you shit, of course they want to make it like the NFL. It's all in the name of fucking adverts, except with video games the game being played is also a product itself. I don't understand why anyone takes this shit seriously.

Because human brain structure allows for following sports events?

well for games like dota 2, there is a huge money on the line in the international, which demands attention. The game also has grass roots support from way back in wc3 days, and the hype isn't just a thinly veiled astro turfed advertising campaign for the game company's products.

Overwatch and the recently cancelled HOTS esports is an example of fake esports.

The thuggery has taken a few hits due to corpo money but fighting games for the most part still have a lot of grassroots support thankfully

Attached: 1424899054628.gif (500x350, 475K)

It's definitely a real sport, but unfortunately it's become more more promotional than competitive. Imagine if Adidas had to come out with soccer 2 in order to keep people interested.

I think it's interesting watching top-level players play and e-sports is the best way to do that. Sometimes the games are exciting, sometimes they're predictable and boring, but I suppose that's true for traditional sports, too.

Attached: fnatic massage.jpg (822x420, 93K)

I'm okay with e-"sports" but why not "g"-sports? or "v"-sports?

HRT-sports

it's a dead meme
