Well I'm not sure what to think of her now, I always notice the "less" important characters in the games but this one completely escaped me.

I've spent so much time with touhou that I can't even fap to the touhou chars anymore, they're just like my family members now.

EoSD cast just has that perfect eclectic appeal. The SDM could carry it's own series (and basically has) with infinite potential for shenanigans.

I beat every Touhou game on normal though I could only beat LoLK on Pointdevice. Once I tried going to hard, though, it became just grueling and I eventually gave up. I just lack the hand-eye coordination to play bullet hell at a decent difficulty.

Part of it was that it was the new beginning when Touhou became popular so those characters were the main thing that people worked with for years. Artists would shuffle and rearrange characters in different configurations, eking every possibility out of that little cast. It's because it was the new beginning. If it had come out as a later game, no-one would care about the non-characters like Daiyousei and Koakuma, kind of like how minor characters like Medicine Melancholy and the Aki sisters have fallen by the wayside.

That would be fine if it wasn't for the highlights.

When Touhou got its big surge of popularity in Japan was around 2005 at the earliest right? IN and PoFV were already out at that point.

PCB and IN experienced the same phenomenon of all of their characters getting disproportionate representation in fan works. Also, I think the early adopters influenced everyone who came after them for the next few years and it snowballed.
