Impossible. The west has never understood the two key ingredients to good vidya: gameplay and waifus.

EA and Activision need to disappear or there is no hope.

Games tend to have a better chance at being good if the developers actually give an inkling of a fuck of wanting to make them.

Look no further than Battlefield One of all things. This is a game DICE actually WANTED TO MAKE. As in, they wanted to make a world war one game with substantial breadth and detail that shows many aspects of the conflict. The problem early on: EA execs didn't like the idea, and used cherry picked focus groups to try and prove it. Regardless, DICE was able to convince them, and managed to keep executive meddling to a minimum. Then it went on to become one of the most lucrative entries in the series to date.

After that? Battlefield World War 2 with mocked up female CYBORGS being touted as something within even a country mile of historical accuracy while telling everyone else who could state otherwise, including those who wanted to talk about the actual women who fought in World War 2, to more or less fuck off in all of their tumblrina ways. So to the surprise of everyone, with all of EA's marketing and executive meddling on top of it, somehow managed to outdo themselves. To the sound of the crater made from their plummeting stocks and sub-sub-sub-par sales. It's almost as if you try to "get woke" for the sake of searching for the ever elusive "wider audience", you "go broke" in the process. Of course this probably just means DICE gets eventually shit-canned and EA at its core suffers no real consequences as a result, not even pausing to scratch their heads in wonderment as to how that situation unfolded.

Not possible. The way the industry is going what with loot box/gambling investigations, unfinished games being shoved out the door, and soon not owning any games you buy due to companies pushing heavily for "streaming games", it's on a very steep spiral downwards and soon enough the masses will realize the gaming industry's unhealthy habits they've been fueling and jump ship as well.

Despite all the attention they've been getting, ideogames are on their way out, and all we'll have left once all is said and done is remnants of the past
