I think the wish is sort of like an unintentional reverberation, like water ripples that push the edge out, adding negative desire/emotion to their accidental bubble of fuck up. I think it's thoroughly established they are dumb as hell. Equivalent to a small group of Elizabethan era people getting their hands on nuclear weapons.
