its uterus shit, don't buy it, don't even pirate it. Combat is beyond retarded when u miss at 95% but enemies hits you through full cover,2 walls and a smoke.

Kek

no

it's much better with wotc

It's been said a million times and replied with "git gud" enough that no one thinks it's really a problem anymore, but the turn limit unironically turns it from a great game to a mediocre one. The missions are also balanced around it too so you can't just mod it out and expect the game to get better. It would be a great mechanic on specific missions but over the entire game it's just a chore.

Yes.
Get the War of the Chosen expansion too.

MODS

Yes. The OST got even better with the Tactical Legacy Update.

Yes, but even the devs recognized this in that WoTC contains so many ways to delay or even get rid of timers (on either the tactical or strategic layer) it becomes a non-issue mid game onward.

Haven't actually played the expansion, I'm just telling OP what I know about the original. Although I might grab the expansion now, it's cool that they did that.

Locking incredibly needed optimization and bugfixes behind WoTC is really scummy, I hate that they did that. The DLC itself is fantastic, but I feel like it's tainted a bit because of it. You essentially are forced to buy DLC to make the game not be a buggy, poorly running mess.

Base game is ok, wotc makes is goty.

The after mission poster maker is so much fucking fun, I swear I spend more time in that then making decent tactical decisions in combat.

Attached: 1502860286015.jpg (720x1080, 246K)

Yeah but how do you balance that shit if you were firaxis.

When you have to for example destroy one of those avatar facilities you don't have any timer.
What's stopping you from turtling, spamming overwatch and not taking any risks.

Even if you decided that's boring and play differently, it would be the optimal way to play.

I agree some timers are too tight and they are almost everywhere, but it's a delicate thing to balance.

Attached: 1534796307276.jpg (671x720, 103K)

I don't know, make enemies more aggressive? Actually design the gameplay loop well instead of not at all? You say that like the first game and the originals needed time limits to be strategic. It's not hard to balance at all.

Yeah i can't hit enemy 3times in a row with 95% and he insta kill me with 10% chance and 1% for crit. Great game design based on skill ;^)

TAKE THAT BACK!

But in order to try and balance turtle-overwatch they added meld on timers to incentivize aggressive play.
Tbh, I still love the game play loop of xcom2 more than anything in EW desu, even with the timers. I do double them tho.

I'm watching beags mod set progress and it seems, if he finishes it which I doubt he will, he has come up with a really unique and challenging loop on his own.

i haven't played it yet what do you guys mean by timers?

You have to finish some missions before x turns or you lose your dudes. You can lose the game after a certain time if you don't finish missions that extend the doomsday timer. Both timers are trivial to complete and can be extended/temoved using mods. Some anons just like to shitpost too much.

YOU ARE THE GAYEST POSTER SINCE GAY CAME INTO GAY TOWN

fpbp

It's excellent, OP

turn limit on most missions
doomsday meter filling up as time passes during the campaign (you can lower it by completing certain mission types or by clearing key story missions)

>trivial to complete, despite the fact that in the same sentence he admits they're enough of a problem that there are mods to extend them
seething

Attached: 1472353758080.png (1165x1075, 728K)

Some Missions have a round limit. Go past the round limit and the mission is considered a failure. Note that it doesn't mean you squad gets wiped out the moment you do (unless its a rescue mission), but failing a mission will set you back which can hurt a lot depending in which stage of the game you are in.

>mod exist thay turns all chatacter models into baras
>must mean the game had a problem not catering to barafags
Just because something exists doesn't mean it should. Case in point, (you)

in WotC you can keep doomsday timer infinitely at bay with the "reduce avatar progress" covert op.
I once kept it long enough until I grinded enough skill points to have all of my A-Team with all their skill trees fully unlocked

Depends entirely whether or not you want an ability based Tactics game as opposed to positioning and preamble risk-taking. If you like cultivating dudes to be absolute killing machines because they got an ability that lets them delete 3 aliens in one turn for free or can never stop attacking so long as they kill, then dive balls deep into it. However, if you wanted a more grounded and tactical approach to it, with the difference between a recruit and a veteran being that they can shoot better and take more punishment, then fucking no stay the fuck away from it because it doesn't work like that in XCOM 2.
But here's a major problem with that system though: There is a point in the game in which if you happen to lose your A-Team (as you likely will unless you savescum) then you might as well delete your save because you're never crawling back to a winnable position because none of the your low level troops can use the abilities that the game is balanced around. It's not a matter of "I'm just going to gear up the shit out of my rookies and let Darwin choose the best". You can't do shit against, say the big daddy fuckers that bleed acid if your rookies can't penetrate armor or guarantee crit him, for example.
Also DLCs are overpriced to shit even after years and some of it is absolutely disgustingly hideous like the Anarchy one.
If you don't want that, get Xenonauts instead.

Attached: adios.jpg (500x500, 147K)

the game still gets updates/patches? was waiting for support to die before buying so I could just download mods and don't have to worry about steam stupid forced updates

Just set the game to never update.

kek i bought the complete edition just for under 15$.

90 aim is pretty high for everybody except snipers, slap on scope and you're good to go.
Still you'd also want everybody in WAR suits, to blow up everything you can't hit

I'm pretty sure you can't useless I been living under a rock

When I became proficient at the game I realized on timer missions I usually had 2 or 3 turns to spare and I didn't feel nearly as rushed. In this case, "git gud" is a legitimate response.

This

still send the chills up my spine every time i finish playing Long War... it's been like 6 years... damn.

Jesus I don't remember half of this shit. I dropped it short before the WotC hit so I'll just take your word for it. I still don't like this ability based system, though.

Sorry for your loss.
It's your fault for doing something you were most likely not prepared for.

Sometimes the shit they do feels very unfair, but once you get to mid-late game you are so loaded with bs that it's very hard to lose and you realize, shitting on them just like they did with you feels great.

Remember to go full on Jihad on her! Use Dragunova's claymore(ALWAYS UPGRADE TO SHRAPNEL!!! ALWAYS!!!) and then detonate it with a Grenadier who has volatile mix acid bombs and she LEGIT dies in one turn! Hell, if she has Bewildered or Shell-Shocked she's pretty much D.O.A.
EZ!

Yeah, he should probably also do the scans for Shen's left-overs since it gives free op guns if he sucks so much.

>I'll just try and melee this enemy that is known to explode
Got what he deserved.

Came out with the final dlc last fall, I've think they're pretty much done updating and now working on 3

I enjoyed it enough to finish it. Haven't really replayed it as opposed to the "first" one.

>it's that mission where you have to rescue V.I.P on Legendary mission and these guys spot you
>bring one down to 2 hp
>don't want to atract the lost on me
>decide to finish him off with a pistol expecting it to not trigger him
>EXPLODES
>LOST NIGGERS SWARM IMMEDIATELY
>surround the vip and the other purifier
>manage to get the VIP out there
>the lost nigs gangbang the purifier chan and make her go boom
MOAR OF 'EM SHOW UP AND SPAWN LITERALLY RIGHT NEXT TO THE BUILDING THAT THE VIP IS HIDING BEHIND.
THAT'S XCOM, BABY!

explosions are randomized (and that's a good thing)

I thought the crits guarantee that they will blow up.

will probably pick it up in sale, so far only brought Disgaea 5.

How can they fix melee for xcom 3.

Attached: 1561158964864.jpg (1920x1080, 438K)

No it's not good. 75% of the time you miss when you have 95% accuracy. The chance to hit makes absolutely no sense at all. You can be point blank with 99% accuracy and still miss at least half the time.

It could and should be a good game but it's not. Massive amounts of RNG.

probably some sort of rock-paper-scissors mechanic

The lost are sexually attracted to gunfire and explosions. The best you can hope for it to have units that can cheese concealment allowing a pair of snipers to abuse squad sight.

>Combat based around dice rolls
>complaining about rng
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

What are you even talking about.

Attached: 1549415663275.png (488x320, 24K)

pls tell how to not get assraped in the early game before you can develop good weapons and tech??

I think he meant the risk reward aspect of melee. I think it's fine, it's good for cleaning up. I wouldn't run in and expect to solo a pod with just melee.

That's why i always bring Dragunova on these types of missions(Hell, i bring her on almost every mission with Mox).
She can basically give a rimjob to a Muton and they won't even notice her! Shit's so broken.

Their concealment with a side of concealment is p broken. However the true big dick of damage is the sniper. Serial with endgame equipment can destroy pods with ease.

>thought Skirmisher were the shittiest class
>Start playing Long War 2 with WOTC
>Templars quite literally can't attack anything without triggering 300 pods
inb4
>long war
The main game is easy as fuck, even on Legendary due to the insane power creep late game. I needed something to challenge me, but templars have been turned to shit as a side effect unfortunately.

Rush magnet weapons

The point of the templar is to attack then break line of sight forcing the enemy to move into a killbox you make with your concealed units, or sending one in with reaper and balancing the effect with rend gaining power in tandem with reaper robbing it after you weaken a pod with your other units.

>Bring templar to a chosen stronghold because there would be no problem with pods there
>The motherfucker can't melee the purple reviving thingy
>Fire pistol for like 2-3 dmg

Attached: 1536327268857.jpg (473x473, 27K)

The fucking Skirmishers can fire up to 5 times on one goddamn turn tho!

Under optimal conditions a skirmisher can wipe out a pod on his own, but that would require a mix of
>reflex activating
>whiplash being available
>Using wrath to get to the to the middle of the pod and then getting a free hit with retribution on most units
>Having the grapple be available to get out of there once you slice everyone up
>hair trigger activating
>using battle lord at the end of the turn
>judgement activating on 1 or more units
It rarely happens, but if most of these happen then for just one turn they turn into the best unit of the game.

The powercreep is also out of control in 2, both for the aliens and for XCOM. It effectively swapped out the dominant strategy from overwatch crawling to nuking pods off the map with AoE 100%-chance damage or killing them from full health with shotgun crits the fucking instant they walk out of the fog. Partly because it's so easy, and partly because letting the aliens get an action off is so incredibly dangerous. For most combat encounters the aliens are walking pinatas with only their different damage breakpoints to differentiate them.

Overwatch crawling may have been wildly overpowered in EU/EW, but at least there were other viable ways of playing it. With 2, it's either alphastrike everything that moves or suffer.

>t. managed to miss every single sale so far

I played over 9000 hours of Enemy Unknown but this one feels so weird. Why?

>but if most of these happen then for just one turn they turn into the best unit of the game
Not so fast.

I can't think of anything coming even close to a sharpshooter with darklance. It's literally game breaking.

Attached: 1554529905802.png (995x330, 571K)

What the fuck were they thinking with this gun? Arashi and Disruptor were nowhere near as broken.

sounds good then

Welp, just bought the XCOM 2 Collection. Hope I won't regret it.

Anyhow, should I get any mods for a first playthrough?

The important difference between rookies and veterans is the action economy perks give, not base stats.

Attached: mister explosion reads the paper.jpg (200x200, 6K)

I disagree, you don't have to be aggressive to wipe out the pods. In fact trying to be aggressive can get you killed more easily. A lot of xcom 2 is remembering that a lot of interactions are intended to make you panic and force kills which make you go full tilt. Retreating from a pod and luring them into a killbox or triggering a pod one unit and using your remaining units to ow on them as they rush for cover and attempt to break line of sight; they won't have cover bonuses and you get a better chance of flanking and critting.

Fix the pod system punishing you uncovering fog of war. Almost all of nuCOMS problems can be traced back to that stupid fucking pod system.

Melee is a bad fit for these games anyways. It's a really awkward fit thematically, but it can't be balanced as a consistent offensive option for both large firefights and cleaning up stragglers. Its too binary.

>immune to explosions

Evac all.

Reinstalling this on my new rig, what are some essential mods that objectively improve the game?

Rifle Sharpshooters suck dick in basically every other scenario, so they probably wanted to give them something gamebreaking so there'd finally be a point to using them.

Check out the Gotcha Again mod. The game has flanking indicators, and the mod expands it for all kinds of situations.

Cosmetic mods like the tacticool armors

I want it but after it's been out this long, I was hoping for a larger price drop for the sale. Especially since there are expansions.

The weaknesses are randomized dingus

It's one of the funnest games to watch other people play

It's fun to watch people who aren't beagle play it at the least, jesus that guy couldn't make a quick decision if his life depended on it. Sharpshooter? idk

I swear they even modelled the Skirmishers off the Jaffa, down to the lines they speak

There are girl frames for the bots?

Should I play with WotC on as my first playthrough or without it and then with it on? I heard WotC makes it easier but also that it introduces a lot of other mechanics.

yes

Why are Advent bitches so thicc? If you compare a Skirmisher's ass to any other human soldier you can clearly see they have bigger hips and more mass.

genemodded by ayy lmaos with taste
build to make you join the ayys

Play it with it on. WotC only makes the game easy in the endgame, when you kill all the chosen, but before that it's harder at times because of the chosen fucking with you. The endgame is already a cakewalk in vanilla anyways and the new mechanics are really fun and well integrated into the campaign to not feel overwhelming. If you're worried about the difficulty, play it on Legendary and "honest" man, aka no savescumming (don't do iron man because of bugs).

The Gods know what's up.

>if most of these happen then for just one turn they turn into the best unit of the game.
skirmishers are the worst and most useless of the hero classes. They shoot slightly better than your standard classes, meanwhile the reaper is a fucking invisible assassin that only needs 1 action to wipe out pods while providing perfect intel, and the templars are fucking jedi battle wizards. Also L O fucking L that the first enemy the game tells you do do the grapple attack on is a fucking purifier that explodes in your skirmishers face if you're stupid enough to actually do what the game suggests.

Calm down sperglord. A) he qualified the statement with the modifier if. Meaning it required very specific conditions. B) Reapers are at incredibly weak if you take away their claymores. Concealment is very useful but once it's broken your reaper is fucked. Unless you got very lucky and got tactical rigging early you only get 1 claymore and no utilities. The Templars you have to work to make useful you have to feed them kills to build focus and they get one chance to parry if breaking line of sight didn't protect them from enemy units next turn don't even get me started on how useless their auto-pistols are. Skirmishers aren't great but they're far from the worst.

Faction heroes are there to help take down the chosen by being a guaranteed way to deal them extra damage. Their good good for the first half of the game before you get units that are captain or above. Or have the training center to make your units more well rounded. After that they become one trick ponies that hold back a slot you could put a useful unit in.

Just bought the game, so I have a question.

From what you've said, hero classes are basically less PCs and more akin to special units. Do they not rank up "captain and above" and follow a leveling progression like the rest?

And to add to that, are their equipment (and appearance) set in stone or can I customize them as well?

While I agree that skirmishers are at least on par with templars (or better), reapers are broken. I would take just the perfect scouting on legendary over anything else every time outside the stronghold missions.

Reapers are only bad on beta strike when you deal with shit like this

Attached: 20181106224339_1.jpg (1920x1080, 531K)

They reach Colonel, they get a lot of options yeah. Unlike the other units they don't require the training center to use ability points options to teach them other skills in their ability tree. You can customize them but their outfits will just be variants of their existing outfits. Idk if mods can mitigate that.

They have a chance to get tactical rigging as an xcom skill(skill outside their usual tree) that will allow them to carry an additional or even just one utility item. The latter being the Reapers because they get one to two claymores.

The faction heroes are imo intended to be most useful while the chosen are in play. After which they become good mop up support units that are outshined by units at max rank with endgame gear like chosen weapons or alien ruler gear if you got that dlc too.

if you get into it and take your punches without raging every time you lose a soldier then yes.

Shame, since I find the ex-ADVENT lads very aesthetic.

Can normal lads be customized to mimic the look of the skirmishers?

You'd have to spool through the mods the dlc doesn't. There's a lot to chose from it's just making sure it works with wotc. Although some mods will still work despite not being written with wotc in mind. The biggest issue is unmaintained mods that haven't been kept up with updates.

From your answer, I'm guessing in vanilla it's a no right from the start.

someone got cucked by a skirmisher

Vanilla is ok, but there are so many QoL mods that make the game a lot better

Is a better advent any good? It seems like it just adds new enemies and I'm looking for mods to make the game harder, but not a complete overhaul like long war. Any suggestions?

I'm an achievementfag tho and I'm guessing mods do disable achievements @ Steam.

Only if played on iron man. Even if you're only playing normal. Iron man prevents you from the constant temptation to quicksave.

Not that I know of, I have 60% so far w/o issues.

Lke anons said, gotcha again and evac all are good qol mods
Then add any cosmetics you want
My personal favorites are the Sam Fisher voice packs (I use it for reapers) HECU voicepacks and the capnbubs accessory pack adds some good stuff

Im prety sure you can still get them whit mods on

Nope.

Ironman is the reason I'm on try 50 and 200 hrs and finally at end game with sufficient troops to complete the final op. I fucking earned that shit with a mountain of dead.

Just be honest, user.

I love ironman up to the point archons start spawning
>Graced

i hate it so much

Leave them alone to use blazing pinions. Or use flashbangs, people forget how useful they are. Berserkers will just run in circles and can't attack.

The game is honestly designed around ironman, the lategame difficulty is meant to give you some space to let you recover from your fuckups.
If you savescum and avoid disasters of course the game is going to be piss easy.

How often would you say you retreat? The consequences are shitty but don't be afraid to pull out of a mission early on. I've beaten iron man twice on hard and both times i probably retreated 10-20 times. Especially on the retaliation missions. They seem to be where I usually lose a guy to chosen, giant fudge guys, or when the warlock mind controls me and the civilians start fucking me up and landing crits.

Can you add your own text or are there only selectable ones?

You get to choose it yourself. Hence the Latin.

I SAVESCUM EVEN ON IRONMAN BY MOVING THE FILES AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME

I love this poster.

Gameplay is about the same as the first one user.

Seen you've repeated it in several posters and thought it was a 'standard' one.

Anyhow, lads, where are the

>SQUADS
posters?!

This is good advice, but some sometimes you can't just leave, like those assassination missions where the evac zone is at the end.
desu ironman makes you think pretty hard about taking those missions

Just enjoy unifying elements in design.

It's fucking excellent, my only issue is the whole feeling of "WE'RE THE RESISTANCE" shit. I want a new TftD

I had a huge amount of fun with it.

I judge you but admire the dedication.

dope

That is why i always bring a Reaper full mobility (always recruit 2) and scout ahead making sure i won't trigger 2 pods.

It's alright, but way too buggy, and since it's been out for so long now I no longer have any hope that the bug situation will improve. I liked the first one better, it didn't feel so gimmicky and the difficulty curve of the campaign was more even (and the game was less buggy, to boot). If you do play XCOM2, make sure you get the WotC expansion.

>More than 200h played
>Only found a single noticeable bug, might even be related to mods

XCOM 1 had more ridiculous jumps in difficulty between difficulty levels though. I remember feeling like I'd pretty much mastered the game on normal (can't remember what the actual difficulty level names were) then when I turned it up to hard I got my ass beat so mercilessly that I had to watch a bunch of videos online to figure out what I was doing wrong. Then after I beat it on hard I tried impossible but it felt SUPER reliant on getting good RNG or you'd get fucked and one bad mission was the end of the campaign.

That wasn't really the case as much in X2 I felt.

The original is better.

So which is it, buggy or not buggy?

Too bad it's slow as shit even with openxcom to fix its flaws. By slow I mean tedious.

Too bad you are a shitter zoomer with no taste.

i just played through the campaign with no mods and let me see what i can remember happening
>Shen's Last Gift story mission never appeared and I had to spawn it in with the console
>Alien Hunters story mission never appeared and I had to spawn it in with the console
>Berserker Queen appeared before doing the Alien Hunters story mission
>Killed all 3 rulers but didn't get the achievement for it
>Several instances of buildings burning down and leaving sections of the roof just floating in the sky with nothing supporting it
>At least 2 different instances of the game hanging at the end of a turn until i killed it
>1 hard crash
>Buggy animations fairly often, especially when activating a pod
>A handful of times activating a pod through a solid wall with no windows because my soldier momentarily clipped through the wall
>Once a terrain piece randomly disappeared while I was just panning the camera around, leaving my soldier suddenly standing out in the open
>Once I just targeted and shot an ADVENT turret through a solid wall, with no nearby doors or windows

And to top it off the line-of-sight system is just plain janky, particularly when multiple z-levels are involved. I didn't have any of these problems with the first game.

With the right mods and DLC, yes

If anything, reboot can get more tedious once there are a lot of enemies. The lost just slow things down to crawl.

Attached: BEHEAD THOSE WHO OPPOSE XCOM.png (1882x1059, 3.47M)

I dunno about that, I beat XCOM 1 on normal and then made the transition to hard without much trouble. I never made a serious attempt at the hardest difficulty, so I can't say how much of a jump that is. I suspect the reason you didn't hit a wall when moving up a difficulty level in XCOM2 is because you already went through that in the first game and most of what you learned there transferred to the sequel.

I'm not the only one who thought this was a dog's nose, right?

>High heel boots

Are those DLC or mods?

Attached: YOU BROUGHT ME PRESENTS.png (405x630, 216K)

Is this everything for XCOM 2?

Attached: xcom.jpg (690x667, 113K)

/thread

But really 2 was shit, 1 was better, and even that one was pretty rudimentary. They could be so much more. I think the issue is pandering to consoles.

Yep. One of the packs included contains the rest of the DLC.

Should I try this if I can't get into the first game?

I've been waiting for this to go down. Did they fix the memory issues?

Just bought it today myself, senpai.

they're genetically engineered to be THICC, natty humans literally cannot compete

I've had the first game in my library for a while now. I'm a fan for Fire Emblem but I never gotten around to playing Xcom. Would I like it?

>At least 2 different instances of the game hanging at the end of a turn until i killed it
This is the one I mentioned. Really annoying with ironman on but it only happened to me once or twice.
>Once I just targeted and shot an ADVENT turret through a solid wall, with no nearby doors or windows
This sort of clipping happens from time to time, yeah.

>A handful of times activating a pod through a solid wall with no windows because my soldier momentarily clipped through the wall
>Not using a reaper to scout and activating pods from screens away

>the line-of-sight system is just plain janky
It can be very weird I agree. Good thing with wotc we got this new sight preview or whatever it's called and you don't have to be guessing anymore.

It's been a while since I last played so I can't remember all you quoted or it never happened to me.

Nice Ironman run you have there. Be a shame if something happened to it.

Fire Emblem and XCOM are fairly different, so I could certainly see somebody liking one but not the other. But since you already know you like Fire Emblem then you should definitely try XCOM. Grab the Enemy Within expansion from the sale if you don't already have it, it adds a lot.

Literally a joke.

Also, what were they thinking with the Warlock audio mixing?

>WoTC finally on a decent discount
>whole pack on discount
neato, time to go from pirated version to full, do manual instaled mods still works with the steam one or it forces the steam mods folder?

Have to put them in a Mods folder in the Steam folder if they're ones you download and put in.

I hope this could have Xcom-style game.

i want to kiss, hug, love, marry, and make love to a viper! i want her to pull me close to her scaled busom using her powerful and agile tail! i want her to gently (yet often, firmly and rougly) dominate me as females of her species are larger and more powerful than the males, and MUCH stronger than human males! i want her to squeeze against me in such a way that my man-penis is forced into her snek-pussy! i want to cuddle with her in post-coital bliss as we look in each other's eyes and she playfully tickles me with her long flickering tongue! i want to spend every day of my life with her! i want to drink her milk directly from her alien monster tiddies!

if this post ends in a 3, then my wish will be granted within 48 hours- and so will the wishes of every other patrician yearning for a snekfu!

If you know where to put them they work.

the one in the workshop folder? alright I just download any trash from there to create it and then move them
just realized I have to download the whole game again, and that the long war saves are will be irrelevant with WoTC

Attached: 1557184071023.jpg (500x345, 92K)

No, there's still no nude snek mod
No lamia soldiers mod either

Make a Mods folder in the XComGame folder, which also has the CharacterPool, Config, DLC, and other folders.

Can i get men in black suits MIB style and miku clones?

oh so just like with the pirate copy instead of the one used by the workshop on other games? that's easier, I really hate that even the workshop has auto updates

this worth getting guys? I beat xcom2 about a year ago and enjoyed it

It changes a lot about the game, so I say yes. Get the other expansions too for maximum goodness.

Yes.

ded
you know Stargate was unpopular when even Red Dwarf gets a mod & voice pack but SG-1 doesnt
