I defend it because out of the 3 i played ds2 the most by far.
It has the most bosses of any ds games, best ng+ (new weapons, armour, boss mechanics. boss enounters), it has awesome DLC's, it has more weapons in general, more viable builds, best hub area

It's not like I made this thread to use other people's opinions as my own, I'm not that retarded to listen to everything you guys say here (because it's wrong most of the time). I asked because I just want to hear opinions of other people

dark souls 2 feels worse to play than 1 immediately when you boot it up, swinging your weapon feels incredibly floaty and the dodging is wonky
it doesn't help that they put that godawful cyclops enemy in the starting area, and the first couple of boss fights are fucking awful, the pursuer in particular is notorious for the shit hitboxes

i think ds2 is the best in the series. but i played all the games recently and am not blinded by nostalgia so what do i know

i understand that. but to me dark souls is best when exploring environments, not when fighting bosses

I've played the games since Demon's Souls US release and they all have their own quirks and strengths.
DS2 is certainly a worthy Souls game with a lot of variety
It has a really rough start but as long as you're not shit, it's no problem and it probably has the most initial freedom of any of the games save DeS. I find myself coming back to it the most.

SotFS nerfed some places and turned other areas into as user said, an amateur romhack.
Iron Keep is a good example, you take five steps into the front door and like half the enemies instantly aggro you along with a NPC invasion.

I still ended up buying the fucking thing later on simply because it was cheaper to buy SOTFS than it was to buy the individual DLCs for the original version of DaS2. But I'm still fucking mad I had to trudge through all that arrange mode bullshit. I have plenty of complaints about DaS2's level design, but instead of fixing the flaws they somehow made it even worse with SOTFS.
And it just feels so amatuersh. Like they decided to just randomly spawn enemies in new places with no rhyme or reason. Don't even get me started on Heide's Tower of Flame.

SotFS does have some new content albeit content I don't enjoy myself. But more than that I think it has a 64-bit support and some other fixed issues, iirc the original DS2 release had completely fucked up controller support.

Majula is the hands-down worst hub in the series. It's flat, bland, and uninteresting. There's nothing going on with it.

And also going back to the DeS-style system of needing to warp back to your hub for upgrades/leveling/etc was objectively shit. DaS1's system of allowing you to do most of your housekeeping at any bonfire was great because it saved time and kept the pace going. In DaS2 and 3 you're constantly interrupting what you're doing and waiting through an unnecessary extra 2 loading screens for zero benefit whatsoever.

Just remember its "LOL DAS2" and walk into rooms slowly to handle different enemy mobs.

At least DaS3 finally got this aspect right and had matchmaking be a function of SL and weapon upgrade level. Shame it completely shat the bed on multiplayer in a bunch of other ways that made it the worst in the series though. But hey, at least in that game I didn't need to tediously grind in the arena for CREOs.

DaS1's PVP is still my all-around favorite. DaS2's would've been my favorite if it weren't ruined by problems like Soul Memory and the lack of full eye orbs, forcing everyone to grind in the arenas or just cheatengine them in, which I'm pretty certain is what everyone ended up doing anyway

Don't even bother with DaS3's PVP. DaS3 was designed more or less with bloodborne combat mechancs shoehorned into the framework of a souls game, and it just doesn't work and results in the PVE gameplay being R1 spamming and mashing the roll button because dodging is basically unlimited and zero-consequence. Now that isn't so bad on its own in PVE, except the same mechanics carry over to PVP, and so all invasions end up being tedious as fuck because opponents can just endlessly dodge with impunity. roll roll roll, R1, R1, R1. It's all so tiresome, and actually winning a fight in DaS3 usually requires your opponent to fuck up severely or take so long that it's like pulling teeth and just not fun.

Shit bosses, broken staggering system that makes it extremely easy to stun lock bosses if you go strength, horrible enemy placement in areas that looks like they're copied and pasted, forgettable characters, shitty level design, shit lore and a retarded combat stance system that lets you pretty much break the game from beginning to end
