I kind of hope the Sword and Shield situation sparks interest in other monster-collecting games and companies capitalize on it. The Medabots RPG on GBA is still one of my favorite games and there's nothing else quite like it.

This series was where my love for Mecha came from. The amount of unlocalized games is criminal, but I'd be happy with any big new game that's got a similar aesthetic and focus on robot friend building and fighting

Do you care to explain how? Because my experience with the game wasn't the best.
Even after 30 hours, I still have no idea how the combat system works properly, I just tend to spam Missiles and Submachinegun with Metabee, and sometimes use some support skills and it works.
The non-combat stuff is alright though (story, world, dialogue, etc), not really anything special but I had a fun time.

Everything I tell you is separated by about a decade of fuzzy memories, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. But the main fun here isn't nessarily the battle themselves, but how much you can optimize using combinations of various parts and medals. As an example I remember off the top of my head, there was a point where you encounter a team with a really strong gravity attack that forms the basis of their offense. You could just tank the hit, but you could also look into your cache of medals, figure out which one has an absorb gravity metaforce skill, and stick that into a bot with an armor part that will protect your other two and gain HP for doing it. Or another moment I remember is getting into a water area and getting dominated by Aquatic medabots in terms of speed, but then you find a good torpedo part and start blowing them up. That feels really satisfying, or at least it did to me.
As a weird comparison that may be helpful or may not be, I recently played Xenoblade Chronicles 2. You can get through most of that game with just autoattacking, some basic skills, and a healer, but the real fun part is coming up with absurd synergies and strategies that take advantage of all the combat system itself, and completely shutting down an opponent's ability to do something to you.
