Of all the things that a console absolutely needs messaging capabilities is the last thing in this day and age. There are far more important utilities that consoles should have that don't.

Games rated E are usually used as a babysitter by parents that don't want to bother watching their kids and they don't have to worry about them teaching the kids bad words or anything. M rated games legally aren't allowed to be sold to minors without a parent's permission and contain risque things like boobs and the fuck word.

If a game console is going to tout online features, than a simple messaging system isn't asking for much at all. Let alone having a non-roundabout voice chat feature. Besides if I want to simply say, GG to someone or even ask about something they did, how do I go about that if I can't even ascertain an alternate platform to reach them on?

right now the only console company who behaves almost decently (if it wasn't for the persecution of fangames, roms and people filming their games on youtube) I will never buy a console again but if would spend money on one maybe it would be Nintendo, old Sony is death and Microsoft going as far as saying "we are not a free speech platform"

Going for a rating below T used to open up your market by quite a bit, not so much anymore with 9 year old kids buying M rated games digitally, but when everyone had to walk into gamestop to buy a game it mattered quite a bit. Now it depends on the title and the market, Nintendo is particular about getting a CERO B in japan for some games and getting an E10 for NA in others.

CERO has always been like that, it's cultural. Nintendo wanted a CERO B but CERO guidelines are both strict about enforcing sexual content and vague about what actually consitutes sexual content. They could have just settled for the C rating but that wasn't an option so Sakurai got stuck in a shittysituation.

So what you are saying is that they offer Terranigma for legal purchase on the WiiU and the Swtich? Does that mean US consumers can purchase it without having to buy a pre-owned UK copy and a European SNES?

I ask because the game never got a USA release because the publisher thought the Bible-thumpers would go mass burning rampage over it so the only way you could get it is either through pirated emulation or by paying for a UK copy as well as a European SNES unless the European cartridges worked with US systems (I cannot remember).

Also for those saying all piracy is bad like I once did when I was really young and naive, sometimes the only way to get something legally is buying pre-owned which like piracy means developers and publishers no additional money for it. If there are no new copies and the original developers and publishers no longer back it or get anything from it, you might as well pirate.

piracy to me is one of those issues I don't see as solidly "black and white". I couldn't give a less of a shit if someone pirates some shitty EA game, but I can't help but feel bad when someone pirates a niche game where their purchase would actually means something, though if they weren't going to buy it if anyway then I don't even know.

Honestly though, the taking down of ROM sites is just an effort to take down entry-level pirates, it doesn't take a genius to just track down a no intro fullset and be done with it. Only problem is how you lose hard to find CD/DVD games on systems like the Saturn.

To be fair, anything non Nintendo is on the site owner. They could have easily just removed the Nintendo games but instead scrapped everything.
