I do that for games I actually don't want to have my playtime on for too high
For instance Borderlands 2 and Starbound.
Both of which fucked with my save data and I had to reset. And I didn't want to make it seem like those two were my highest played games so I turned off my internet and played them to completion and then told Randy Pitchford to fuck off.

The client still tracks the time played a better method is to buy copy and crack the files then refund it but only do this every so often so they don't deny refunds

I just don't like having two games that I am not really too fond of on my top two list of highest played games, I'd rather have good games that I adore much more than two games that artificially forced me to reset because of a bug. Call it autism but some people go and visit my profile and see Borderlands 2 on highest played game and assume I am some retard Redditor or something.
