It helps to understand if you ignore the points. points are effectively infinite, they don't matter, all that matters it the point cap. you raise your point cap by buying games. This is literally a contest to see who can throw the most money at at screen. It counted the money you spent since the last event so if you bought a game since the lunar new year event you got that counted and that's why some people started out with a lot.

None of this matters because valve has now rigged the game so it isn't the dogs shit stomping everyone else. This isn't the first time they have rigged their summer contests. Just use your daily points to boost your team to get your free game lotto ticket and ignore everything else.
