The Fallout 3 combat shotgun ejects from 20 cm behind the magazine, which means the cartridge needs to get pushed backwards before being ejected.
That's retarded and doesn't make a lot of sense.
There are firearm designs that don't chamber directly from the magazine, but none of them were very successfull because they are needlessly complicated and prone to jamming
One good example for a similarily complicated design would be the mars automatic pistol

FO3 was so bad. I remember being awed by the beginning and reaching Megaton for the first time and the scope of what it looked like it was going to be the game, only to play for hours walking through the same sewer with the same enemies using the same shotgun for hours and fighting off glitches, bugs and crashes, to reach a story conclusion that made no sense and somehow, had fun for awhile.

It's a shit game, but it was fun somehow. Playing FO4 was a kick in the balls tho. Everything is shittier.

I mean if the bolt just travels ridiculously far, all the way up to the magazine, picks up a shell, fires it, pulls the shell back to the breech and ejects it, it's not too crazy, the only problem is the lack of space for the bolt behind the breech needed for ejection. If the breech were on top of the "grip" it would all be perfectly functional probably.

Still a retarded design but it isn't like the shells are magically travelling through the gun.

Is that like a confirmed thing or just a guess? Because my assumption is that it feeds through the top of the drum like any other normal drum magazine, and the grip is just a solid grip with no tube magazine inside. The gun is clearly based off the PPSh-41 which has a top-feeding drum magazine.
