I bet those 66% feel like idiots now
I bet those 66% feel like idiots now
Imagine being such a contrarian you pretend to hate Pokemon
>I just bought 5 packs of Pokémon cards
>Wally, 12
This is hilarious for some reason
It definitely did fade though. Back in the day it was huge, now it's just another popular vidya series
>ask mostly women
>get mostly dumbshit answers
like clockwork
>just another popular vidya series
Pokemon is the biggest franchise not just in vidya, but in all of media. It didn't fade at all.
HAHAHAHA Tyler, 12 BTFO. How's that DigowhO? going for you faggot?
Classic Tyler
>pokemon isn't fading, but I wish it was. I like The Powerpuff Girls better
Based Lyndsay
>Pokemon is the biggest franchise not just in vidya, but in all of media
That's an insane thing to say. The movie barely broke even, nobody watches the anime except for the most extreme weebs. Pokemon is about as popular as Zelda now. Zoomers wouldn't know it but back in the day it was actually HUGE. Like Star Wars HUGE, not Zelda huge
>only girls hating on it
>WAAAAAAAAAAAH WHY AREN'T THE BOYS PAYING ATTENTION TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
pre-teen girls angry at vidya. This is a cursed image, showing us the future gender and sexual-identity crisis we're still dealing with to this day
Lyndsey is such a fucking bitch
Fuck that Stacy
it was like Facebook level huge, even though that doesn't make sense. Like, changing shit around the world in really ridiculous ways just by virtue of it existing so fucking hard everywhere.
Even our biggest vidya trends like Fortnite and shit can't compare, that's fucking casual mode compared to what Pokemon was at.
Zelda wishes it were anywhere near Pokemon's popularity
based Shelby
Based Tiffany

Wut? How the fuck is winnie the pooh that high?
en.m.wikipedia.org
Completely insane
Why is Hello Kitty franchise sohigh
>Lyndsay
Literally "stop liking what I don't like!"
Same reason as Pokemon; the merchandise
i bet literally all of those answers were made up
Pokemon makes the vast majority of its money through merch, the movies, games and shows are just vehicles for that and while not massively popular I bet you'd have a hard time finding someone who hasn't seen one of them.
Pokemon today is bigger than Star Wars
>expecting japanese people to not lie about audits
There's a containment board for this trash. Also being into pokemon once you're over 18 is some real pitiful shit. Bye.
Literally none of this reads even remotely how kids that age speak.
>7 of the top 13 highest grossing franchises are nip created
what do they know that our jews dont?
>Pokemon is not fading but I wish it was
Wife material right there
>pokemon is the highest grossing vidya based franchise
>graphics and animations still haven't evolved past the gamecube era
/mlp/ is a containment board. Talking about it anywhere else gets you banned.
/vp/ isn't a containment board. Pokemon discussion is still allowed on other boards, it just has a board because of how big of a franchise it is.
To be fair if Star Wars and Disney weren't counted separately there, we all know who would be winning by a landslide.
>even 12 year old kids can tell pokemon is a waste of time
>30 year old autists on Yea Forums cant
>12
>wife material
You're playing a dangerous game here, user.
Fuck you, I like Winnie the Pooh
I never thought they made so much fucking money from those stickers, plushies and just stuff with her face printed on, I thought money was on the TV, movies and games
Those 12 year old kids ARE 30 year old autists now, this is from decades ago
I guarantee you that some of them are on Yea Forums right now
I-in the m-making. I-I swear to God.
GF knows pokemon addicts are going to buy the game no matter what. Might as well spend the money on other things like mobile games.
Nooooooo don't anger our God Emperor Chinese man
Shelby giving the truth.
Reminder that anyone that actually gives a shit about the current state of Pokemon is an autistic man/womanchild.
Hey, I'm not dissing anything, I just never thought it was that big. Maybe it's because I'm not american but while I watched the show and saw some toys, I never got the feeling it was this behemoth of a franchise.
it's all about the merch baby, you'll hear that a lot if you listen behind the scenes of big franchises, especially those aimed at younger audiences.
A lot of game franchises that did relatively OK for themselves have found the boot because their associated franchise didn't manage to sell their associated toys
Tyler is now probably a CEO or some shit and grew out of vidya while manchildren NEETs still play games made for little kids
I'll let you in on an amazing tip. Cute shit sells because women love cute shit and love giving it to their kids and girlfriends.
>number 3
This angers the Chinaman
Pokemon is an indie franchise
Prase understandu
We cannotu puto mor monie into makingu better gemu
I actually knew a few kids that did. They grew up to be huge assholes. Every single one of them.
That's how much money it's made in its lifetime, not how much it has lying arou
It did fade. Significantly. For like 15 years was completely irrelevant and forgotten after Gold and Silver, then got big again with Pokemon Go for a while and is now faded again. That Detective Pikachu movie even flopped.
They were absolutely right about the cards though
Tiffany nailed it spot-on though.
Pokemon was only fading for a brief time after Gold & Silver. Ruby and Sapphire revived it.
>More money than Mickey mouse
>Can't afford to put all pokemon into the newest game's code
Preaseu understandu
Making gemu is hardo
quality and craftsmanship?
EA and Acti or any other western Darksider Birdman company certainly don't prioritize those things
Wtf I love Hello Kitty now
bai mai gemu firushi gaijin
Fucking Wally, where did he get the cash for 5 packs I never had any money when I was that age.
No they didn't. By the time those came out, kids who started playing Red and Blue, watching the cartoon, and playing the card game in elementary school were in high school and grew out of it.
b-but you don't understand! Pokemon is TOO BIG and needs to be culled back!!1!
>pokemon has faded since its hayday!
>in a post PokeGo world
>where endless normies stopped what they were doing to catch a pidgy on the side walk
the delusions of people are fun.
Sorry but Masuda confirmed otherwise
>The main problem with the game wasn't the technical side, but rather the general opinion surrounding the franchise in the early 2000s. "After Gold and Silver came out, it was a huge hit around the world, but shortly after everyone was saying, 'That’s it. The Pokémon fad is over! It’s dead!'," Masuda says. The games were meant to be the starting line for the next few Pokémon games. "It was a very stressful project, for sure," Masuda says.
>"At the time, the atmosphere and general thinking was that the Pokémon fad was over and there was huge pressure to prove people wrong," Masuda says. Toy stores that used to be filled with Pokémon toys were clearing out their stock, and when visiting America, Masuda says he noticed that all the Pokémon merchandise, including the unofficial toys featured at mall kiosks, were beginning to disappear. "The next time I visited it was all Star Wars. Everyone was saying it was on a downtrend, the fad’s over and I really felt that pressure to make something amazing," Masuda says.
that bowtie pikachu looks fucking adorable though
He mowed lawns.
It had faded into absolute obscurity. Pokemon Go was a flash in the pan fad based in nostalgia and died out almost completely after 2 months. 99% of people who played it had not touched Pokemon anything since the original GBA. And it has already gone back to before when it was forgotten, people moved on again.
>Pokemon Go was a flash in the pan fad based in nostalgia and died out almost completely after 2 months
>still played by millions and makes millions of dollars a day
>To be fair if Star Wars and Disney weren't counted separately there, we all know who would be winning by a landslide.
It's the Mickey Mouse franchise not Disney, Disney isn't a franchise
>its a fad! they never played again!
wew lad, it is like you have never left the house let alone socialized with normies.
>masuda failed all that time ago and is still in charge
>almost became a phenomenon again with XY but petered out
>random 3rd party company with laughably little experience and skills created Pokemon Go which totally eclipsed the main Masuda directed games
>pokemon still petering out
When will Masuda be fucking removed from GF? He let the phenomenon die TWICE under his control and obviously is too incompetent to make a true next gen pokemon game that can ignite the spark needed. Instead we're getting cut creatures because resources are apparently scarce, and N64 graphics/animation because too many pogeymons too hard to make de game durrrrr XDD
fuck I mad. A literal drooling retarded monkey could do a better job directing the games right now
The 66% were right, kids prefer pails of water everyone knows that
Kids are easily influenced, just think about how the question is formulated. It is basically implying that it is fading. If they got asked, "Is Pokémon getting more popular" the stupid little shits would say "yeah I guess all my friends watch it".
>masuda failed all that time ago
He didn't though, Ruby and Sapphire succeed in proving people wrong
>It had faded into absolute obscurity.
>Pokemon Go was a flash in the pan fad
more like it was crippled with game ruining bugs that took a laughably long time to resolve and people got sick of waiting for the game to actually fucking work
but trust in american or what? fucking idiot.
RS was obscure and a meme compared to the phenomenon that RBY brought and GS carried over. It wasn't ever "cool" to play RS like it was playing RBY
>RS was obscure
Fucking how, nigger?
The fad HAS absolutely paled in comparison to back then. It's just it was a really big fad then so being smaller than it doesn't say much.
>RS was obscure
>Best selling game on the GBA
The fad faded, but Pokemon itself didn't. It's still as popular as ever.
>pokemon has been around way too long
it came to America in 1998 and this is obviously from like 2000, that's barely 2 years.
>american people
Yeah, it's still popular as hell, which speaks to how big that fad was.
The "KAAANTTOOOO" meme is a thing for a reason.
>sold half what RB sold
>has never really climbed out of its own shadow since
>GF still insists on making resource wasting sequels that sell like fucking shit, turn people off of the franchise and confuse and/or intimidate newcomers to the franchise
Masuda 100% is needed to be removed from GF if Pokemon ever wants to grow more than the shadow its currently stuck in. And every year they wait the harder it will be to fix this franchise
It's almost always about the merch.
Mario is one of the few ones on that list that isn't there mainly due to merch sales, alongside Marvel, and the Mangas (although the gap for the latter three between their main property and merch is smaller)
user they're literal children
You nigger
nintendo.co.jp
USUM is over 8 million now, making it the highest selling "third version"
What your graph shows isn't a decline. It's stablizing. The older games have sold more because they've been out longer.
>sell like fucking shit
Nigger, the last gen sold around 25 million copies.
OH NONONONONO
LYNDSAY BTFO
Well yeah, he did say they were females, didn't he.
Just like any old mobileshit
She's in her early 30s now
It's literally all about the merch. Almost all of those franchises on that big list get there from merchandising. Alternatively, they get there from gambling; Evangelion is at 10bill and got one bill from everything from merchandising to a race track and the show itself, and then nine billion from just fucking pachinko machines.
No me gusta...
>SM: 16.5 million
>USUM: 8.37 million
>LGPE: 10.63 million
Altogether, Gen 7 has sold over 35 million units
More importantly, imagine being a grown ass man playing pokemon in 2019. Yikes.
Funny thing being that the people the meme applies to probably don't even know Gen 1's region name is Kanto.
Ed, Edd n' Eddy was always better.
Pokemon GO in its three years of existing has made over 5% of the TOTAL amount the entire franchise as made. You're doing a terrible job at coping.
>compared to the 46 million from gen 1
oooooooo, big number for the biggest franchise in all of fucking media
I know if I was in charge I would be tripping over myself to sell 25 million instead of 46 million!
Let me say this again. Pokemon is the biggest franchise IN THE FUCKING WORLD my guys.
you're acting like averaging 15 million (million) sales for each new gen is bad or something
not defending masuda, but he prints money whether you like it or not.
i get it, he and his ragtag team at creatures won the lottery with RB, but them not improving over ~20 years is a different problem.
to nintendo, masuda is a money machine, they couldnt give less of a shit about quality at this point. as long as it makes money.
Pokemon isn't driven by games anymore, it makes most of its money from merchandise, and the merchandise and games rely on the anime to advertise them
it is bad, if you expect results. Certainly the guy in charge for decades should be growing the franchise instead of helming it as it "barely" floats by with declining numbers and constant backlash from fans.
Certainly that same guy wouldn't ruin his chance to make all the money in the world not once but fucking twice with the mishandling of Pokemon Go. And certainly that same guy wouldn't be in charge today if he did do those things- oh.. wait he still is. And all he does is lower expectations, shit on (sorry, "troll") fans, remove features and now creatures from the games and then whine PREASE UNDERSTANDU
>When will Masuda be fucking removed from GF?
Only when he retires because he's a founder.
>Certainly the guy in charge for decades should be growing the franchise instead of helming it as it "barely" floats by with declining numbers and constant backlash from fans
He is growing the franchise. It makes more money than ever thanks to the growing amount of merchandise being released.
Baseado e rivotrilado.
>if two different things were counted together, they'd win.
Thanks, genius.
i wasnt disagreeing with you, just stating that masuda is here to stay.
believe me, id LOVE for a different dev to have a hand at pokemon, HAL comes to mind, personally.
masuda is a shithead, but there really isnt anything to be done unless something short of a miracle happens, like creatures/GF giving up majority share for whatever reason to nintendo or elsewhere
HAHAHAHAHA
>Pokemon, Hello Kitty or Dragon Ball
>Fucking quality and craftmanship
Man, what the hell is wrong with you?
It's just good luck to start a snow ball, and then good marketing, and more good luck to not fall behind. That's the recipe for success of every single thing ever.
None of the three companies WANTS a bigger share.
The whole reason for the joint ownership and The Pokemon Company's existence is that Pokemon is a franchise is too big for any company to handle alone.
They have it set up just the way they like it; Game Freak develops the mainline games. Creatures Inc makes the 3D Pokemon models, handles the TCG, and develops some spin-off games. Nintendo publishes the games. And everything else (like marketing and the anime) is handled by The Pokemon Company.
None of the companies involved is big enough to handle Pokemon on their own.
if you think it's "just happened" and then "snowballed hard" then you have no business sense. People made hard decisions and they paid off. IDK shit about Hello Kitty but yes, Dragon Ball and Pokemon were special when they came out and the fact they're both still going strong despite all the problems with both is a testament to the craftsmanship initially put into them
>it's just a fluke bro
cope
>8~12 years old childs in the 90 talks like adults compared to today
Damn.
this
I work at an elementary school and was shocked when I saw groups of kids bringing in and trading/battling with their pokemon cards. Definitely not as many as it was when I was a kid during the initial boom but I was pretty happy to see it still happening to some degree.
That made me think it's made-up bullshit actually. Why would a 11 year old kid talk about "like all fads do" as if he lived long enough to see fads come up and die. It just seems fake, and I'm a 28 boomer, no kids talked like that back then.
I wonder if he got a Ralts
Pokemon popularized the monster catching genre
Dragon Ball popularized the formula that a lot of shonens still use to this day
Both were revolutionary and influential
Been working at schools and Pokémon is still big with the younger kids, even before Go was a thing
BASED wally
imagine working hard enough and being well adjusted enough to live an adult life, but then in your free time you gave a single fuck what someone thought of your hobbies.
When i was a kid I had winnie plushie that was almost 2 times my height. I loved it.
