What would you have done to make this a success and not a miserable flop?

It was very successful.

Make it a mobile game that's similar to Conquest Of Champions

1.) Never launch it on the WiiU
2.) launch it on the Switch, make the online not shit.
3.) aggressive marketing on E-sports and local tournaments
100% one of the reasons why it flopped was because it launched on a dying console. The FGC fags wont touch it because its far too detached from any 2D or 3D fighting game template. The system is unique but fighting game players are far too stringent with what they play so the only way to have a significant pull would be money and prizes. The pokefags dont really play fighting games, but they will but any and all pokemon videogames. It doesnt matter if they drop the game after a week, the pro players will pick up the slack due to the Esports pull.

It didn't flop.

It wasn't a miserable flop, but it probably would have been more successful if the pokemon had cute accessories.

if that was true more people would swap to playing NRS games from SF etc. but they don't.

Injustice 2 had a tournament with a $180,000 grand prize and nobody but the usual NRS gang bothered.

It died quick though. A measure of a fighting game's success is in its scene.

I would had suck your moms dick.

The FGC are willing to give new IPs a chance if it has enough money. Too many times NRS promises something only to piss off the majority of the FGC. Also one of the factors that inhibit the growth of NRS games is that the Japs dont play it. Its only ever popular among normalfags in the West and Slavic countries

Less zoners and better balance. It’s very clear that an earlier build of the game was shown to Nintendo/Gamefreak, and they hated it because it played more like Tekken/more traditional fighting games. They told Harada that certain characters such as legendaries had to be overpowered, and that more of the Pokémon fan base would enjoy shooting lasers than actually fighting. It makes sense, Pokemon fans are the most casual of all time except for extreme competitive players, but Pokémon only caters to masses.

>Aggressive marketing on esports
No. This is what killed SFV and MVCI. Esports before a good game. Make a good fighting game that a lot of people like to play competitively first, and THEN make a league. Doing it the other way around is worse.

It tried to be an arena fighter and a 2D fighter at the same time, and didn't do either of them very well.

Whilst i did enjoy it, i think if it had just been a straight up Pokemon Tekken, it could have really taken off. Shame there will never be a second game to rectify it.

instead of putting two pokemon in twice, how about putting two DIFFERENT pokemon in? not like there's want for choice

A Hitmonlee/Hitmonchamp combo would've been a nice character.

Also, more non-traditional fighting characters would've been nice. Chandelure was a cool idea. Beedrill would work too

I think there will be a sequel.

Pokken was a good game though, but it wont reach the FGC because they only play games made by Capcom or Tekken

When you have your first big esports tournament to expose the game to the largest crowd of your fighting game niche market for the first time at large, DON'T mute the fucking chat.

Pokemon Tekken, so customization options for the fighting pokemon. Give a fucking palette select at least. Fuck TPC. The trainer customization is barely anything at all.

I'm really upset my Hitmonboys got shafted

If there is, it would be nice to get Harada as the director and get an actual fighting game.

What everyone was expecting them to do because it would have halved development time, but for some inexplicable reason they didn't:

>Clone all Tekken characters movesets and assign Pokémon as reskins, with alternate Pokémon being alternate costumes
>Actually use FIGHTING type Pokémon
>No gay pointless avatar fashion items
>Actually put the fucking DLC into the original release holy shit there was no reason at all not to do this

That sounds absolutely terrible and would have made for the shittiest game possible.

I pray you never make a video game involving a franchise I love. Those are unequivocally the worst ideas I've ever heard.

What's strange is how much of the game would only make sense to the fighting game enthusiasts it also apppears to be too casual for.

this and also chosing a baetter cast Lupunny alone could have made a lot more of people give it a try, Magmortar and Elective would have been coll and Blastoise should have ni the cast from the start, Hawlucja instead of a second Pikachu Deoxis instead of a second Mewtwo

Retarded samefag with no balls.

Maybe you'll make a game when you leave your job at Walmart at 42.

But probably not.

>hey let's charge full price for a game that's just a reskin of an already released fighting game
>in a series with over 18 types, let's have all the pokemon involved be one type
>let's make the game less customizable. all avatars for online play should look identical
>hey also i have no idea how DLC works
Yeah, you're a real game-design guru, chum.

>Maybe you'll make a game when you leave your job at Walmart at 42.
Projecting much?

It was good, but very poorly balanced with zoners and big beams. And the final boss was PLAYABLE ONLINE. It was obvious they shifted focus away from FG enthusiasts to favor your average Pokémon fan: a fat beckbeard who wants to see cute furry monsters fire beams at eachother.

>Lopunny
You have enough porn already

Also I don’t care what you say. Pikachu Libre is so cool. And that’s the bottom line. BECAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO.

>It was good, but very poorly balanced with zoners and big beams. And the final boss was PLAYABLE ONLINE
The playable version of SM2 is way different from the actual final boss SM2.

He still had broken setups and a literal unblockable.

better pokemon variety: not just shillmons, more bizarre picks (onix, ferrothorn, tentacruel)
at least one of every type represented
remove the shitty naruto arena fighter phase
fix the absolute dogshit lobby system

Remove the anime trainers, the voice acting and change all the hud and menús to make it less weeb

Make field phase a bit more involved and HALVE THE STUPID ASS HITSTOP FOR PHASE SHIFTS that alone would make things enjoyable to watch and play.

Personally I wish the visuals weren't so shit. The textures on Charizard make him look like a fucking cheeto. Also, more of a focus on actual fighting types.

I'll never understand you fighting type-focused nuts. If you wanted a fighting game featuring a bunch of martial artists, why not play one of the many fighting games that do that already? Why do you insist that a fighting game based on Pokemon of all franchises do the exact same thing?

fighting type pokemon are cool. i don't actually think about it harder than that bro

blastoise's model and animation is just sad for such a good dude.

Why are his arms so long

How about not launching it on a console that doesn't have strong fighting game presence and how about not requiring two fucking consoles for local play for starters? Literally what the fuck were they thinking?

Other Pokemon are cool too and Pokken already has several of the best fighting types.

Tekken is the most popular FG series in the entire world, it's even popular among people who don't really belong in FGC and just enjoy casual mashan. Making a reskin of that game with Pokemon IP on a proper platform would have been an infinitely better solution.

1) Put it on a platform people give a shit about
2) Put characters in it that people give a shit about
3) Make it a genre that people give a shit about
