Is it too late to get into physical games?

Is it too late to get into physical games?

Yeah? Obviously

Sort of. The market a few years ago around pokemon go rose in price for retro games about 200%, with a steady increase every few years. It's not worth it too, coming from me which had a lot of cool and rare games but they collect dust fast and you it makes you feel apathetic about it.

I rather collect flashcarts and install modchips desu. Sure you may pay 200 or so dollars, but its better than carrying around a bunch of junk and you get to play the same exact games on the hardware without having to move, besides to reset.

I only collect hard copies of games i like.

Owning copies of retro (pre-ps2) games is not worth it. They're too expensive, and too easy to emulate. I suggest you buy physical copies of ps2 games and later
of course many current gen games are basically just download codes even if you buy the physical copy. since so little is on the disc

>to get into physical games?

What the fuck are you talking about, they still make CDs and Nintendo still makes carts. You're basically asking if you're allowed to not be a shitter and stop downloading everything.

Man that sucks. I had a couple PS3 games I wanted to get. I guess you are right modding is the way to go but PS3 modding seems like such a hassle. I'll dig deeper into it though. Makes me feel stupid for buying games digitally when you can just download them all for free. I always thought I was being "ethical" or some bullshit but pirates had the right idea.

It's not worth it. Most of the popular retro games are so artificially inflated that you could buy a flashcart for the same amount as one game and fill it with whatever you like. Games like Earthbound are just ridiculously expensive for no reason other than fake nostalgia.

>PS3 modding seems like such a hassle
Its actually a lot easier, you just need to find a ps3 with the one-less lower firmware(?) which wouldnt be hard because people have pretty much stopped playing ps3 games. Try your local facebook marketplace.

After that you pretty much run a page, configure a few things and then you can pirate everything you've ever wanted.

PS2 is even easier, you need to just install things onto a memory card and it softmods it.

This is an old-ass photo I took in 2004. I got all these games for $5 each shipped on eBay. Now I could sell them for $50 each.

No. Just like buy games you want to play. Most of my collection is comprised of stuff I got at thrift stores and pawn shops

Can you get patches for the game somehow or are you stuck with what was on the disc at launch?

You can get patches from places that bother to give out the pkg that install patches. You can also find direct links (zeus is a keyword to search for) from PSN for update pkgs.

You can either DL the patch yourself (I forgot the link, check emulation.gametechwiki.com under the ROMs and ISOs pakge) or I think you can DL it directly from Sony's servers.

Alright, that is the rational option.

I'm still kinda bummed though I always wanted a "game shelf".

The idea seems cool, it seems intriguing but after a while the games sit and you feel worse over time.

I understand your need, its a cool collection, but after years of carting the stuff around, looking at the dust collect and the general emotions that happen DURING it, the money I spent on it too, which I wont get a huge return on it.

It's better off this way, desu. The market is controlled by the people, who like to skew it.

Then start one. No one's forcing you. PS3 games are cheap as fuck nowadays.

Also ps3 games are cheap, anything pre-ps2 is fucking inflated avoid those. Start it with those, but flashcart the rest.

it's the best time to not care about physical copies and simply play video games
>download (almost) full NES collection and set up emulation in 5 minutes

Nobody wanted 2d games in late 90s/early-mid 00s
FACTS

I don't know maybe. He's right about modern games essentially just being download codes and the rest being a patch so I'm basically just buying shelf ornaments at that point. Which I guess is what I would be doing anyway regardless of game generation.

I've just always wanted to have like a "game box" you know. I've completed 200 games and I love games but I can't touch any of them. But you can't "touch games" anyway.

I guess thats just autistic.

Every now and then I open old games and take a look at the case and manual, feels bad that feeling is gone for newer games
t.pc player.

How don't you own game boxes if you've completed that many games? Best part of collecting physical used to be the boxart but it's feels pointless now.

are there any other games where it's not on the disc than thps5 and spyro? both from activision of course

>nothing but nintendo games
God damn I hate retro game posers so fucking much.

>crt breaks
>go to buy another one online
>prices are incredibly inflated by e-celebs telling kids to buy them
>PVMs cost $1000 now
>give up and just emulate everything

>super Mario world (jp)
>smb3
>super Metroid (jp)

You'll get MAYBE $20 for them. Super Metroid probably 25 but that's it.

I've bought like 5 PVMs in the last two years and haven't even spent that much on all of them combined. Maybe you're just a retard?

I'm still a big sucker for physical copies but all the rereleases are starting to help me break free. The capcom belt action bundle on switch being physical got me to finally sell my copies of knights of the round and king of dragons. Same with the recent updated versions of wild guns and ninja warriors

I started "really" gaming in the seventh generation and never purchased a physical game, because that's something old people and the technologically illterate do. Or so I was let to believe.

>not having bought multiple of them years ago
>being so poor you cant afford $1000

I wouldn't bother.
You're going to get taken to the cleaners unless you find some diamonds-in-the-rough in the odd yard sale or something. Many thrift stores don't even put them on the floor anymore, they go straight to ebay. Get an everdrive or just emulate.

this.
all the yard sales have happened already, all the boomers have taken every game, toy or trading card to google and tried to make a buck on ebay.
There is very little chance anyone is going to dig anything good out of their attic and just assume these 20-30 year old products are worthless.

Retrons are such pieces of shit
