Yep. I think that's the main reason that line was added there. I think self-inserts can be done right if they actually serve as a way for the author to overcome his own personality flaws and also separate it enough that most people don't notice. In Austin's case he almost had it right (other than the stupid Mary Sue-ish "end the universe" stuff) but didn't listen to his own criticism and basically became Buzzo 2.0. It's kinda sad in a way because had he seen how his own actions were detrimental to himself and the people around him like it did with Buzzo we probably wouldn't even be talking about this stuff and his mental breakdown.

An interesting world with some interesting ideas, art and music, a few alright moments and a single pretty good puzzle. Only it felt too spaced out, disconnected and aimless most of the time to me. The combat as a whole is complete fucking shite and there's an assload of it, so be ready for that too. It's really not a great game at all but you'll find at least something to like about it. Anyways, it's short enough that you really have no excuse for not trying it out for yourself.

I was overall very satisfied with the ending of this game, I even liked the closure of Joyful, although I think it's annoying that the endings were not as robust as something like Undertale (like how True End overwrites Joyless end, which makes it pointless not to use Joy if you want True End anyway, which fucks with the themes of the game)

My only beef with Joyful is that gameplay wise it doesn't have much variety as the base game. You get merely two party members with only one having new gameplay features, later you only play as one character. As a result Joyful is also generally easier / simpler and there's no absolute FUCK YOU moments like Buzzo's ultimatums or other shit that force you to replan your party setup and also experiment with new strategies in the process.

If there's one thing Joyful did right it was the boss encounters. Lardy Hernandez, Sindy Gallows and Big Lincoln are all extremely memorable because of how they are intoruced and what happens during the fights.

I was really into it, I played it on painful the first time through because I'm an idiot and I got my shit kicked in at times but it just made me that much more invested. It's one of the more memorable playthroughs of a game I've done in the past decade.

I think Pointless has good gameplay, though it's a bit more like a puzzle of resource management.

I suppose I meant moving on in a general sense, if the girlfriend story is true. I should've rephrased it and said he should live his life for his own sake, not for others.

He's allowed to grieve of course and he should take as much time as needs. What concerned me was him changing his name to "Lovebrad" in remembrance of his dad and declaring he's doing everything out of sheer love from now on, while at the same time lashing out at his own fans for seemingly no reason. At the same time, the more I looked at who he was interacting with online, the more I understood that he was being manipulated into those sorts of negative thought patterns by the typical twitter/tumblr hate mobs. It's not healthy behavior, even for someone who's grieving.

I get you. I dont know about dead fathers, but moving on from gf I know can be pure hell.
The problem is that instead of staying away from the internet while grieving he probably is the kind of person who does the opposite and makes a thousand posts about all his problems online.
I dont follow him, but I say that as long as he doesnt kill himself he will get over it eventually. And hopefully that gives him inspiration for more games as well.

I personally like the story of Joyful and the way Buddy slowly becomes a monster. Gameplay wise, it's not great. Only one character means so much depth is lost in the combat. There's also virtually no lighthearted moments to break the flow of brutality like in Painful, so it goes too far in one direction tonally. It's still good, but the changes it made to the formula don't work in its favor
