>mc has the most godlike unique ability and shits on everyone
>mc has the seeminly worst unique ability, gets underestimated all the time, shits on everyone regardless
Which is better?

Neither. So fucking bored of both.

MC has reasonable ability compared to the cast at large and succeeds through skillful usage of his strengths while trying to minimize weaknesses through proper planning

Christ I am TIRED of asspull Mary Sues handed everything on a plate but the stupid fucking anime and wuxia trope where the worst is secretly the best and he constantly surprised people who underestimates him at every turn is even more nauseating

I can only stomach so much wish fulfilment, eventually the protagonist needs to actually do some fucking work

This. Nothing is better than a normal ability becoming great through the use of skill and strategy.

>main character is the only one that gets fights anymore

Attached: 5XyMD5P.jpg (271x480, 29K)

It does get a little tiring, especially when the 15 year old manages to beat the immortal combat monster who's been continually fighting for centuries and as such has far more combat experience than the 15 year old could gain in 10 lifetimes.

>character with closed eyes finally opens them

Problem being
>eventually the protagonist needs to actually do some fucking work
is extremely subjective.

Some people just want a short montage or throwaway explanation.

I think it's good for when your story isn't about combat at all and the MC just shuts down any sort of potential threat/conflict because he's a god among men
I also think it works in stuff like those chinese manga if the writer is competent enough to keep the powerups interesting and the powerlevels coherent

>reveals secret power he'd been saving to kill the villain
>villain has already achieved immortality so that power no longer works on him

Fucking Aizen.

So where does Yusuke fall on this scale?

Attached: you're a meshi.jpg (728x1112, 118K)

I don't mind progressively increasing strength as long as the protagonist doing so isn't a complete abnormality and everyone around them is also increasing, Tower of God is a decent example since not only is everyone climbing the tower but there's also people who have already reached the top although Bam is still a dumb "chosen bloodline" generic hero

I too watch dragon ball

>Main characters don't even fight the big fights
>They actually job pretty often
Pretty cool. Does YYH do this too? Man, I gotta watch it.

>main character learns Hamon

>Mechanic never returns in future games

fables are full of shit like this, don't ever fuck with Spider or Fox because they're goddamn huckleberry finn x1000

reminded of that bit in American Gods where anansi talks about tricking other animals out of their own balls which is why arachnids have so many offspring

>main character learns a cooler version of Hamon

>Rip off chi-based ability is cooler than the original concept introduced later but weebs will disagree because it's not as "unique and wacky"
What a shame

Contrastic this image with Gon-san in my mind makes me smile. This image makes it seem like the series was intended to be much different.

It's deceptive, yeah, but it doesn't drag you along for too long. People get start getting iced pretty brutally not too far in.

one piece fucking sucks
kys

didnt Franky have that fight with that Babyman and Brook fought Fucking BIG MOM?

>series has a technique that enhances their power in different ways
>writer doesn’t have character learn that technique because they would be OP

Hamon was bullshit that could do anything the story needed it to do at the moment. Stands have asspull moments too but not as bad as hamon.

I CAN'T DO IT
TELL ME WHAT TO DO O MY RAYLEIGH FLASHBACK

JUST USE HAKI HARDER LUFFY
USE HAKI HARDER

GET UP BOY
REMEMBER YOUR TRAINING
THERE'S STILL SOME HAKI IN THOSE MUSCLES
NAKAMA DAMASHII

OH NO, THAT DUDE CAN USE 2 TYPES OF HAKI AT THE SAME TIME
THIS IS THE WORST MATCH UP FOR THE KID

YA GOTTA USE "THAT", LUFFY!
OH RIGHT! THE TECHNIQUE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN USEFUL IN THE FIGHT BEFORE THIS. AND THE FIGHT BEFORE THAT. AND THE FIGHT BEFORE THAT.
REALLY, ANY FIGHT SINCE THE TIMESKIP! THANKS, MIND-RAYLEIGH!

Attached: 1469729990978.jpg (417x562, 44K)

Brook had a great speech, then the fight gets offscreen like most fights since the fucking timeskip.

Only Luffy gets real fights for a couple of chapters. Every "major" fight of the other Shs is 1 chapter only

Even Chopper got fucked over because "monster cant be a monster because he sells loads of plushies and now needs to be a cute little mascot. lets forget his cool transformations[raughs]"

Ippo shitposting aside. The whole idea was the if the crew went passed Sabody into the New World, without the timeskip and somehow beating Pacifista Kuma. They would of immediately been ROFLstomped by Hody who is pretty low-tier when it comes to the New World. Shit that could of been cool actually thinking bout it.

As much as i like both from OP
Got any shit for what you said?
That too gets me solid

>world full of superior beings, either supernatural or technologically advanced
>MC is a regular guy but is equal match to them with brains and muscles
didn't have anything in mind when I wrote this but basically Berserk when I think about it

Attached: 1520823741696.png (811x757, 561K)

Shield Hero comes to mind. MC really can't fight at all by himselfAt first
Even then it's a justified edgelord form which he hardly can used He mostly scrapes by fights with his cute tannuki wife

the bottom, the more unique the power is the more powerful it could be.
Take luffy's rubber for instance. He is made of rubber so there for he can stretch, but it doesnt stop at just his limbs, his body is made of rubber which means he can stretch his blood cells and blood veins to push more blood creating more pressure making a doping affect that makes luffy stronger.

>"Leave Big Meme to me"
>Still manages to steal both poneglyphs

MVP of the fucking century. I don't know why people think Luffy or Usopp is the secretly OP joke character when Brook exists.

>That one character who hardly ever gets involved in the action, but when they do, they do one thing and are a fucking god at it.

well i dunno. Thing is I think the issue as to why fishman island didnt work out was because it was a kingdom again and not visiting a new island that could have anything. I think the issue of the new world is that all the pirates are exploring the new islands and made settlements there. It feels like this isnt a new world because there isnt anything new to discover that we as the the reader believe is untouched by any of the other pirates.

well I love one piece for its ability to make the weakest of characters relevant and able to kill the strongest characters they just need to find a way how to do it.

>Year of Sanji
>Brook accomplishes everything while Sanji is crying about muh family and muh wife

love this gif

Mr. Prince was cucked to death. Only Sanji the meme-man remains.

At least Luffy still got sent flying trying to use Haki to counter an attack in the latest chapter. Wonder if he's going to stay beefy from now on or he's going back to being lanky after he's out of this part of the story.

>Villain beats shit out of literally anybody
>He even beats group characters that we're considered as undefeatable saviours.
>Villain is about to excecute first of these character.
>Protagonist just stops villain in last second by hitting him so hard it sends him into nearest wall
>Protagonist slowly beats shit out of villain while villain despite of using even most powerful attacks cannot stop protagonist.
>Protagonist didnt wanted to finish it quickly because he wanted to enjoy the moment when villain's huge EGO shatters and breaks.
>Villain looks at protagonist in fear while protagonist is executing him.
I wish there will be game/anime like that.

Really that should be a forgone conclusion with the existence of other emperors let alone the 5 elder stars. I think the whole mystery with the Void century and the ancient weapons is bigger then the adventure at this point.

I miss the exploring and finding new wonders too. Ever since the time skip they've basically been going forward non-stop with no side adventures or anything. It's basically been one straight line since Punk Hazard.

>joke/comedy relief character loses their shit and beat up villain

What games do this?

but that is probably why people arent feeling like the post time skip is good as the pre time skip. The manga is about adventure and now it doesnt feel like that anymore.

since fishman really. just go to the most dangerous place! thats where the plot is at anyways

That's why I love Punk hazard. It felt like classic OP, with them stumbling upon a weird island full of abnormalities, surprisingly competent minions and a real asshole villain relying on his fruit to curbstomp everyone.

I like him but I won't good
> oh my spirit wave
> oh my spirit cuffs
> oh my demon form

>went from adventure and huge journey arcs to battle shonen #1167
Jesus I mean there was always fights but they weren't the whole reason for watching before, Alabasta is the peak

is there any adventure manga that doesn't fall into that rut? Seems almost all of the big ones end up being nothing but fights the longer the series lasts.

No good ones. What kind of adventure doesn't involve fightin'?

>Every "major" fight of the other Shs is 1 chapter only
I'm pretty sure it's always been like this, most of fights in Alabasta, Skypiea and El we're self contained in one chapter

>>went from adventure and huge journey arcs to battle shonen #1167
I think you mean the opposite it went from a battle shonen to le wacky adventures xD there's barely any fights anymore

Hands down Asspull Tail.

Attached: crap_manga.jpg (720x712, 58K)

>just go to the most dangerous place! thats where the plot is at anyways
That's literally the premise of Skypiea and that doesn't stop people from jacking off the arc

Before FI and Dressrosa it was considered the low point of the franchise. Though only by stupid xenophobes who check out as soon as they have to learn about a non-standard culture.

Alabasta had almost fifty episodes of minimal fighting same with water 7. Even more with skypeia but that Arc fucking sucks once they actually get in the jungle.
There's too much strawhats now, should have cut it at Robin although Brook is cool. We can't get any banter or cool buddy pairings, like Zoro and Nami alone had like 50 minutes of dialogue before the time skip

Literally Onion Knights in FF3

The last time SH had any proper 1v1 was in Thriller Bark and that was like 10 years ago???

There's only so much novelty one can discover before they grow numb to it, writer-induced retardation notwithstanding

>TB
only Zoro had a 1 on 1, the rest was everyone vs Oars

>There's too much strawhats now,
I agree I'd say stop at chopper if they're not even gonna be let Robin do stuff

what the 2nd said
I dont know what I was expecting. Maybe it just feels like the world is getting smaller now since we learned so much. They have been through a lot and right now it feels like the element of surprise is gone, maybe its due to the manga being out for so long and we still dont know what one piece is and the what the fruits really are, and the void century.

Chopper was the one who bastardized the whole concept of being a SH, dropping all the things that once made him compelling to play up the one thing he's popular for.

Attached: 1525689670184.jpg (2214x1310, 1.02M)

> Only Zoro has a 1v1.
> Sanji vs Absalom. Usopp vs Perona. Chopper vs Hogback.

Yeea.... honestly besides Zoro vs Ryuma the rest was gimmicky gags.
