Realistic does not mean it's likely. Perhaps if people had requested the character, he would have a better shot. I have yet to see him have any presence on any Smash poll. It could still happen but i'm doubtful. Plus it's up to Sakurai and whatever list Nintendo handed him.

Nintendo thought CD's were a fad.
Nintendo thought online gaming was a fad.
Nintendo thought post game DLC was a fad.
Nintendo Shareholders would rather have money be spent on more comfortable chairs to sit in for their meetings, and for Nintendo to pay their bus fare if they require a bus to get to said meetings.

This is the company you are expecting to pay attention to fan demand without a poll to actually tell them what fans want.
