The dude who owns the server and website, Matt, is from the UK and has the servers in the UK. Royals can't be touched by Nexon, making Royals the oldest and most successful MS private server to date. Tons of chinese players caught wind of Royals in 2015, shortly after Royals experienced a reboot of sorts.

Since then, the economy has gone to shit and leadership has gone full-on corrupt. New players dont see this though. All they see is the playerbase numbers and the server ranking, both of which are number 1.

Apparently their antihack client was made so that it would detect and log any window with macro in it to stop hackers from macroing which admins would look at in their own discord. Thought this led to logging anything with macro in the window which led to personal stuff like messages or gay macro pokemon porn being leaked which the admins laughed at. I'm going to start working on my own private server soon, I aspire to knock Royals off its perch.

My first main goal is to revamp Warriors. Make it so shields give stance, giving people reason to go 1H builds. Also giving Axes and Maces higher knockback chance, making them more efficient for grinding, albeit with less single target damage than swords.
Looking through the HeavenMS source though, goddamn, you can tell why development on these servers are slow. All these Odin-based Java sources are like a mountain of code.

Good luck. The people who played pre-BB Maple are all now in their late twenties to early thirties. The amount of people willing to even play on pre-BB servers is shrinking every year. New private servers used to get 500+ in the first few months, now they're barely cracking 300. At its peak, Royals had 2000+ players but now its lucky to break 1200.

No they're not? I played Maplestory mainly from 2005-2008 and I'm 25 this year.

The scene is definitely more dead than it was, but I attribute that to the lack of creativity, and people realizing how boring the game gets at 4th job, which they reach quickly with high rates.
The right idea that nobody has taken very far is PreBB gameplay mechanics and old maps + PostBB endgame content. One of the biggest advantages nuMaple has is things to do after level 120. I currently have way more incentive to play Reboot again than another preBB server.

Is there any server that takes newer classes on plops them into older versions? Like Hayato on .83 for example.

On third job DK got that dragon cry skill that did full map attack for 35% of hp, and Cleric got Heal in second job to enable DK to use that skill for free. That was the Op combo back in the day when potions were valuable.

My MS girl ended up an ER nurse, she's a hero. We see each other once in a while, but I'm west coast and she's east. Last time I saw her was about a year ago, she came out and we had a good time. No matter how long we go without talking, it always is like we never stopped when we do.

We used to call for hours every night. We met on Maple but her internet died at some point so she ended up not playing as much, while I was still grinding it out. We lasted in a psuedo LDR for about a year. I ended up being kind of a dick to her often, not on purpose but I'd take joking around too far. We were both young, so I didn't really know boundaries and she didn't know how to bring up the things I did that bothered her, so she ended up cutting me out cold. It hurt for a long while, but after one last conversation with her where I begged her to get back, I realized I was wasting my time and had no real reason to return to that relationship, so my sadness had a very abrupt end. It was really weird looking back on it. We talked about it years later, apologized, and acknowledged that while we were immature, if we had stayed together we probably would have ended up married.

My one regret is not having sex with her before she had her boob reductions though, or even now. Oh well.
