just play slower. everyone moving to new areas should have 2/3 on overwatch who have their backs.

The game artificially increases difficulty when you do well. It’s futile.

Don't listen to Valhen, use more explosives
If the enemy can shoot back you're not using enough

Low cover is no cover. Cars are not cover. When in doubt, break line of sight. Go slow.

Cover is always useless, the only way to prevent deaths is to kill everything as soon as it activates

Unlock tactical rigging, that way you can bring both nanocock weave and a grenade or two
Get as many heavies as possible, grab all perks that include missiles or grenades
Eventually you can have 3 missiles and 6 grenades per soldier
Always move the guy who will go farthest first, that way if you uncover some shit all your other fuckers still have their turns to bomb everything
You can try shooting if you've already blown up all the cover
Don't use the goddamn gasmask or the thin mints and tentacle bots will just fucking shoot you instead

This user gets it

Just play it on a lower difficulty. No ones watching you, no one cares. If you wanna actually git gud just spam the fuck out of overwatch, go slow, use explosives any time you see an opportunity that they might be good for. Also get a few snipers with squadsight and keep them on high ground

Basic risk management. Have a place B if it goes wrong, have a plan C if plan B goes wrong. If you can't afford to miss you have already failed. That said, expect some deaths in the beginning until you have gotten better gear and ranks on your soldiers.

Overwatch crawling. Also, heavies

the problem in this game is that you lose so many countries and then you lose, even if you succeed in the missions

also the missions get repetitive, they all look some brawl at your local mcdonald's and surroundings

Play Xenonauts instead.

Play XCOM 2, its way easier

when should I start upgrading my guns and armor?

is mech and gene shit worth it?

Rush laser guns
Fuck armor
Get mechs before gene molding
Win game w/ mechs

Just build invisibility suits and rush with assault shotguns. Do giant crits.

>discover an enemy
>they always move immediately and shoot at me
why cant i get the jump on them?

Rush scientists at the start.

Don't ever flank unless you're extremely confident there isn't a new pod waiting in the fog
Blow up the ayylmao's cover
Strategically withdraw to lure the ayylmaos into taking worse cover
If you get raped to death the moment Mutons show up, just dust yourself off and try again but better

*Blocks your path

>Long War mod adds those tenctacle bots and fucking thin men in high ground
AHHHHHHHHHHH

How does this work out? I always rush engineers so I can launch 3 satellites at the end of the first month and then 2 more each month.

Not half as bad as Portent. Fucking Thinmen are the worst enemies in the game. They're so fucking strong for how early they appear.

The only casuals who thought that it was hard are the ones who forgot how to run and thought that the crew aren't expendable

wish I knew. I could never get past June in the first month after 300ish hours total time played. I also only played Long War, so that L is on me.

build satellites number 1 priority

defeated by box strats

you dont not suck. the game just eventually lets you win. xcom hates everything.

Play more careful minimize risk and use overwatch approximately 3 times as much as you do now

this, if you neglect the satellites, you can't recover

>tfw I'm about to win my first Long War campaign

Lucky bastard. I've been playing Long War for like four months, and I've only on lasers, just flipped my first country, have seven satellites with no continent bonus or South American presence, and the Hyperwave Decoder is still in my research queue.

I got XCOM 2 from the sale. Should I go in to WotC immediately or play vanilla first then WotC?

wotc

OH FUCKING GODDAMMIT, I NEVER REALIZED I ONLY NEEDED TO RESEARCH ALIEN COMPUTERS FOR SATELLITE NEXUS, I'VE HAD THAT IN MY QUEUE FOR MONTHS

>I've only on lasers
Git Gauss

>thought that the crew aren't expendable
That's because they're not. Depending on the state of your game, a total team wipe might not make the game unwinnable but it's really hard to come back from.

Haha my PC crashed while I was playing and I had to do a full re-install of the base game + the mod. Here's hoping my save file isn't corrupted!

>long war 2 iron eazy pz
>Xcom 2 ez pz and enemy within Ironman both.
>Long war rebalanced is ramming my ass hard.
Dam hadn't had a challenge like this since final mod pack, Advice nigs?

Ideally, try to have most of your squad on overwatch, then alert the enemy. The enemies will scurry around, making them potential overwatch reaction shot fodder.
Aside from timed Meld canisters, the game rewards slow, careful advancement on overwatch. (XCOM 2 tried to address this by leaning heavily on mission timers.)

That level is scary only for those who are unprepared for it. The mission is heavily scripted, so you're just reacting to what you know is going to happen next.
