How's gaming on Linux?
How's gaming on Linux?
no games
Linux has NO GAME
all games run worse except for ancient shit
lol
nethack is bretty gud
Perfectly fine with many games, but you'll run into problems on many as well. Especially big AAA games.
I have a seperate machine that I run windows on though so I mainly game on that instead of my "work" computer
It's pretty good except for games with anti-cheat shit. Luckily Im a lonely bitch who only plays single player.
Emulators run fine for the most part.
god like
superior gaming platform
>be epic pc gamer
>install Linux bc its totally radical and only for true pc enthusiasts, and dont want to embarrass myself in front of /g/
>have to install Windows anyway to play games.
Linux is for turbo autists who have to prove and justify their autism to others for internet cred
what's the superior choice of Linux distro for gaming, and why is it Debian?
Do japanese games even work on Linux?
there isn't.
Imagine being so retarded that you're stuck in the early 2000s.
yes
It's 500% better ever since Valve started helping out, but there's still some unimplemented apis in wine that affects a large portion of games still
It's being better by moments.
A year ago Proton didn't even exist, now thanks to it we can play a large number of Windows games without hassle.
And native (indie) GNU/Linux games are growing constantly as well. AAA games are being ported, but slowly.
No
maybe
I would say they're the most broken games right now. Alot of them use mfplat, which doesn't have a wine equivalent yet. I don't even think any Atelier game is playable right now
sauce on the girls?
i'll install manjaro if its good
it works great.
>native linux games on steam

>windows games on steam with proton

>native linux games on gog

>native linux games on itch.io

>1 click WINE config for games not on steam

Don't trust anybody who tells you it's good or even tolerable.
That being said, nowadays I'd rather run ganoo linux than winblows because it is indeed better than ever.
but its both of those and more
but how does gentoo hold up for gaming
its fucking garbage
fuck off back to /g/
i'd say it's tolerable at this point pretty much solely because of proton, but yeah you're intentionally gimping yourself if you try it. recently got one and I'm kinda glad I had a toaster for so long that I'm a consolefag anyway, so what does work works like a dream and what doesn't I can just play on the PS4 anyway.
it's pretty good now. Proton will run 99% of games, not to mention all the native titles.
>Don't trust anybody who tells you it's good or even tolerable.
if you're a retarded normalfag sure. If you actually have a triple digit IQ it's not a problem
>memejaro
I'm enjoying manjaro a lot, mostly it's just less autistic arch but you still get to use the arch wiki.
Enjoy your game performance being cut by 30 fps, but hey, at least you have muh freedoms.
It's shit.
Even with Proton the vast majority of PC gaming's past and future remains tied to the Windows-slow-motion-Hindenburg-disaster.
Blackpilled me on the whole platform, PC gaming must be purged.
Do games work with tiling window managers?
No, it is trash.
Otherwise you would have posted an ingame screenshot with fps counter rather than a fresh install terminal shot.
>laptop
I just use Mint becuase when I googled what the best ones were it said it was the one for dipshits that just want windows without the spying and that's pretty much exactly my boat
also because I'm too retarded to use the terminal unless I just copypaste something off the internet
Nah, it's pretty great user.
I see a nipple.
i cant even get easy anticheat to work on 7 and considering that most games using that crap and shit i dont even want to bother
In my personal experience(first gen i5, r9 290) it sucked but i do use manjaro with i3 on my thinkpad as a daily driver and just brecause of i3 i rarely boot windows but dont use manjaro-i3 its thrash
>laptop
>kde on a craptop
right now im just playing a vanilla server while waiting for shadowbringers (which i get around 80-90 fps)
its functional but steam just dont work with i3 it dont even work with the primitive tiling that of windows 7
Like everything else on Linux: a constant struggle to achieve results comparable to that you get without any effort on Windows 7 or 10.
Linux on desktop is a hobby, not a tool.
just playing some Steam Sky
Don't talk about things you've obviously never used.
There are a whole bunch of things that are way easier in linux with the added benefit of linux actually telling you what's fucking broken when something doesn't work.
Possible now. Steam proton is actually pretty good , indie games and games older than 2-5 years run without extra configuring or require configuring as much as the windows version does. Most low level Emulators are automatically cross platform by using openGL or vulkan. The only difference is that you dont have official support on any distro and have to go through community forums to see if someone else found a fix, or you are SOL if it is a new game and don't want to go through quite a bit of troubleshooting just to make it work(only if the developer decides not to explicitly develop for cross platform).
If you hate windows or dont trust them at all then its worth it. If you have other hobbies you want to focus on then get a distro that will do most the work of setting things up for you(or in the future a distro that steam actively supports). If you want to play anything like EA,Ubisoft, or Epic Launcher games(Seperate non-linux launcher from steam or Easy Anticheat) you are out of luck.
tl;dr: If you dont mind missing stuff like Warframe/Apex/Titanfall, definitely worth it and doable within about 15-20 minutes of extra work/searching.
