Invest in either spears or swords and courage for hero.
Invest in axes and fisticuffs for yangus.
Invest only in bows for angelo for the most part.
If you are playing the ps2 version invest in whips for Jessica.

Personally, I like whips because in the 3DS version you can abuse the casino for the best whip in the game. Sex appeal is pretty good.

Terry and Angelo? Terry is very popular. He even has his own spinoff game. Angelo I think is fairly popular but I'm guessing he has an alt because his hairstyle is relatively close to Eleven so in the heat of battle it would look a bit like you're playing as him.
