Nah. Elora is the only design who looks actually bad, the rest either retain the general look or give a great new look (like all of the dragons). Gnasty is one of the more major redesigns I'm quite fond of.

It was literally furry/barra bait. Complete garbage redesigns but everyone will say they're good because, well, /v is full of furries and gays now.

Both are definitely possible, I'm just having a harder time picturing Spyro 4 expanding in a meaningful way. Later Crash games had good IDEAS that can be revisited, but the post Insomniac games are largely regarded as garbage

There are ideas that can be improved upon. Different breaths and puzzles that make extensive use of them. Larger spaces to glide about and search for hidden areas, too.

They’ve actually said with Spyro and Crash that they’re ‘franchise revivals’ and that they’ll be flagship series going forward. Besides, it’s Activision company policy that they release at least one kids game per year, and with TfB, VV and Beenox they’ve set up a trio of studios to put out one game a year like with their three Call of Duty studios.

That's the best way to do it. Crash and Spyro are the kind of games where it's extreme easy for them to wear out their welcome. Just have it Crash-Spyro-Spinoff three year loop.

user it means each game gets a full three year dev cycle. Vicarious Visions puts out a new Crash every three years, Toys for Bob puts out a new Spyro every three years and Beenox puts out a new spinoff every three years, all times so that one releases each year and none of them are rushed.

I wish the Sorceress looked more like her concept art as opposed to the cartoony model we actually got. I know people wouldn't like that because it would be unfaithful but it would be one creative liberty that would have been cool. Unlike Gnasty and Ripto who were fun and comedic villains, having her look absolutely grotesque would have been a nice contrast given her depraved personality. Hell, even keeping the model the same as it is but having her looks fade into pic related the more she reveals her unhinged nature as Spyro's incessant meddling needles at her psyche would have been unironic kino. Even her voice was goofier unlike how raspy and sinister it was in the original and that was honestly quite a disappointment. Other than that, Ripto and Gnasty were perfect.

I owned Crash Bash and I fail to see why anyone would want it brought back.

The Sorceress was always in a weird place as a character. She was basically just a second Ripto without the charm. Spyro 3 was always in a weird place as a game, though, really. I don't remember much about it that really stood out, other than the rabbit that looks like Elizabeth Mitchell's fursona.

Here's my big thought - let's say Spyro never came out for PS1, it never existed, and we got the first game's remaster as a brand new IP in the current era. Would it have been as successful?

They look fine in the concept art but the outsourced-to-India 3D designers working on the remaster fucked up a bunch of shit so it just looks really fucking bad.
Look at concept art Elora, very different sure but pretty good iteration of the character. In-game though, she just looks extremely bad and toysforbob should be very ashamed that they cut corners on development.

I was using it as a description of how incompetent they were but funny thing is that a lot of things actually were outsourced to other companies, Spyro 3 reignited was apparently done completely outsourced if you watch the credits and see other companies be credited for that specific game.

The thing is, Activision wanted jt out by Christmas after Crash hit it big. But the Spyro games are a LOT more intricate and involved than Crash. Crunch was inevitable. Really, it's amazibg it's as good as it is

Honestly this. Characters were fine and if not based on anything prior were pretty good designs.
Except Elora, why the fuck did they not have a proper look at the model of a key character and make sure they had proper turn arounds.
The environments ranged from beautiful to lazy and just plain meh.

I kinda wish we could switch between graphics ala halo remastered. Just oisha button and it fades to the old graphics. That would have been really nice.

I don't think it's really known, but it's clear the games were rushed. Bugs were more numerous as the games progressed, and the first shows the most amount of polish and love. Still, in their released state all three games are impressive for what's almost certainly a rush job of maybe just over a year of work.

I miss being good at video games. It certainly feels like the older I get, the worse I am at games like Spyro and Crash.

I've brought this up a few times but I want to offer more examples. What if the elemental breaths were used as a way to add more out-of-the-box thinking when it came to beating enemies. Like, at the top of my head...
