Yeah, I love that too.

Rule of cool beats practicality in video games and movies all the damn time.

Literally no argument.

>movies all the damn time.

Why is no one trying to make a Gundam movie?

I feel like there would be a niche where you'd want a giant humanoid machine capable of all our specific articulations.

Like a body suit to manipulate stuff in space and walk on the outside of a space station.

We have structural weakness. No reason to emulate them onto our machines.

They aren't practical because it's impossible to make them work like that, brainlet.

What's the source?

>practical
Realismfags are truly the niggers of fags.

Realistically if something like the One Year War were to happen, the only "mechs" that would exist would be the Gundam and at least one (1) Zaku

There are tons of Gundam movies.
I hope you're not asking for Hollywood to make a Gundam movie, because that would be shit.

Didn't Tomino invent the Minovsky Particle just to make Mobile Suits actually practical

Oh hey one of these threads. Friendly reminder that Hardcore Mecha came out yesterday and is bretty good.

Nah man, a bit of practical realism goes a long way to making a world you can invest yourself in, that's why Marvel movies will always be shit because the people behind them have the same attitude as you.

Why the fuck do tankfags always try to tell /m/fags that mechs aren't practical? Do they seriously think for an instant that /m/fags don't know that?

Name your favorite movie, right now.

Good thing games and anime can invent bullshit space magic to make the more practical than anything else.
Or you could just be Xabungle.

Attached: 1554202503986.jpg (985x739, 66K)

A massive humanoid form has absolutely no advantage whatsoever in any environment. The Ball makes sense, some of the mobile suits were basically large scale tank tread artillery with arms which made a tiny bit of sense.
Theres no way to shoehorn giant bipeds as useful.

The shitty love story really does bring it down but that's the case in pretty much any Gundam show.

>Game has mechs
>Game also has tanks
>One doesn't completely outshine the other
Is EDF the only game that does this? No mech has the sheer firepower or comparable armor to the likes of a railgun tank, but mechs have much higher mobility and diverse armaments.

Attached: 400[1].png (400x238, 205K)

Zeon did everything wrong.

Tanks are boring though.

Sorry, I didn't realize I was talking to an autist.

Well there WAS that thing that happened to Australia.

Attached: 1513885556999.jpg (900x1124, 611K)

Yep we have, but for naturality, imagine a VR or a Neural shit, is easier for the brain to move someting that has the same articulations of the human body, just bigger, and also is going to be much more accurate, at least more than those arms that have some submarines or laparoscopic stuff used in surgery.

But yeah, I give you the point we aren't the best design, a half mecha with human hands coule be realistic and have a purpose, otherwise I don't see a giant robot fighting with giant guns.

>little badly animated anthropomorphic robots are cooler than fighters
If you're going to have a bullshit magical flying ace in a scifi setting you should have them in an actual fighter.

Wow anonymous really clever.

>the autist is trying again
No one is talking about asspulled in universe logic here, you complete sped. You tried to argue that a bipedal mech made sense in space. It doesn't.
The Ball on the other hand is a craft that would actually make sense in a zero g environment.

Australia is shit, Zeon did us a favor by getting rid of it

Then why even reply this retardation?
The Yamato is the star of the Yamato and you shouldn't act surprised or upset or talk down other parts of the show that support that. It's like crying about Yamcha losing. He isn't there to win he's there to make stakes for Goku to win.
>hurp durp these fighters sure are boring in a show where the ship is the star
Is just such a dumb fucking statement it's hard to even realize what you're trying to say in the first place.

playing it rn, sucks that they went for chibi look.

What no game gets right is how MIC maintains the weapons race with the constant development of counter tech.
Standard steel armor is vulnerable to high velocity shape charges, so armor systems like Dorchester ERA gets developed.
Even more potent anti tank rockets get produced which can punch right through ERA.
Tanks get updated with relatively low tech counter measures which make the rocket destroy itself on impact and prevent it from penetrating the armor underneath.
Tanks also get outfitted with high speed radar systems that can detect incoming rockets/missiles and automatically shoot clusters of small projectiles in their paths to destroy them before they get too close to the tank
There are new generations of rockets and missiles which are too fast for these systems to stop, or can outright withstand the impact and still deliver a leathal payload.

Its always a cat and mouse game that never ends, and it applies to pretty much everything. Doesn't matter if its rifle ammunition, body armor, airplanes, AA, MBTs, even optics.

Define practical realism when it comes to mechs. Because from my experience even a normie is sated by a simple bit of "believable" momentum in a giant robot's movements. As long as that mech is moving like people imagine it would, even despite the laws of physics being crystal clear that such a thing couldn't exist without crumbling under its own weight, people can suspend their disbelief about it.

Look at Pacific Rim 1 vs 2. Almost all the comments on videos comparing the two by the average cinema goer complains that the Jaegers "felt weightless" in the sequel. How they're moving around like agile ballerinas instead of the slow, plodding giant robots of the original.

A walking tank would be ideal for rough terrain. Two legged ones would be practical in zero gravity or low gravity, and a 4 legged tank would be ideal for earth based operations. Otherwise you're looking at mainly construction purposes for something like a small gundam. One RPG could potentially knock it over if it's the height as a tank is long. Any bigger you're looking at stability problems unless it's built like a madcat, however the problem then becomes an issue if it's too heavy in certain areas to be properly balanced. That's the key is balance. Even a 4 legged tank won't work if it can't be balanced on those 2 legs.

Imagine thinking titanfall is the pinnacle of giant robot fighting. Embarrassing.

Show me where he said anything resembling that.

>tfw realism tards are filtered by Gundam's humanoid design despite it being a tactical killing machine in-universe

Mechs are such a broad category. There are humanoid superfast anime mechs with swords, western stompy mechs with guns and everything in between. Tanks are just tanks, but they're cool too.

This. Cool>all

A bipedal mech with pivoting center (humanoid) would be infinitely more practical for indoors combat than say, a tracked or wheeled machine.

I could see this happening now full blown wars are gradually getting replaced by low intensity conflicts. Maybe not full on mechs to start but electromechanical augmented armor for human soldiers.

Did you not watch 00?

youtube.com/watch?v=BdddGIwANDE
Iron man is mecha.

exosuits are definitely viable

Anything that can fit inside a building like you're describing is either a robot or a suit of power armor, not a mech.

Iron Man is not mecha at all, you nincompoop. He wears the suit, he doesn't pilot it from a cockpit. That makes it power armor and it's considered as such in canon.

>tfw even Kojima realized how dumb giant robots are in a realistic setting and showed how impractical and outdated metal gears are as a concept in 4

Fuck off. If we're going by the broadly accepted usage of the term "mecha" then it refers to Japanese super robots.

Power rangers is mecha too.

>posts a stupid fucking gundam
>doesn't post Armored Core
Armored Core has infinitely more time invested into at least a feint amount of realism. If we see mechs in our lifetime we are getting AC's with tank legs, spider legs would likely follow.

You're really basing the definition of the word on the board called /mecha/? Toku was just dumped there because it had nowhere else to go and /m/ was the most accepting of it.

>nigger

Can't you argue that the titans are just biological magic mechs?

Fun fact in the game franchise: Monster Hunter there is a monster called the Nerscylla that has that exact knight there as an armor set.

>this oven is mecha

When is EXVS2 getting released on PS4/PC?

yes but as a result we have max DEX out of any animal, something that depending on the situation, you want do want to emulate

Put guns and flying engines and armor on them and you will get knight space titans mecha, better than gundam.

Attached: fmpj4nhmogjy.jpg (1600x1245, 175K)

if you don't give them giant guns they will still job really fucking badly to gundams

So what? Magic and dragons are also dumb. So is the Force, demons, raptors without feathers and "one-man army" characters. I don't understand where people's righteous indignation about mecha in particular comes from.

Didn't stop the Hulk. Duh

The thing I was thinking of in terms of mechs was evangelion, which I believe to be the most believable “mecha”

They get around it by making it biological, even if they didn’t however all the moving parts of the city that provide the Eva with what it needs, move its parts, construct its guns, are all done in a way that I squint a lot less when shinji and asuka kick an angels heart at the same time

Which is something I can’t say for Code Geass, or GW

titans are nowhere near as strong or as durable as the hulk

Hmmm... Isayama can buff Titans, it depends on author how strong they are.

>game set in the future
>people still use guns

Mecha are cooler because you can use the form for more interesting fight coreography.

Make sure to ruin Nuh-now's life.

They have trouble bringing the same firepower as a tank, their high profile makes them easier to spot and shoot. The supposed higher mobility is incredibly difficult to actually achieve.

Yeah, I like how flimsy they are and how Chirico goes through about 15 of them throughout the show. Even the superpowered prototype one is only slightly less of a death trap.

Be in denial all you wan,t but the way Evangelion is set up facilitates a much higher degree of suspension of disbelief then Votoms

And it's one of the reasons that NGE will be remembered forever while only a few hardcore 90s fags will even think about ATV.

What are we if not giant biological gundams built by unimaginably large colonies of microscopic creatures
"we" don't really exist, if anything our "self" is an unintended byproduct. Our only real purpose is to gather resources like calcium and iron so the little creatures can keep building their structures and repairing their flesh gundam.

You mean like every other piece of fantasy media ever created? What a shocker.

Thanks for reminding me I forgot I backed this

>the viability of a sci-fi technology

Ironically the concept of a smart-phone _was_ sci-fi technology at one point. Remember the 'tricorder' pocket-computers and -communicators from Star Trek?

And jetpacks actually do have limited usage prototypes. Had them as early as the 60s, when various militaries _did_ invest into research into them. Advancement of the times forced them to give up on it refocus on other less exotic areas, which is why that research and progress on the technology basically froze.

They're basically as expendable as a jeep, which isn't bad since they're military equipment and not supposed to be unstoppable.
Even modern fighter jets are just paper tigers, a couple get shot down each year.

NGE just puts a lot of emphasis on the maintenance and logistics of the Evas, it's a trick that makes people think they're more realistic because the show goes the extra mile to show how difficult it is just to keep them running.
That doesn't make them realistic, just believable and practical within the setting.

Votoms as I said above treats mecha like any other modern weapon. Expendable, simple, and gets the job done.
Early code geass had that vibe too until they started going full sci fantasy in S2.

You google iron harvest right now my man, thank me later

>humans are the most destructive force on earth

>upscaling the human form and making it out of steel, powered by reactor cores and rocket engines

Fuck you, it is optimal.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, once all current geopolitical charades are dropped and war becomes nothing but the pastime of uber rich oligarchs then we are 100% going to have mechas and shit because weapon manufacturers are going to throw all sense of praticality out the window and just go ham on it.

Dragonbone is made of a substance stronger than steel at least 6,000 MPa which is needed to support their massive dimensions, yet it's only got a density of approximately 1.21 g/cm3 needed to fly.

This is why Dragonbone weapons and armor is highly prized. Imagine a fantasy mecha made of Dragonbone, haha.

TONY STARK WAS ABLE TO GROW THIS MULLET IN A CAVE!

Tanks are cool but their design is clearly limited.

Mechs can articulate in all the ways a human can. They can climb, lean, go prone, roll, flip, jump, use gigantic mech weaponry, kick, punch, grab things, throw things, handle all sorts of uneven terrain...

Plus they can fly.

gravity is a thing, retard-kun.
and even discounting that, bipedal mechs would still be retarded

> Evangelion is set up facilitates a much higher degree of suspension of disbelief then Votoms
i love eva but you're beyond retarded, consider suck-starting a shotgun

I don't believe in tailoring mecha to normalfags.
I like that they can't get over "mih reelism" and that barrier allows the mecha works to do whatever without worrying abiut the kinds of problems you'd have to worry about in games or anime.

That said I think people would accept mecha if you make the universe distinguishable enough from ours that people can buy such fantastical stuff existung.
Like no one questions dragons in a fantasy world because the world is set up differently.
But a lot of mecha stories tend to be set in the future of what is assumed to be our reality.
So the disbelief kicks in.
In contrast Eva takes place in a setting where spirituality is a science and creationism is real.
Macross has alien life forms that look like martians from pulp fiction.
Transformers are explained as aliens.
Star Wars has jedi, aliens and invokes the atmosphere of an ancient myth.

Adding in slight supernatural/fantasy elements like this eases people into mecha because the universe is setup to play by different rules.
When something like Gundam uses psuedoscience to explain stuff and has a very similar appearance to our world they can't process it.

Sure it is. Mechs do everything humans can do but bigger.

Especially when controlled via neural up links. You can use a mech to build and pilot larger mechs.

It literally still applies in space. If we're talking realistic physics than a mech performing high speed movements is going to rip its own limbs off when it makes a sudden stop or sharp turn.

That's a trick answer user, there was nothing cool about season 8

Attached: shiki.jpg (740x740, 50K)

Oh yep, I clearly see this person has an argument! Thanks for letting me know!
Now back to the other two completely unrelated posters with no argument.

It seems like it's working as intended. Zeon is about newtypes dabbing and t-posing on everyone else.

Isn't it cute?

That's the question to ask you. You made a statement but didn't actually offer anything to back it up.

No. You don't understand physics. In space you can light ice on fire. Shit can get infinitely big because size and mass are relative

The main problem is the AI required to allow movement, unless the machine were able to be interfaced directly to a human brain. Even boston dynamics dog bots walk around with the mental capacity of a child. It's probably possible withe the proper joints and motors as well as AI/control

Apparently, the japs are eating it up.

>No. You don't understand physics
No, you don't understand physics. Being in space is fucking irrelevant when it comes to mass being moved around. If you want to make sharp stops and sudden turns, you need a booster system that's incredibly fucking powerful to make thrusts and corrections like that. This isn't a satellite being casually launched into orbit and maintaining a steadily increasing speed with a peter puff of air blasts, it's a several hundred ton bipedal machine flapping around like a dildo flying through the vacuum of space. Every single rapid thrust this thing makes is going to put absurd duress on the joints at the shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, knees and ankles.

I think it works better for that type of game, because of the hitbox shape.

Within the context of Gundam mobile suits make sense, or atleast the initial advent of them made sense, for fighting against spaceships. The best thing about Origins is showing why the advent of the Zaku was such a turning point for the Principality of Zeon.

You'd think the invention of Funnels/Bits would have ended up making Mobile Suit obsolete. Yes, it's an issue that you need a psychic to properly use the things, but that's probably something that can be overcome, and once they do, only psychics or Unnamed Jegan pilots would be able to stand against them.

Seriously, seeing funnels going to town on something is legit scary, the powerlessness of the target is tangible.

You agreed with me though! The focus on Eva logistics is no trick, it’s a fake world with fake physics, anything that contributes toward losing yourself in the world is a plus, ATV as fiction dose this poorly, although it is a series I enjoy.

Wings of Light baby

Attached: 70654224_p0.jpg (723x1023, 786K)

We're reaching levels of explosives resistance and countermeasures that can work to mitigate this, really. Like the counter-sensor in development that can detonate a missile about to impact a vehicle. Testing gave it a 100% success rate, and placed on, say, a tank instead of a car, the external force of the explosion is peanuts compared to if the rocket had hit the tank directly. Honestly we're in an age where on-the-boots warfare isn't really a good idea to begin with against anything higher than militia and terrorist cells, so any setting that does require full military force on the ground is bound to be making excuses or playing on audience expectations of conflict.

In multiplayer yeah. More in fact since there are unlockables. Theres a not Scopedog, pile bunker cqc, and mobile armor/dendrobium ish ones off the top of my head.

Maybe with Cygames backing.

Plot infused titanium

The only reason they aren't practical is because they're extremely energy inefficient.
If energy was to ever become a non-issue, we'd probably unironically use a bunch of humanoid and humanoid-esque robots and vehicles.

Vital parts of our body that allow our legs to function in ways that a vehicle can't.

Or, more importantly, giant-sized martial arts.

I want a mastergrade God 2.0 so bad.

Unironically one of the best designs for a villain. Not to mention, very unique and neat. Hao was cool as fuck.

No, they also need to worry about the crippling square-cube law, the strain of inertia, and the MASSIVE maintenance cost (a Jet fighter is already expensive as hell to maintain despite relying mostly on the engine propulsion) and the parts getting easily worn down by the massive strain the mecha will always suffer.

Most of the mobile suit kills in war in the pocket was from the pilots getting shredded in the cockpit while the suit remained mostly intact. Shit was brutal compared to all the other series where the whole suit goes boom.

That also happens in Iron-blooded Oprhans

If you haven't seen them there are other Spirits.
I'll check it out later then. Thanks for the info.

Wait, is the Legendary film confirmed to be about 0079?
How hard are they gonna fuck this up? The 0079 movie trilogy has such terrible pacing aside from the third movie which is godtier. If even that has pacing issues how is a single hollywood flick going to even attempt to fit 0079 into a single movie?
Why not adapt War in the Pocket or something more bitesized?

How do you know its going to be the whole series in one movie?

I just can't see why they would make something like start of 0079 up to garma or whatever. Seems like a bizarre thing to do.
It doesn't need to be the whole series, and really shouldn't, but what else would it be?
