I don't like this game, I never did. But I admit it; I just preferred the linear format.
I like linear games. I like all the 3D games prior to this one. This one was just boring.
This board seems to praise this game as one of the best Zelda games to be released, but to me, I just don't see that. But with the support this game is getting, I just don't feel as though I'll get the linear feel again. A true feeling of adventure, dependency and urgency to save Hyrule instead of the "here you go do whatever you want" kind of thing. It just feels like I have all the time in the world and the threat just doesn't feel like it's there.
I want to feel as though Hyrule is in danger and uncover it's darkest secrets throughout my quest, not to wander aimlessly hoping I find a Korok seed.
But, your arguments are sound and are perfectly valid reasons for enjoying this game. I can see why an open field Hyrule would appeal to you guys, and that arguing about this game, especially here of all boards, is a losing battle. So, I'm giving up on this franchise as a whole, and I'm claiming defeat. You guys win.
omg what the fuck you can't say anything NEGATIVE about this game SNOY SNOY SNOYT ALERT confirmed HAHA what did he mean by this?
Levi Myers
It hurts. I loved this franchise and now it's gone to hell. hopefully the botw devs at least learn from the improvments the genshin impact guys make

3D Zeldas before BOTW were Inspector Gadget simulators with way too much pointless text interruptions. At least BOTW actually felt like a game.

This is why I've given up.
These "pointless text interruptions" were FAR from pointless. Are you talking about certain situations like in Kokiri Forst when the game interrupts you to show you how to look up at the girl? That's pretty fucking important. It also happens the MOMENT you step out of a shrine in the great plateau when the old man paraglides to you to talk about how to play the game. These interruptions are neccesary to understand how the game works. It would've been a little harder to understand how the game works without it.
botw felt like rushed garbage put into a randomly generated test map and sold as a game.
at least previous zelda games had structure because of the linear design, botw has no structure at all. TP was the best of this, structured, linear zelda game but each area you played in felt fairly expansive and didn't feel like it existed for the sake of putting random buildings in it.
the only good thing about BoTW was fucking with the physics engine and doing creative shit with the powers but thats it
James Sanchez
BotW's map does actually have a ton of structure to it, you probably just never bothered to engage in it and climbed over everything instead. There's specifically designed walking paths to get to the base of every tower, every shrine entrance, and every special event sidequest.
Like the adventurers that get lost in Gerudo Canyon, you could probably find them all by chance just by climbing over everything, but there's a whole path of ladders and boardwalk paths going along the sides of the canyon that branches out into a few different split paths and exploring that will lead you directly to each NPC in the sidequest. You can even keep following the paths after that to get to Wasteland Tower's base and Gerudo Tower's base without climbing.

a world as huge as BotW's can offer both linear and "open air" progression at the same time just have the open air shit sandwiched between linear stuff, it's really not that hard nobody needs ABSOLUTE FREEDOM
Brandon Jones
For the most part BotW leaves you to experiment and figure things out yourself, it doesn't have text interruptions every ten seconds to explain the most basic obvious shit
Adrian Martin
To be honest, I have always hated 3D zelda in general including Majora, and BOTW is the first one I have ever liked. To me, any 2D zelda except the DS ones are at least an 8/10 Majora is a 5. OOT a 3 SS a 0 BOTW a 9
Josiah Hughes
Fuck off, botw fans are not representative of the wider nintendo fanbase, they are a special kind of retard
Jacob Richardson
Can't wait for BotW 2 to drive that nail in your despair further. t. OoTfag.

Even though I too prefer the linear format, I don't mind them switching it up now. But I also do want them do what ALBW did and basically keep the regular Zelda formula, but with a twist on it and with more nonlinear progression
Ryan Ross
Why can't we have both? A nice open world with a handful of massive linear story dungeons I know the 4 beast dungeons where pretty big but they were pretty meh to me, granted I only finished 2 of them. If I had to choose one though I would rather have the older format, I just got bored of the open world fighting the same 4 or so enemies and couldn't be bothered to finish it.
William Kelly
I would love to have that, hopefully they do it at some point
Jose Wright
BotW definitely isn't a game about fighting enemies. What keeps you exploring is uncovering new weird little shrine quests and scenery
Jonathan Nelson
suck it cunt why don't you cut yourself now you're in the mood for it
Jack Robinson
You're misunderstanding the importance of how these "interruptions" affected the plotline in any way.
I find it hard to believe that ANYBODY who shat on the old 3D games managed to complete every single dungeon without the assistance of a walkthrough or without the help of the game's companion. These dungeons were NOT easy, and they definitely weren't easy in the NES games considering that there was a damn manual that went through and explained how to traverse it.
>figuring things out yourself Like what, exactly? How the fuck would I be able to figure out how to deal with the divine beasts without being introduced to the runes? You're unfairly underestimating the difficulty of the dungeons on the old games. In BOTW, you are advised that resting is better than eating, you are told how to climb, how to cut a tree; etc. Don't you think these "basic obvious shit" neccesities are warranted in order to finally "experiment and figure things out yourself"?
And if you're not referring to dungeons, then what exactly are you referring to? Like the old 3D Zelda games, there is always an introduction on how to play the game, and then the game guides you and sends you on a quest to restore Hyrule. Every text interruption, every information is CRITICAL to understanding your journey and knowing where to go to progress the story further.
What "basic obvious shit" are you referring to that requires a text interruption? Please do specify, cause I'm curious.
Don't worry; I've just decided that I won't play it anyway.
