Is there a video game that manages to capture the fantasy aesthetic of 70's and 80's rock and metal bands?

Hexen and Heretic
Brutal Legend is the obvious answer since that was the point (IIRC it's cheap during the Steam sale). There's also that game that had Blind Guardian just do a concert in a cutscene.
homm3
70's van aesthetic
Most pre-2010 Ys games are intentionally meant to invoke that 70s-80s fantasy sword-and-board power-fantasy "strong man gets/protects all the girls" vibe that a lot of traditional metal artwork has.
They're even accompanied by a kickass metal soundtrack.
>kickass metal soundtrack
>50% piano/keyboard
power metal fags get out
Brutal Legend?
Unironically Dark Souls. Wish the games had a metal soundtrack instead of the indistinguishable 'le epic choir wall'
Power metal is one of the most 80s things ever.
Hell from Doom 2016
Just listen to those dark souls metal bands
>when the third game in the series is the best one
I would recommend the original Hero's Quest on DOS PC, is from '89 and has some pretty fantastical designs.
>when a joke developers parody games are better than the real stuff
Gloryhammer are plagiarists
The aesthetic is so cool, it's a shame the music is so embarrassing and awful

MAN WHO DO YOU JUST THINK YOU ARE?
You mean the artist who made the cover.

Most WRPGs nail the metal fantasy aesthetic down
Lots of 80s and 90s JRPGs nail the metal science fantasy aesthetic down

and why the music is so fucking awesome?
now that album is a fucking monster, literally too good
more vidya needs this aesthetic
Castlevania
isnt that what Slain was for?
>American Metal
Cringe
Europeans can't play metal, especially power metal. Their metal is full of keyboards and pop choruses and lacks riffs
>modern american power
youtube.com
>modern european """power"""

American and european power are 2 different genres.
I feel the same way. I think Europeans are too nostalgic and obsessed with sweeping choruses and "epic" melodies

Shadow of the Beast
>Took this long to post Noble Beast
At least we've gotten there. Godlike debut album, and we'll never get another. We Burn and Nothing To Repent are two of my favorite songs of all time.
>WHEN WE SAAAAIIILL ACROSS THE WAAAAAYYY
this
>and we'll never get another.
They literally disbanded because the rest of the band found loli hentai on the vocalist's laptop and his ex ratted him out to his mates as a pedo
Not a metal fag but do y’all like this?
Pretty funny after I got over learning about them disbanding. Based bandmates disassociating with pedos. Saw a video of them performing at a radio station and I wasn't surprised at all when I saw what the guy looked like.

If I could pick anyone to make a Castlevania soundtrack, it would be this man.
Imagine a Bethesda style open world (except actually good with a real engine) with this aesthetic. Instead of traversing into a generic draugr dungeon, you go into a cathedral base of some fucking powerful blood wizard and his army of gargoyles.
A large amount of instrumental Japanese music from the 80s & 90s (and thus particularly video game music) was directly inspired by Yngwie and the guitar virtuosos that followed in his footsteps. He was so fucking popular over there that similar acts from the West could do good business on Japanese tours.
That said, I think Joe Satriani is peak "This sounds like it's from a video game"-core.
>Playing a gig nearby with Beast in Black
>I won't be able to go due to it being my friend's 60th birthday that day
Shamee
Games with this aesthetic?
Holy Diver (NES) is literally directly based on exactly what you're asking for. It's even named after a Dio song.
This. A shame that some japs made a better work at capturing these aesthetics than West ever will do.
>I think Joe Satriani is peak "This sounds like it's from a video game"-core
Look up "dark epic music" on youtube. It's an entire genre of basically "music that sounds like it's from a video game trailer".
Brutal Legend obvs.
Yngwie Malmsteen's popularity is the reason why Japan is the biggest neo-classical metal/power metal powerhouse on the planet right now.

A SILLY BUM WITH SEVEN STARS
>Yngwie Malmsteen
dont credit this blowhard for power metal please
Pretty sure X Japan was popular in Japan before Yngwie was
X Japan was selling out stadiums.
Sad that the new album cover dropped this style.
Everyone knows Kai Hansen invented power metal.
Yngwie invented neo-classical metal
Power metal was invented by Riot in the late 70s.
There's an entire wave of American power metal bands before Europower was a thing.
>Implying it wasn't Herman Li
He's really cool, you guys

Europower is not the same as american power metal. These days power metal = european style power metal.
>American power metal bands
lel
They're both called power metal and both have the same roots even though they took it in different directions.
I wasn't thinking trailer music so much as actual background music. Most of his 00s/10s stuff (and Surfing with the Alien) gives off a 6th/7th-gen JRPG feel.

Damn, now I'm going to be listening to his stuff all week after looking for these.
What I want is a game that gives off the vibe of Glass Spider.

Power metal = American
Flower metal = European
Europower was heavily influenced by speed metal. I dont know if this is true for american power metal.
But we all agree that Michael Kiske is the best power metal vocalist of all time, right?
Yessu, yessu. Very werr done, Americanu and Europuean power metaruu. Werr done. However.
youtube.com
You mean Dio.
They both came from speed metal. European power metal just became faster and more melodic and lead-heavy because Europeans thought was powerful, while American power metal could alternate between slower and fast, louder and riff-heavy because Americans thought was powerful. Also barely any keyboards and vocals were much deeper and operatic compared to Europeans.
Why are they always looking like dolls. Even not visual key bands look not normal.
In the west they mostly try to look badass and the japs try to look fabulous
You mean Hansi Kürsch or Russel Allen.
Its Jorn Lande, the best singer wasted on bad bands
It's a mixture between the hardcore punk aesthetic in Japan which overlapped with the metal scene, and Japan really liking Western glam metal and incorporated that aesthetic into all their metal subgenres.
You couldn't even tell pic related play power metal.
Forgot pic
past a certain point it's down to personal taste. i prefer fabio lione.
you mean the most boring and shitty music on earth?
i mean just imagine exiting the era of shitty teenage british rock bands beating the pet sounds/sgt pepper aesthetic to death and then decide to make music about dungeons and dragons for another decade or two.
Fabio the madlad did it:
Sacred 2
Stargazer by Rainbow would be one of the greatest RPG quest plots ever

>Don't tread carefully enough and you are enslaved
>Help the wizard without being enslaved
>Kill the wizard and free everyone
>Live with the consequences forever
power , heavy and glam metal are best metal
>In the west they mostly try to look badass and the japs try to look fabulous
Japs didn't get the memo that glam metal was a mistake, now you got brutal death metal bands that look like gay anime cosplayers.
youtube.com
thats just japan, not glam metal
The entire visual kei aesthetic is rooted in glam metal, that's the point. The reason all these metal bands look like anime cosplayers started because Japs took glam metal too far.
Add and the new Amid Evil and you are good to go
Looks more like AMD Evil.
What´s it with japanese metal and looking gay af?
Even the guys from Babymetal look like hosts or, in the case of the bassist, like asexual alien-people
*without their facepaint
Looking in the wrong places
probably they draw their aesthetic inspiration from the jap ghots
still better than rnb or nu-music like tessa thompsons ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''music''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' in creed 2
Remake of this CRPG gem when?
best band in this thread
Guilty Gear was born from rock and roll but while it's got some pretty metal artwork, it rarely looks that way in-game imo.
these cheesy fuckers has really fallen from grace, but Sign of the hammer will always be my favourite album
The characters themselves (and the plot) are very anime but the general aesthetic is definitely metal album covers. Daisuke is a massive music westaboo and metalhead/dadrock lover. His main two characters are named Kiske and Badguy (Freddie Mercury's nickname), and Ky Kiske's movelist is named after tracks off of Ride The Lightning.
nigger what
that's a gigantic insult to dark souls's aesthetic
unironically feel bad for saying that you philistine fuck
No, it didn't really pick up until the 90's. Except for Keeper of the Seven Keys, all the memorable albums and bands were made and formed after 1990.
Kings of Metal was the first metal album I ever listened.
I don't like their work from Gods of War though.
Saw them live at the Kings of Metal 25th anniversary and shit was 10/10.
Also Battle Hymns is underrated.

what the fuck
I don't see Martin, Andy, Gizz or either of the Simons in that photo user.
But user, Jap Sabbat is older, better and mroe well known.
what's Martin doing nowadays? I miss him in Skyclad, but apparently he's burnt all bridges and then some.
Nobody would even know about them if Fenriz didn't keep plugging them
dark souls aesthetic is the cringiest overly detailed hot topic shit ever. coming from someone who's played it dozens of times.
That's not exactly true. Gezol has a fuck-ton of ties to a lot of metal bands and scenes internationally and he uses Sabbat as a means to try and unite and advertise a lot of obscure Jap thrash/black metal internationally.
>Who's Dio and Ritchie Blackmore? I've never heard of them
>essential American power metal

80's and 90's metal visual kei is the shit. I miss when metal and rock had some theatrics instead of every band playing in carho shorts

I'm glad Gezol ventured out of BlackenedThrash to found one of the cheesiest, fun metal bands to exist - Metalucifer.

Last I heard he was working on a solo project and producing. That was a couple of years back though. I miss his Skyclad too.

What game captures the aesthetic of Roger Dean (Yes Album) cover art?
youtube.com
>working on a solo project
I think that was in 2008. He's grown into a lazy, angry and bitter man
Not him but Manowar is the quintessential, most text-book example of the American power metal style
>Roger Dean
Bruh, He used to do tons of artwork for game covers in the 80's
>Ample Destruction and Titan Force but not the GOAT Metal From Hell
I need a game that matches this aesthetic.
Yes and he made the Tetris logo. But I want a GAME with his art style/aesthetic
fucker got it first
will Manowar ever make a good album again? They haven't made anything good in the last 15 years
Nah this was literally a couple, maybe three years ago, Dani Filth was talking about it iirc
Any band that sounds like falcom Sound Team / Yuzo Koshiro / Daisuke Ishiwatari / GUST Sound Team (the metal battle tracks)?
Most preferrably, without vocals.
for me it was outlands in WoW. I definitely don't recommend playing it nowadays, though.
Maybe destiny 2.
XX and older games were pretty metal, though
Xrd is where GG took the weeb route
