They were only stuck on your console on the Wii and maybe DSi for whatever digital-only games it had, every platform since that has used an account that your games are tied to. You have to jump through an extra hoop or two to unlink and relink your account but your games are all tied to it, not to an individual piece of hardware. If I bought a new Switch, I'd just have my account linked to the new console and unlinked from the old one, all my games are there.

Digital also means when servers are gone so is your ability to redownload or update/patch the game. Let's say your console or HDD breaks and you need to replace them down the line, no servers = all your games go poof. Even if you still had them downloaded, playing them on another console requires authentication that is no longer possible and you can't download crucial patches or updates either.

Again, digital is worse in every conceivable way aside from the fact that you can be a lazy POS and not have to swap games. That's the only advantage to renting a digital license.

Nintendo themselves say it has to be registered within one year of the game's original release to receive gold points from a physical game.

the pros of digital is completely outweighed by the pros of physical. who even needs to play multiple games when going out? if you're out for so long that you want to play a different game then you should also probably bring your case for the Switch, so carrying multiple carts shouldn't be an issue.
However the digital voucher thing that Nintendo offers is a step in the right direction by offering a discount for the digital version. All digital versions should cost less than their physical counterpart.

I'm not sure how to feel about infinite challenges replacing 100 Mario. You only get 5 lives to start with so it encourages you to skip if a level looks like it will take many tries for sure. In 100 Mario you could go like "well I still have this many lives so I'll keep trying this level for now".

My guess is that while it's possible to make a complete mess, it's not possible to make something that looks like a glitchy mistake. Objects float in Mario so nothing matters. But with access to water tiles, players can make floating water, which will just look like complete shit.

nope, if you lose the ability to redownload you'll still have the game in your drive anyway
the only way to lose it now would be if your HDD broke, which is the same as your game disk/cart breaking, except you can clone your HDD
