Considering you can potentially play the game for several in-game decades and the characters don't age at all, it's better to not give the characters a specific age so that doesn't feel as weird. The games doesn't often mention specific numbers of years passing for the same reason.

Try to earn money during the first 13 days and put that money into Strawberries. during the egg festival on the 13th.

Save about half of the ones you cultivate (the ones with no stars) so that you can use a seed maker on the remainder and have them ready for year 2, they will be a really good profit.

Always watch the queen of sauce. If you miss an episode it takes foreeever for the recipes to cycle back around. Just check the tv every day by habit, never hurts to check weather anyway.

For the love of God, plant as many trees as possible on parts of your farm that you don't usually use. You need as much wood, oak resin, and coal as possible for preserve jars and kegs. Also, don't bother making the first tier sprinkler. It's absolutely worthless.

Is there a mod that completely rehauls the village? I legitimately cannot enjoy the characters of stardew valley. I played a lot of the original rune factory and harvest moon as a kid, I loved the characters, I genuinely loved the medieval, fantasy europe setting, the art was gorgeous, the clothes design was beautiful, they were such wonderful games to get into. And yet, stardew valley, I find 80% of the girls gross and shitty characters, the art is disgusting and fat, and it's generally lost its magic, notably by constantly bringing up fucking "corporations are evil" bullshit. Just make a world without big companies. bring me back to fantasy medieval europe. fuck.

You can do it sure. But viable? It’s always going to make far far less than farming even with all the perks going to rancher and such. You want some of each animal, but it won’t be your primary income.

Hmm. Well, some big tips would be to save a little bit of everything. Chests are easy to make, so hoard a couple of everything. You never know when something will be useful.
Checking out a wiki page for the various seasons is handy to find out what crops have the best profit margin
Try to focus on everything. Mining, foraging, farming, fishing, combat, all of it. Fishing in particular is a little tough at first, but gets easier the more you do it.
Upgrading tools takes 2 days, so it's best to upgrade the watering can when there's rain the next day.

I do think that taking your time with the game is important though. You lose nothing by waiting before tackling something, so take your time and have fun

They're better now that they fixed the glitches associated with animals and made it so recipes will accept any variant of produce instead of fucking you over for getting large milk/eggs/etc. But from what I remember the only animals worth raising for money is pigs, which are incredibly lucrative with the right perks.

They were nerfed a while ago. Also in the greenhouse hops turned into pale ale is the best investment to my knowledge.

I don't see how. Pale ale is 150g daily(2 days to produce at 300g sale price, hops grow daily so you should have 2x the kegs you have hops plants). Ancient fruit takes 7 days to grow and 7 days to turn into wine, for a sale price of 1650 for 14 days of work per berry, putting it at 117.86g/day. Even before they were nerfed in price they were still a 150g/day profit essentially which is the same as pale ale. I think a mixture of hops+ ancient fruit is probably better than just all of one now that I think about it. Fill up whatever spots hops plants can't be placed(so you can still harvest them all, as you can't move through the hops) with ancient fruit. Been about a year since I played last but haven't seen any new crops to my knowledge better than these two.

I'm not super anal about it, but I find optimizing the farm production and stuff to be fun. I also don't only grow the "good" crops each season either. But like someone else said, the greenhouse is there to make money year round, so I min/max that eventually.

I'm 20 hours in and have no idea what I'm doing but it's fun. I maxed out fishing first, then got to ~ level 90 in the mines, then bought a barn and coop for 4 cows and 4 chickens. Now I've got 4 goats as well, and a few fruit trees. I'm romancing Penny, about 3 more hearts to go. Got the sprinklers. I'm in winter of year one so I guess I'll just focus on upgrading tools and getting further into the mine. Come spring I'll actually focus on crops, I kind of ignored them my first year.
