Like I’d rather just end it at ultimate than get another smash with half the roster what the point, it’s not like ultimate is brawl with a joke of a competitive scene, the next one isn’t going to be “melee but with only 40characters they balanced it!!!” Project M proved that melee mechanics for every character isn’t even all that great so what exactly would this hypothetical seller roster smash be shooting for? Frankly ultimate should be the end and a future “smash” game should be like a one player adventure game or rpg or racer or something with “smash” only indicating that it will have characters from tons of different games.

Seriously, what would be the point of making another smash if we cut half the cast or even 20%

They're sort of commodities. It's not so simple as picking one character over the other, but there are numerous characters they consider, and eventually they've got to make a call on what they want to do given the time and money available to them. Even DLC adheres to this. So no one is stealing slots or anything but there is a point in development where characters are considered lower priority or more suited for other roles compared to others. It's not wrong for fans to question whether or not those priorities were misplaced.

In terms of variety, i'd say your lists suffers, but that is expected from getting rid of half of all current characters. Now in terms of objective representation, i'd say this is actually one of the best i've seen so far. It gets rid of secondary roster fluff (yes, including characters i enjoy) and still represents all these awesome series.

The only flaws i see are the fact that you got rid of Pokemon Trainer (i know they're 3 characters, but they use a single slot). PT is the perfect execution of the main mechanics of Pokemon and is the absolute best rep for it. Pikachu can stay too for obvious reasons. A newer pokemon is necessary to rep post-Gen 1 Pokemon and Greninja is stupidly popular and somewhat more bearable than the other modern reps, so i can deal with it. Any list that leaves only gen 1 pokemon is absolutely idiotic and useless.
Another flaw is the fact that FE has too many reps. Mario, Zelda and Pokemon having 3-5 reps is understandable due to them being the most important Nintendo IP's, but it doesn't make sense in a more Niche title like Fire Emblem. I like Ike, but remove him and leave the OG Marth as the simple Neutral-based swordie along with Robin as the Strategic Spellsword to showcase. With Ike's slot gone, add in Joker or Bayonetta. I dunno which one would have wider appeal, but Bayo at least has the ballot results to support her, so i'm inclined to say Bayo.

With these changes we keep the IP representation to the maximum and leave only the most fundamental characters, making it very well rounded.

Good list, but get rid of puff and either Luke or Gren to leave 4 Pokemon. 6 is too much.

-Just gonna assume most clones/echos are gonna stay 'cause they REALLY don't add that much to development time. If anything their moves should have slightly different properties (Daisy) or they should have different specials (Richter with different sub-weapons, Dark Pit with different weapons from Uprising)
-R.O.B, WFT, and Banjo should stay specifically because they represent particular parts of Nintendo's history (NES, Wii, N64). Duck Hunt and G&W shouldn't because what they represent isn't as important (and R.O.B is a better rep for the NES era that DH).
-Third-part characters are great so as many should stay as possible. Joker's probably the least historically important tho so he can go.
-imo Robin is the perfect FE rep. so make Robin's copper sword have a tipper, but the levin sword have a roy-style sweetspot (non-sweetspot is around current damage, sweetspot does obscene damage/knockback), so you still have the functions of Roy/Marth. Besides that, have one flat damage Lucina-type character. Preferably, replace one or both with newer FE characters to shill the newer games.
-"replace their functions" doesn't necessarily mean a 1-1 replacement. It means like have one new character that's a fast Joker/Shiek-type character, one character with a multi-character gimmick like Rosa or ICs, but one new Incineroar-type grappler, etc

I can see suitable replacements for some of the characters you listed, Like Ryu Hayabusa replacing Sheik, or Giant Panther replacing Incineroar, but there are others that are too iconic to replace in their archetype. I mean, who could pull off boxing better than Little Mac? Or dual-character better than Ice Climbers?
