I'm going to repeat my instructions for getting this working on Linux and Mac (because the included "VerySimpleWebServer.exe" is obviously for Windows).
Nginx is an open source web server which we can use instead.
1. Open Terminal. If you're on Mac you'll need a package manager - install Homebrew (brew.sh
2. Install Nginx using your package manager (on Mac with Homebrew this will be "brew install nginx" into Terminal)
3. Once installed, open up the Nginx config file (for me that was at /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf - but it might be different on Linux, but in any case it should tell you the config file location when you install Nginx).
4. Within that file, there is a "location / {}" block (the only one not commented out with a #). There's a line that determines the root path - for me that line is "root /usr/local/var/www;" - so within whatever folder it says there, put your Mario Royale files (Specifically, the files that are linked to in the OP of this thread - inside that zip, go into "www". The "royale" directory inside there needs to go into your Nginx root directory, which should be /usr/local/var/www)
5. Still in the config file, underneath the root command, still within the location block, add the line "try_files $uri $uri.json;" - without that it won't work.
6. Start Nginx (just "nginx" in Terminal).
7. Navigate to localhost:8080
8. Profit.

I think people are working on rehosting the game's back-end. But the original back-end is still working for now. This solution merely involves downloading the front-end files (HTML, CSS, JS, that sort of thing) and hosting them yourself on your own machine. That's why you navigate to 127.0.0.1 or localhost. That means your own machine. Then the code you're hosting on your machine contacts the Web Socket back end on the original server, which hasn't been taken down for some reason.

You can still add it back by modding the game.
Edit the file and add the fence back, then clear your cache to return the fence.
