Don't know the details from memory, but recently some guy spent a lot of time hunting down the developers to ask all kinds of questions. They say the game was so mismanaged that they cut almost half of its content but left traces of it in the published game.
Like Tahu Nuva at the end, he's actually programmed to be able to walk around even though he only has a surfing level. That's cause he originally had a normal open-area level and the surfing part was meant to be a small part of it. The same goes for Kopaka, he's got programmed walking animations that you never use in the gameplay.

Mostly cause Lego tends to suck at finding good companies to partner with (see both the unreleased 01 game and the half-finished 03 game) and because Bionicle doesn't fit into the mold of what regular people think of Lego. That's why Bionicle Heroes had to be toned down to have little violence and next to no story, focusing on dumb slapstick and construction gimmicks instead. I've also seen people say that it's a measure of size, but what makes ground more ground than rock is basically anyone's guess.

All are pretty good, but Avak (brown one) is a little iffy cause his rubber mouth always deforms and doesn't sit flush on the head piece. His prototype looked better, I don't know why they changed it.

Zaktan's triple scissor sword is p cool.
Vezok is the piraka posterboy, and the fishing hook makes for a cool giant fist thing.
Thok's got unique colors and a cool ice blaster thingy.
Avak has big ol chipmunk cheeks.

Baraki and Toa Mahri sets were great. Outside of the original 6 and Bohroks those were my favorite.

Was there some kind of like giant bionicle lore book? I vividly remember having one, it was like hundreds of pages with pictures of all of them and a description of them. It had a lot of the other creatures that inhabited the bionicle universe as well. I wish that I could find it.
