So, this seems to (roughly) be the top 10 people we're looking at as a possible Smash rep in my opinion. I kinda cheated by grouping Capcom and Namco, and I haven't included characters that are spirits, as well as characters that have been deconfirmed by their creators. I'll mention a few of those at the end however.

Ryu was Capcom's only new character in Smash, and he was an echo. Capcom may get a DLC slot, and if so it's very possible that a Resident Evil rep or maybe Phoenix Wright will join. Dante's also got a chance, though I think they'd push RE over Dante.

Touhou is more likely due to having priority, the franchise is over 20 years old and is still relevant, it's the face of doujin culture in Japan and one of the most popular indie series even in the west.
Also Undertale wouldn't really aim at a new demographic considering how it was inspired by Mother and other Nintendo games. Its fanbase overlaps with Nintendo way more than the Touhou community does.

Well, for one, the Chosen Undead would, given all of the possibilities with gameplay mechanics and what not. Doomguy also would be one of the most unique fighters in the game due to have an almoat entirely projectile based moveset. Amaterasu would be extremely interesting and unique due to her body type and many different weapons, as well as her own ink mechanic.

There isn't much cartoony characters that could get in, except for Crash.

But Undertale is from fucking 2015 lmao. Also Persona isn't particulatily being pushed let alone by Nintendo.

They only planned on announcing 5 fighters by the time the game was complete, though. The only other Nintendo characters which lack spirits are Sylux & Adeleine, both of which are the only notable characters missing from their series. This isn’t true for Porky though, since other notable Mother characters, like Giygas, Dr. Andonuts, and Fassad also lack spirits, meaning those could be possible DLC spirits with Porky’s release. If they’re putting Porky in, he’ll be in by February next year, since he’s the only Nintendo character who appears to be planned in advance. If he isn’t in by then, he probably won’t get in.
