Fucking based.
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney Says Only Exclusive Deals Can Combat Steam

Why would I combat a monopoly that is good?
Even worse, combat it with a shittier and sketchy version of it
Exclusives are the only way anyone would use a service other than Steam, Epic could have 1:1 feature parity with Steam and nobody would use it
Unless you're a deranged shill for GOG which is a thousand times worse than Steam
NOOOOO IT'S NOT FAIR STEAMBROS
>GOG which is a thousand times worse than Steam
why?
They are only needed if the platform you offer lacks features the other one has.
Sweeney is basically aknowledging that the EGS is fucking shit.
He is not wrong. Only exclusives pull people.
You know, LIKE FUCKING CONSOLES DO.
don't bully gog-chan
The only people who hate exclusives
are people who own platforms that do not have them
prove me wrong
you can't
I just wish he was more honest and said it was about money and wanting to be on top. Nobody cares about Steam taking majority revenue from games. No one. Sweeney is a bored CEO with a lot of money so he figured to himself he'd try to be no. 1. That's all this is.
Where's GOG's version of Steam workshop? They've been around longer than Epic
I use the Epic Game Store.
it's literally just muh 88/12 again without anything else to add, it's all based on "if the publishers were to use this extra money for better games" but in reality it's going to be used for bigger bonuses for the higher ups.
>monopoly
>good
imagine being THIS retarded
>the only way to combat 70/30 is to gut features and run an unsustainable model while making some users pay for the fees
okay so for all I care why does it have to go
Are you just being contrarian?
Nobody uses GOG yet fags pretend like it's competitive with Steam. Epic is doing everything right.
>all monopoly bad hurr durr
>the only way to change the 70/30 status quo
Why should any consumer give a fuck about the revenue split? Its not like that fair trade shit they do so 3rd world farmers are not fucked by international corporations.
To be fair everything steam has ever added was lifted from xfire over the same time span GOG has existed. It's pretty crazy that steam hasn't added a single new feature since xfire shut down.
>Affect the whole game industry
>By ruining an open platform and turning fans against developers and publishers
Fuck Epic Games! PC gamers lost all credibility during this generation.
>I'm a poorfag
Why out yourself like this? Anyone who owns all consoles hates exclusives since it means you have to play games on sub-par PCs.
incorrect, i'd be fine with using epic's store if it was at least decent. right now if i were to buy in and if i ever changed drive letters on my computer or just reinstalled the os, with my games hard drives intact, i'd have to download every single game over again, because their client can't read in already existing game installs. oh and there are no plans to fix this issue. every other client has this feature.
Considering not a single digital service isn't even close to steam in terms of features, your post means nothing but bullshit.
>Nobody uses GOG yet fags pretend like it's competitive with Steam.
I mean at one point it could have been, but GOG just gave up their games to Steam rather than made them exclusive and became the equivalent of the guy in the dog mask to Steam's old man
>Epic is doing everything right.
No they aren't, they're just greedy and uncreative. Steam doesn't lock games to their platform, it's a 'monopoly' because it's the best.
there is literally NO instance when the lack of competition is good
It won't last if they don't upgrade their lame game launcher fast.
More like China and Tencent want to control the entire gaming industry. They buy majority stock in companies and sign exclusive deals with the companies that refuse to allow them to buy stock.
There is competition, and Steam is winning. That simple, people use Steam over other platforms because it's better.
I guess having no features is an exclusive of their store as well, right?
Whatever it is it's not for the good of consumers.
what else can steam add
>Considering not a single digital service isn't even close to steam in terms of features, your post means nothing but bullshit.
I think you mean it proves me right; nobody would use Origin if not for its exclusives even if it had 1:1 feature parity with Steam
they added a discord like chat
>more options for customers are better
>pays boatloads to take games off of steam at launch even when the devs promised people it would available there
not gonna trust a single thing this guy says.
And what could Epic add that Steam already doesn't do?
there's plenty of competition, yet there's still a monopoly. what you rather the monopoly be "broken" and the end product is worse for the consumer?
tim would sell ice to an eskimo if he could.
>it's all based on "if the publishers were to use this extra money for better games" but in reality it's going to be used for bigger bonuses for the higher ups.
This. There is no fucking benefit to game companies making more money because none of that money will be spent on improving the product, it's all just more cocaine and hookers for the CEO and top shareholders.
Because if small game devs can't benefit from their games being sold, you'll be stuck with soulless AAA lootboxing pachinko live services developed by shitty corporations for years to come. And nobody wants that.
two stores selling the same item at competing prices us good for the consumer
Two stores, one of which is paying suppliers to only supply them, while lacking basic features is bad for the consumer.
new no features sure its not like steam made it possible to not need skechty software to use your dinput controllers in games retard
>monopoly of games good
>Wanting to bring to PC the cancer of consoles
Rrported for advertising and begging
Or, y'know, they could actually have competitive prices. I remember when I bought a shitload of games from Green Man Gaming back when their rewards program was worth a damn.
Forced exclusives are an inherently anti-consumer practice.
I hate it even if it's on my platform.
>Supporting EA on anything
Get the fuck out.
>steam
>good
up until about 5-6 years ago i was a rabid valve fanboy but you'd have to be blind to not realise how shit they've become. i don't like epic's way of doing things but competition is good on the whole.
i really miss flash sales
You keep repeating that claim but it has no evidence behind it other than "I said so". We don't know if having feature parity with Steam would be enough to compete with Steam because literally no online store has feature parity with Steam: Steam has the most features by far.
"dominant store fronts"
just say steam you fucking pussy
this is why epic will never compete
Exclusive licensing should be illegal.
All intellectual property should be licenseable by anyone at any time.
This prevents monopolies while also allowing people who create new ideas and intellectual properties to profit in a free market of ideas.
In this system, it would be possible to compete with Steam by simply licensing all of the relevant games that Steam has licensed (as there are no exclusivity deals and licenses for any game can be purchased by anyone Steam has no way to prevent this) and sell them all on a superior service platform.
Alas, we live in a world where exclusivity and artificial monopolies are a thing so we can never have this.
>>it's all based on "if the publishers were to use this extra money for better games" but in reality it's going to be used for bigger bonuses for the higher ups.
>This. There is no fucking benefit to game companies making more money because none of that money will be spent on improving the product, it's all just more cocaine and hookers for the CEO and top shareholders.
Shakedown Hawaii was literally made and published by one guy - there's no evil CEO here, he got the full benefits
Though I love when Steam drones act like everyone who makes games is evil
>Origin
>Having the same amount of features as steam
Nice going dumbfuck.
Based Tim bringing PC down to consolewar faggotry level.
What happened to "monopoly is bad"?
The issue isn't "steam good, epic bad".
The issue is "steam bad, epic even worse".
What makes you say that steam has gotten worse? What has changed/failed to change?
> Not good service
> Not good prices
> Exclusivity is the only way
Legit idiot here, pls explain this to me
>State owned firm having a monopoly on a vital resource like water is bad because we can't pump unfiltered water from a public natural park through raw lead pipes into plastic bottles for maximum revenue so shareholders go yay
based ancap brainlet
Reminder the only true.tm free market is one with a state adding incentives for smaller firms to overtake industry leaders with innovation and also breaking up naturally occurring monopolies like Disney's stranglehold on modern media
>combat a “monopoly” by being an actual monopoly
for indie devs it's better but only indie devs. smaller store so more attention and won't be as obfuscated by many other games, plus the higher cut helps. in any other scenario 88/12 is shit for the consumer.
Tl; dr: Shut up and buy from Epic you piece of shit
This. Why do people always forget indie devs? They are the only hope for a better gaming future
more like Tim Weenie
No no no, that's not what he's saying.
What Tim really means to say is
"Why make a platform that can compete by being a good service, when you can just FORCE new customers by not giving them a choice? :)"
>unironically thinking that a storefront buying out exclusives is a good thing for the consumer
>even despite said storefront still lacking such basic features as a shopping cart
>being this much of a brainlet that you're too blind to see epic isn't trying to compete, but trying to obtain a monopoly by default
Ok retard
In what way has steam become shit?
Ebin store is worse, and it's not cheaper.
It's hard to see from a consumer point of view why anyone would use it.
I dont understand how people can't read the difference between
>You can release on any storefront you want
and
>You are legally bound to only release on our store or we will sue you
Valve is the former, it has monopoly by default, but it has never forced people to restrict their release venues. "Exclusives are actually good!" is on par with "Surprise mechanics" as a boldfaced lie.
I honestly want to butcher this guy like a pig. Not because I like Valve or Steam, but because he's so full of shit. Disgusting. Just fucking DISGUSTING.
>Le steam bad!
Why is it bad?
Wouldn't lower prices work better?
Steamie, Steamie
Butt is steaming
Can't compete with Timmy Sweeney
Steamie, Steamie
Butt is steaming
I love how he's still pushing this narrative that Epic are Nice Guys, doing what they're doing out of pure altruism.
>why is a drm service that wiped out physical distribution and consumer freedom bad while catering to the lowest of the low consumerists that just want to buy more shit and get EBIN level ups on their profile bad
HMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
That would cut into profits.
>Steam doesn't lock games to their platform
Where can I get a non Steam version of Team Fortress 2?
If I'm not on Steam, how am I supposed to ERP with my fellow anime/furry avatar-ed friends and then show them my badge collection after we synchronize our prostate orgasms?
>Le TF2 example
Try harder chang
I like how he always makes local retards cry.
The truth of the matter is that they won't be able to unload mountains of cash to secure exclusivities forever. In the long term, they will need to rely on a better customer service than steam to stay in the race. I hope for them that they are prepared for that.
on xbox 360 and ps3.
Steam didn't wipe out physical distribution. Nobody forced companies to stop making physical copies.
Good, I want steam to die because they censored hentai games but allow gay shit
Combating monopoly with an even worse storefront and admitting not caring about the customers is hardly the way to convince customers to go to you instead.
Didn't read lol
Don't get me wrong user, I was all for epic until the exclusives shit. Something like epic is necessary to kick gaben off his fat lazy ass and do something about the flood of shovelware and poor customer communications they've got.
In a perfect world, the competition between valve and epic forces prices down and services up, as each tries their best to be your platform of choice. Holding the games you want hostage instead is shitty, it's the google+ way of doing things.
dumb steam gabe need learn to competing. Epic fine good for compete break monopoly. oh no no no looking at top of head
Too much crap, not enough games. Your game becomes invisible to anyone not searching actively for it mere hours after being published on steam.
Except Valve made the market for physical titles not worth the cost.
Xbox 360.
I agree that steam is doing some shit wrong. Like censorship which has me assmad.
>drm service that wiped out physical distribution and consumer freedom
user, you're flatout retarded if on seriously think this and not blame the publishers that aren't valve who decided to stop spending money on physical copies.
The Netflix and Steam issue clearly shows that competition is NOT always in the favor of the customer.
Physical copies would have died even if Steam never came to be
digital distribution forced physical copies to go extinct
steam IS digital distribution in its purest form
Steam BAD because muh indie dev cut
>ignores retarded review service that denies any game with a school setting
>Terrible voice codecs until the last few years
>GUI bloated and doubles RAM usage every four years to appeal to AppleFags
NOO STOP CHEATING INDIE DEVS
ME JOURNALIST
ME CARE ABOUT INDUSTRY
STOP BULLYING EPIC YOU BIGOTS
There are a lot of reasonable complaints about Steam, but the Useful Idiots screeching literally deserve to get gassed for unironically supporting a Chinese regime currently with several million muslims in concentration camps getting their organs harvested, which may or not be based depending on your personal preference June 4th
With no alternatives physical copies most definitely wouldn't have died, you idiot.
He is completely right, but there is no way I'm going to fall for the chink botnet.
Did they? I see all sorts of anime kawaiboob bullshit when browsing it
No they didn't. Physical titles, while they do cost money, are insignificant in large batches. Once again, nobody forced them to use steam, nobody forced them to stop selling physical.
>consumer freedom
It's kind of hard to say consumers ever had freedom. When I purchased Skyrim for $59.99, it has a slip of paper with a Steam key code. The Steam price was $35.99. I haven't purchased a physical PC game since.
What if you're climbing up a mountain cliff like with pick axes and shit and your buddy is all 'Hey bro I'll race you to the top, I'll totally get there first!' and you're all 'No dude, you have to take it slow and be careful' but he doesn't listen and so he fucks up and falls to his death
PS3
cry harder Winnie the Pooh
you're arguing about a fictional scenario that only ever existed in your head.
This
what about selling games cheaper
Yet good games sell millions without a problem. It's mostly just the trash games with zero marketing that get released and drowned out by the other trash games with no marketing.
Console version do not and have never counted, Valveshits.
Now answer the question. Where is the non Steam version of TF2? You have five minutes.
Digital distribution didn't force anything nigger do you eat paint?
>Spoiler
Pretty much lad. You have retards like the above screeching about something that third parties weren't forced to do instead of giving actual criticism about shit like censorship of titles. Really makes me think.
>ignores retarded review service that denies any game with a school setting
Excuse my french but quoi le fuck? Sources on that?
Taiwan is a free country
Taiwan is not china
chinese people have small dicks and are manlets
chinese women love superior white males
1989 Tienanmen square massacre
free market =/= perfect competition
Before you call others brainless, pick up babbie's first economics textbook.
Exclusives and not better store with better deals. k.
>Where is the non steam version
Xbox 360.
I have never met a Valvefag that wasn't either:
a) a tranny, furry, or some other mentally-ill subhuman including attentionwhores
b) a boomer that thought valve could do no wrong ever ever
c) a poorfag that would rather play poe at 5 fps and stay in 30k queues to be able to make a few euro to buy games on sale that he never plays instead of just getting a real job
I can't wait for Steam to die. But I want Epic to die too.
>it dosnt count because i say so
ok chink
>you're just poor
>i want all games on one console
yeah bro i sound like the poorfag
*enrages your chinese overlords*
>Also is completely oblivious to the fact that this benefits no-one but games already certain to be massively successful and already 100% funded kickstarter projects
Epic cucks are retarded if they think this benefits real indie games struggling to be noticed on steam at all
origin access has the shittiest game search/layout. I didn't even know it had third party games until I accidentally clicked the origin access section.
ofc it forced the physical copy to slowly go away
digital distribution is the most profitable and easy way to get your game to the consumer
no sane dev or publisher will pick a physical copy distribution anymore
How long it must have taken you to type that up in-between sucking all those dicks kek.
I don't care I pirate every game
What about the hundreds of amazing games that never had a shot because they got drowned out? Retard.
Epic shill logic right here, you are really retarded if you believe that.
It's called orange box, retard.
GOG is the closest to Steam and it still sucks and has 0 worthwhile big exclusives
Where's the non-origin version of Titanfall? Where's the epic launcher version of fortnite?
Notice how they're both made by the same company that made the launchers?
>Taiwan is a free country
It is literally a part of China. One state, two systems. Eat shit nigger.
The only way for them to not die would have been the internet technology to not evolve as much as it did when digital distribution took off
Or Netflix killed Blockbuster at the end of '90 too?
Steam just happened to be between the first e-stores to be the one climbing over the corpse of it's brothers, absolute natural selection at it's finest
But Internet accesibility and progress killed physical distribition, not Steam
What marketplace other than Steam lets me buy games without any type of credit card or bank account with my shitty third-worlder currency?
Non-epic launcher*
Sounds like it hit the target, you fucking obsessed degenerate.
Games like..?
>on xbox 360 and ps3.
Metro Exodus was on Xbox One and PS4, so it's all good that it's exclusive to Epic Store on PC. Right?
Right?
Any hentai game set in high school is automatically banned, unless it's gay shit or cuck shit.
Eat shit chink
Taiwan will never be china
>having "epic" in your username
epic boomers xD
God you're a fucking retard.
I don't know any of them BECAUSE THEY WERE FORGOTTEN INSTANTLY AFTER RELEASE BECAUSE STEAM IF FLOODED WITH GARBAGE YOU DUMB FUCKING CUNT
You can meme about Gaben all you want but even if the quality of service of Steam hasn't budged in the past century they're still trying stupid shit that might actually change gaming in the background. In fact if anyone comes up with workable VR in the future I'd put Steam in the top 3 contenders.
Rest of the AAA gaming world is just shitting out remakes and nostalgiatrash and trying to cash in on movie games and fads.
Steam isn't perfect and they will take your money but at least they're not out to destroy themselves to pillage your wallet, leaving only a desolate wasteland of distribution.
EGS is just a joke.
I'd use epic store if they have cheaper prices than steam. If AAA game that costs on steam that costs 60€ on steam would be sold for 50€ on epic (devs get same money because lesser cut either way) there would be not a single reason for me to stay on steam.
The only legit way.
>if they have no choice they will come and buy from the single source it is available
big brain
Actually, it doesn't really if they were smart about it.
Epic is already only taking 12%. That means that the developers get 18% more than on Steam. Well, they could adjust the number so that essentially the devs get 8% more than on Steam (still more profitable) and the last 10% is used as a price cut. Epic's cut is still 12%
For example
Steam:
Price: $59.99
Valve's Cut: $18
Developers: $41.99
Epic:
Price: $59.99
Epic's Cut: $7.20
Developers: $52.79
My Version:
Price: $53.99
Epic's Cut: $7.20
Developers: $46.79
Devs still get more profit than on Steam, Epic gets the same profit, and the price makes it more attractive for consumers. Win-win for everyone.
>Or, y'know, they could actually have competitive prices.
Epic did that with that sale and Steam drones still managed to complain
I'm not a chink, lmao, I just know my history. Taiwan is a part of China and has been historically for millennia. Standing in the way of the Middle-Kingdom is a bad idea. They should submit now while they still can and accept the Mandate of Heaven.
Exclusives are the only reason consoles still exist so yeah, you need them if you want to make it
Sometimes I feel like Gaben pays him money to do shit that makes Gaben to look good.
>Why can’t I get this game developed by the games distributor on another platform, ignoring the physical copies for PC, 360, and PS3
user, I...
No it didn't. Nobody ever forced them to release solely digitally. Their choice. Stop being a retard, nigger.
>I'd use epic store if they have cheaper prices than steam.
Epic did that for like 24 hours, and I got BL3 for $10 off.
>There's amazing games that don't sell on steam because they're buried?
>What games are these
>I don't know lol
You've certainly convinced me.
>I'm not a chink I Just know my history
>My history
>Taiwan has been part of China for a millennia
Hmmm
Did Epic develop Metro Exodus?
Can't wait for Tim Sweeney to be blown the fuck out by GOG.
>being this retarded
Epic literally only buys out games like metro exodus, the outer worlds and borderlands 3. Games that are CERTAIN to be SUCCESSFUL. and if it's not that, it's INDIE GAMES THAT HAVE A FUCK TON OF MONEY ALREADY AND ARE CERTAIN TO SELL.
This benefits literally ZERO real indie games that get swamped in steams marketplace
You can get every Epic exclusive on PS4 and Xbox, too, more or less. Definitely every single one that was in the news with people complaining. Metro, Shenmue, Borderlands - all on Xbox. Go play them and stop crying, you literal fucking NPC for a company that makes mobile games for whales.
are you dense motherfucker?
if a distribution method proofs more reliable and profitable it is the to go method of distribution
everything else is getting disregarded
don't be that stupid person user please
You got that backwards, cringelord
Epic is the one who can't compete - that's literally why they're so desperate
>gifting old indieshit
>spying or users
>shilling online
>bribing streamers
>bribing journos
>bribing devs
Epic's office must be on panic mode
Fucking this. Steam Input and Steam Controller are absolute kino.
While delusional retards like Teenie Weenie are holding games hostage and bribe kike publishers, our based fat fuck Gaben made it possible for snoygoys to properly utilize Dualshock features that are ignores by snoy devs.
Not him but here's an example
>300 copies sold on Steam
Shakedown Hawaii is not a AAA or AA
Would never happen. Publishers would never take the option to make less money when they could be making more money. Any lowered costs on their end won't mean savings for the customers, it just means more money going right into their own pockets.
This, games like, risk of rain 2, mordhau, amid evil and supraland isn't even on epic's store.
>waaaaaaaaaaah how dare somebody challenge my favorite corporation's monopoly stop it right now Tienanmen square massacre reeeeee
I hope you are at the very least on Steam's payroll. Imagine defending multi million dollars corporation on the Internet for free.
Do you eat shit? More profitable != forced you brainless tribal cunt. Go back to building your mud hut, higher thinking obviously isn't for you.
Yes, I know my history is just a way of saying it. I'm eastern European. Only blood in me might be horsefucker, but definitely not Chinese. Nevertheless, China is the greatest civilization in the history of the world and it's bound to rise again (and already is). Best learn Chinese and stop shitposting against Xi. Those social credit points won't earn themselves. It's amusing to me that people that know literally NOTHING about China except EPIC BAD TENCENT BAD dare open their mouths about geopolitics and history.
If they were amazing games they would have sold aka would have got to storefront thanks to the sales aka they wouldn't have drowed
But no "these amazing games" bombed because
a) they were trash
b) the devs couldn't bother do marketing so they blame Steam not doing marketing for them for free
How is Supraland btw? It keeps popping up in my queue all the time.
I can't recall the artist so excuse this babble, but to make a long story short, Steam has a history of certain moderators of Greenlight content jerking around Devs for no fucking reason if their content at the face level is unpalatable. I'm too drunk so hopefully someone else can fill in the blanks later , forgive me for the drunk lmao
The Monster Hunter spinoff game got delayed for a single character who was outwardly 18+ and stacked because of her face not being a wrinkled hag
A game outwardly about stopping an actually harmful pedo with your loyal gang of loli's got stopped because a Steam mod objected to a loliArtist doing the sprites, unironically making Steam support abusing children desu to look good
Huniepop got dunked alongside god knows how many other games till people on twitter complained, whoops!
just the
>algorithm
again being a nameless, blameless entity who allows bigTech to curtail content without reproach
>M-M-MUH CHINESE BOOGIEMAN
And you call over people "useful idiots".
Tencent are a minority share holder, they have no influence. This has been debunked over and over, you are retarded.
Does anyone have pic of this fag with the caption "Sweeney paid for your copy" and "go ahead and pirate, this one's on me, lad" or something to this effect?
>This benefits literally ZERO real indie games that get swamped in steams marketplace
Epic Games is just all around shady. They are offering exclusive deals to the big developers now, but who knows what they would be like if they ever seized control? For how they are acting, it wouldn't be good for consumers, that's for sure.
It has a demo, it's pretty good. Just remember to get rid of the depth of field blur.
People would use EGS if it had parity and lower prices.
But of cource you might as well have flying pigs at that point.
They have to pay up millions for a exclusive anyway
companies are trying to make money
physical copies make less money than online distribution
no one passes up the chance to make more money so no more physical copies
i didn't know you are an actual retard
Lmao, get out of hk you invading bugman
>Tencent literally has two people on Epic's board of directors
>Sweeney himself says they're an influential and important part of Epic
Thanks Tim!
>For how they are acting, it wouldn't be good for consumers, that's for sure.
And how Valve is acting is good for consumers, somehow? Why is it that you weren't this vocal when thousands of games were being gated by Steam when GOG was clearly available? Just eat shit you faggot.
Kek.
>Just because they own 40% of a company, doesn't mean they have any sway in their decisionmaking!
>I love to defend Chinese state firms for free!
Please don't post my onahole wife with such 60IQ shit ever again, thanks!
Which is actually their loss, because iirc Valve prooved that steam sales increase profit.
Cheaper games would mean more people would buy them.
Cheers, Tim.
EGS does have power prices, but only in like two fucking countries. Everywhere else is more expensive to get games from there.
>Tencent are a minority share holder
>Only the sole CEO has more shares than them
They aren't some 3% shareholder, they basically own the company.
>"Why make a platform that can compete by being a good service, when you can just FORCE new customers by not giving them a choice? :)"
So like what Valve did?
>hentai
And where is your gay hentai in a school setting published on steam?
>b) the devs couldn't bother do marketing so they blame Steam not doing marketing for them for free
gets me every fucking time. I'm still laughing.
Based epic boss making sure devs don't go out of business because of my piracy.
They actually made games, you might not know this but the steam launcher started as a way to play their games.
Truly redpilled
>owns the game engine every developer uses
>wants to create the game store every publisher uses
>willing to eat huge temporary losses to drive competitors out of business to cement his monopoly, which is considered a crime in sort parts
>bringing console war to PC and intentionally getting devs to go back to ignoring Linux--a non-Windows operating environment Gaben had actually been providing support towards (Sweeney complains about Windows10 yet does nothing about it)
Sweeney is an autistic hypocrite who wants to cement a chink monopoly for Tencent. but that's fine, since China stole everything not nailed down they just proved it's okay to steal from Timmy Tencent.
5 Yea Forums-bucks has been added to your Fortnite account
not everybody is a brand loyalist, not everybody has over 200 games on steam
if a store existed with a feature parity with steam, but gives better deals because it has a superior more profitable cut for the developers, and cheaper prices for customers, do you REALLY think no one is going to move? really now?
tim swindle has been bragging about his revenue split for what, 7 months now?
here's the reality, hes just using this as an excuse for how shitty how store is and how he's not capable of delivering the cheaper games he promised
>it wouldn't be good for consumers
Neither is steam. They literally let rogue employees ban games they don't like
>giving a shit about Epic "challenging" them when there's no benefit to me using Epic yet
If old games being given away free is all it took to convince you that's cool user, but I need a little bit more
He keeps making it seem like he's just some benevolent guy. He's a business, not a charity, so it's just disingenuous when he tries to spin off his scummy tactics as somehow being about making Steam better.
Epic Store isn't adding value. All it's doing is straight-up rent-seeking. And that sort of console-style tactic doesn't even work well on PC because of the fundamental difference of PC piracy being so much easier than on a walled-garden like a console.
For example, I want to play Outer Worlds because I enjoy Obsidian's RPGs. But I'm not going to use Epic Store. So now I'm just going to pirate it, simple as.
Imagine being this retarded.
Oh boy, a pixel art platformer.
Happens almost never, which game was that again?
>you might not know this but the steam launcher started as a way to play their games
Just like Epic and Origin and Uplay or whatever the fuck it's called. You aren't convincing anyone, shill. It was DRM from day one and tens of thousands were angry about it when HL2 came out, because it was shit then, and it's shit now. And everyone had battle.net (old one) as a far better example of how such a service could work without DRM.
Fuck off chink shill.
>chinkshit still post this but never how the dev got a job to work at Capcom
Square massacre etc....
That's literally the point you stupid nig.
And YOU might not recommend this, but Valve killed the superior WON servers to force people over to Steam - how is that in the consumer interest again?
Feel free to explain how it's different - nobody wanted to use Steam to play Counter Strike
Only kids introduced to Steam through Orange Box/TF2 liked Steam
No bully GOG, it's objectively the best platform, too bad it has no games.
I hate exclusives because it means I can't play the game on 144 fps on my gaming computer.
you retard
Tim is old and busted.
Phil is the new hotness.
Prove me wrong.
I like how he didn't explain shit in that tweet.
''Why do we have exclusives? Because we have exclusives.''
Fantastic logic there, China. Exclusives are anathema to competition. Fucking retards.
How is access to multiplayer DRM? Even now Steam's DRM is some of the least intrusive and you can basically only use it as a dowload client for games that don't use steam servers.
>waaaaahhh why isn’t my game getting preferential treatment
>"What does your store have Timmy?"
>"More money for the publisher, Mr. Consumer, sir"
>"What else does your store have Timmy?
>"More money for the publisher, Mr. Consumer, sir"
>"You've already said that, does it have anything else?"
>"More money for the publisher, Mr. Consumer, sir"
Sweeney is a retarded 5 year old
>too bad it has no games.
Which is why I refuse to use it.
You literally couldn't fucking play unless you were online and connected. Are you retarded? I know you're probably some underage eatshitting maggot, but at least lurk more or look at the evolution of Steam before you talk. People that had no internet or shit internet COULDN'T EVEN REGISTER TO PLAY THE GAME THEY BOUGHT.
This. Back in the day exclusives existed mainly because there were legitimate fundamental differences between platforms that made a game work better on one platform than another. The sort of games you got on Sega Saturn were totally different than the ones seen on N64, and even when games were on multiple consoles, they actually had to be built from the ground up for each, and often ended up significantly different even when they had the same name.
But now? Everything is just PC architecture. Consoles are just OEM PCs with a proprietary OS. There's fundamentally nothing stopping a PS4 game being on Xbone or an Xbone game being on PC, etc. It's all the same shit. And so now exclusives are nothing but bullshit, and only retarded fanboys (aka indoctrinated corporate shills) relish in them.
Troll, there's no way you exist, fuck off to 9fag retard
>Gog is worse than Steam so you shouldn't use it!
>Epic is worse than Steam but you should use it because.......
Nah, that's because you're a cocksucking NPC for Gaben's fat dick. Too bad he only makes mobile games now. It genuinely puts a smile on my face to see Steam poorfags crying about gating after they celebrate that whenever it's done in their favor.
I think he’s having a stroke guys
Use what you want to use, but I'm tired of GOGfags telling me how great that shitty shit is (I have an account for the free games but that's about it.)
Based. I honestly like how uncompromising he is. He's going to destroy Valve and Steam, and it's going to be effortless.
Why is it always the same old song and dance with Tim?
If anything, these past few months have convinced people that Steam actually deserves that 30% cut because apparently from the way Epic continuously fucks up running an international digital storefront is harder than it seems.
Well yeah for Valve games.
Not for other games. A lot of games had online activation back then, and most of their games were multiplayer. And it's not as if the steam service had many problems even early in the day.
Yeah steam does this shit too, calling it "steam sale". It should be permanent difference.
Nigga that's like saying iTunes killed CD sales.
>A lot of games had online activation back then
LOL. WHAT FUCKING GAMES? NAME THEM FAGGOT.
This bait is shit but I'll bite.
If you can access Steam, you can access Epic. Therefore anyone who uses Steam but does not like Epic exclusives does "own" the Epic platform, and thus people who have access to the Epic platform still dislike the exclusives. Therefore, you're fucking retarded.
>trying to bait Gaben into exclusives so you can stand in the same moral low ground despite Steam not needing to do that
bold move Tim
>>Only kids introduced to Steam through Orange Box/TF2 liked Steam
spoken like a true epic shill.
Everyone LOVED steam, it brought all of valves games to the same place so people didn't have to spam their desktop with icons like a retard.
It also offered a friendlist, dedicated servers and all kinds of other things
The only ones who didn't care for it were the piratefags
I don't care about epic games because I don't play new western games
>literally got turned down by the hobo that is nuSNK
Imagine walking up to a game dev
Just imagine
You offer them hundreds of thousands of confirmed copies of sales for exclusivity, they already are in profit due to pre-orders, but they turn you down saying they want to sell a million copies of their niche fighting game that'll be dead by December
This breaks the Sweeney
>The only way to combat the sustainable 70/30 split is by using an unsustainable 88/12 split and spending money to buy exclusives
>keep using fortnite bucks to moneyhat exclusives
>fortnite bucks revenue is going down in double digits compared last year
>gabe still did jackshit and just wank to dota autochess
Tim should offer hats to fucking fortnite zoomers so they buy games in egs
No, but digital distribution did.
I don't think you understand trannies and furfags. They've spent years building their Steam profiles, collecting achievements, cards, and other dumb shit, piling up friends for RPing in their list. They aren't going to leave Steam ever, because for them Steam isn't a distribution service, it's social media, it's their alternative Facebook. And that's exactly why Steam is such fucking cancer.
That image should be reversed
Admittedly, steam did start out pretty shitty. But after the orange box valve finally tried to improve it.
>Epic did that for like 24 hours, and I got BL3 for $10 off.
I bought DMC5 off off GMG for $30 on the day of release
Steam is a natural monopoly, the only good kind.
>Everyone LOVED steam, it brought all of valves games to the same place so people didn't have to spam their desktop with icons like a retard.
Literally no one did, or the vast majority did it not. Stop lying, zoomer, nobody believes you. We were there.
>We're gonna change the whole industry to a lower split!
>The 12/88 split is unsustainable and will inevitably be changed
Which the fuck is it, Tim?
>Valve has plenty of exclusives
>like the games that they developed and fully own
>and...
I don't think anyone will call out Epic for keeping Fortnite exclusive
>No, but digital distribution did.
>piracy is digital distribution
wut
Why do Steamfags always devolve the conversation into
>WWEELL I GOT IT FOR X OR Y!!!1
Yeah, until they stopped caring 2 years later and instead wondered how else to milk money out of people. And you dumb cunts all fell for it and still do.
Gabe Newell isn't the one screeching about Epic on Twitter daily. Valve has said like one thing on this entire ordeal several months ago when Metro Exodus was unjustly stolen.
>Steam has had exclusives like A game they made, A game they made and A game they made.
What is wrong with this man's brain?
Steam is a benevolent dictator. They've tripped over themselves throughout the years but at the end of the day those lazy fucks at least try to do people good.
Oh right, that time they burned bridges with a fuckton of publishers and had to pull several games from their store for weeks on end.
Fuck Valve for their exclusivity deals with Valve.
>when Metro Exodus was unjustly stolen.
Don't really remember much, i know because I used to pirate a lot of them and there were online activation hacks.
Spore comes to mind.
I was there, nobody whined. Absolutely no one.
suck my dick nigger, you can stop lying now.
By the time half-life anthology was released, steam was already widely accepted
Chinese bugmen should be eradicated from the face of the Earth. Pirate all games in Epic store unless you're a complete onions cuck
>Epic forced sites selling Epic keys to match their storefront price
I wonder....truly....
>wiped out physical distribution
This should actually be a goal of everyone in the industry if they don't like censorship. You can't censor what isn't sold in a physical store and digitally sold games have no obligation to be rated.
Quite literally is. You can call it a misnomer if you want, but the digital format certainly ended CDs.
He's too busy making mobile games and making a few more millions off of Russians with the Dota pass and the gacha shit that comes with it. Gabe wouldn't care if every fucking game besides DOTA and CS left Steam.
>Steam has gotten really anti-consumer
>Epic is even more anti-consumer but they're fucking over Steam
>I'M GOING TO SUPPORT EPIC OMG THIS WON'T BACKFIRE AT ALL
>game releases on steam
>I can buy it on any platform I like, and often do because they have better sales
>game releases exclusively on Epic store
>I can't buy it anywhere other than Epic
But Steam is the "monopoly" here, right.
The fact of the matter is that Epic are greedy moneygrubbers. You do NOT compete via exclusivity. Anyone with a degree in business can tell you what actual competition looks like versus what monopoly looks like (they'll also tell you why a company will literally ALWAYS attempt to gain a monopoly, because it's just that profitable)
You have two stores: The Jeans and Shirts store and the Shirts and Jeans store. They are competing for the same customers in the same buyer space. This is monopoly:
>Jeans and Shirts store contacts Jeans, Inc. and gets them to exclusively supply / greatly discount jeans for Jeans and Shirts store
>Shirts and Jeans store becomes Shirts store and gets starved out OR acquires exclusivity on shirts
>End result, either we have one monopolistic company (THE Clothing Store) or two (Shirts store and Jeans store).
This is what competition looks like:
>Jeans and Shirts decides to focus on jeans as a loss-leader. They give great deals on jeans, they acquire a large and varied stock. They don't prevent Shirts and Jeans from getting any jeans.
>The idea is that people will go to Jeans and Shirts, buy some jeans, and pick up some other stuff along the way.
>Shirts and Jeans sees this and decides to do similarly for shirts
Now here's the kicker: This is not a PERMANENT situation. If you buy Jeans at Jeans and Shirts, you will often be paying MORE than you would be at Shirts and Jeans. This is because true competition is primarily based on TIMING. No company called JEANS and Shirts can afford to have jeans on permanent sale. They CAN afford to have random weekly sales on certain pieces of stock, to build a REPUTATION for having good sales on jeans.
>>Steam has gotten really anti-consumer
How?
By offering refunds?
You mean how epic makes their money?
Yeah, a game released WAY FUCKING LATER. Lying dirtbag. Neck yourself.
I did, and so did many other boomers. You're just retarded, or probably a consumerist drone that loves anything big companies throw his way. Either way, die.
Wake me up when Epic panders to /g/entlemen.
steamcommunity.com
Steamdrones BTFO. If steam didn't start exclusive deals with Valve nobody would even though to do that
>Gabe wouldn't care if every fucking game besides DOTA and CS left Steam.
And that's a good thing. Go suck off your Twitter celebrities elsewhere.
>Feel free to explain how it's different - nobody wanted to use Steam to play Counter Strike
show me a time when valve paid to take games away from other platforms to have exclusive distribution rights.
>what is a first party game
>Anyone with a degree in business can tell you what actual competition looks like versus what monopoly looks like
Anyone with a degree in business knows that capitalism is inherently monopolistic unless seriously legislated-against, and so does Tim, which is why he's taking over offensively. Don't talk when you clearly know nothing apart from some 101 theory.
>Valve has exclusives with other companies... like Valve!
>stolen
It's only delayed 6 months on steam. Maybe you will learn from this to never preorder
fuck
Based and weebpilled
Give me anime girls or give me death
They own 40%
Tim Sweeney owns 51%
This makes them a MINORITY share holder you fucking brainlet.
>Tencent literally has two people on Epic's board of directors
Who are still vastly outnumbered.
>Sweeney himself says they're an influential and important part of Epic
No shit, they're an investor, what would literally any business out there say about their investors?
>I don't understand how shares work
You do realize that Tencent have shares in a vast number of western vidya companies, right? You do realize the only ones they've had any influence over are the ones dumb enough do sell out 100% ownership like Riot, right? Admit it, you retards sperging out over China are only doing so because the only legitimate criticisms for the Epic store are in regards to features and functionality, which will all be resolved within 6 months.
>Please don't post my onahole wife
Make me fuckboy.
Why would gog create their own version of cancer?
>Sweeney himself using "ALL EXCLUSIVITY IS THE SAME" arguments
I-Is he gonna start posting Steam Hat Wojaks next?
>mfw the only reason people call steam bad is because it allows games they don't like
are your niggers for real? I saw an user from threads ago get mad over anime games, as if he's forced to play them shits when he logs in.
steam even offers you a lite mode that skips the front page and any game ads you don't want to see. you literally never have to see the shit you don't care about, but because the launcher has them for sale, it's shit?
I could name literally dozens of reasons why epic, orgin, uplay, bnet, MS store and amazon digital are bad, but I really have to think long and hard for steam. even the social media shit I don't like can easily be ignored.
>Go suck off your Twitter celebrities elsewhere
What the fuck does this even mean? Are you honestly brain-damaged?
Yes just like consoles they have the same target audience children with no self control
>Epic buys exclusive rights to games for 6-12 months
>I can't be bothered to download more spyware from Chinks
>See game on Steam 6-12 months later
>Buy it on sale because it's been out so long
Lmao. Thanks Epic.
Imagine being this delusional.
Yeah I bet you were so fucking mad because of the convenience they provided.
The only issue with early valve was the servers / loading times at best.
Feel free to provide me with all those massive negatives you clearly know of since you act like you can talk for hundreds of thousands of early Steam users.
Why isn't he also talking about combating GoG and Uplay and Origin and Bethesda and SquareEnix and third party sellers like the Humble Store or Discord or GMG or Itch or any other not listed?
>Why is a 12% cut not sustainable? What are the expenses they have to sustain?
>Marco Minoli: It’s clear that if you have a store without features, so without search, forums, achievements, your expenses will be low, because the management of such a structure doesn’t require high investments. But if you start to have a structured store, so a series of services for users and a working client, that is, all that Steam has, here’s that the costs increase.
>Same goes for the “hidden” part of the service only developers have access to. Imagine an indipendent team that wants to publish a product: it subscribes, it gets a notification, it enters into its management area and at that point it’s completely alone: there isn’t a physical person to help you. Only a few publishers have a physical person that can deal with the publishing and advertising phase. At this point, since many developers are “forced” to do everything by themselves, the more features, management options and tools the store has, the better the service will be for the developer. Developing these tools, hearing the needs of smaller teams and publishers to make the tools they need has a cost that can hardly be covered by a cut as small as this.
>Therefore, the service Epic is doing now is not for indie developers. After all, they declared thet they’ll allow a maximum of 100 games per year on their store, so they’ll accurately select all of their products: if I’m an indipendent developer, most of the time my only way into the market will still be Steam or indie games distribution sites, like Itch.io and so on.
>Right now Epic is increasing its userbase with high caliber titles that it handsomely pay, with the objective to make its platform grow. It’s a shareable and acceptable strategy, but it shouldn’t be disguised as a service for the community of developers or players.
No problem champ, try out the free full demo in the meantime.
Just like ubisoft, EA, blizzard and epic (fortnite)
Probably bethesta soon aswell
Most people are too stupid to use dream's settings tab to block or filter out anything you don't want. They then wonder why others mock them for being this retarded.
At this point I'm just curious what will happen when the Fortnite money stops rolling in
>massive performance hog
>looked like absolute shit
>couldn't play offline despite being a singleplayer game
>couldn't rent the game to friends
>killed off tons of good servers
Installing Steam for HL2 was absolute unjustifiable asscancer, It was hated as much as Denuvo + EGS combined, but when I started playing TF2 in ~2010 it was already a good services that offered all the useful features like chat, friend list and trading + store with some nice multiplayer games (Alien Swarm, Pirates Vikings & Knights 2).
It was different time though, without any launchers bloat. You were either playing it from Steam or downloading client from official site. And as games started moving to Steam they were still available through standalone clients without any segregation: MWO, Warframe or Tribes: Ascend for example.
Crossplay + competition of exclusive deals on different stores is the way to go.
Fuck Counter-Strike btw.
competition is not always good. Nobody wants to have to juggle around a dozen different launchers because every fucking company wants to do their own thing. There is literally nothing benefiting the consumer in any of this. Epic games store isn't adding any value or differentiating themselves to cater to a niche. They're just flaunting their chink/fortnite money to hold IPs hostage.
Either make it optionally available on steam, or do like GoG and make it DRM-free so I can just play it without a launcher. Don't make me have to deal with all this other bullshit. Steam is bad enough requiring me to log in when I want to play a game, and it used to be really shit when you didn't have an internet connection and couldn't even play your games because you needed to log in to change to offline mode before. But Steam is entrenched as the de facto platform, so I'm willing to accept that program and that program alone. But everyone else needs to fuck right off. Fuck battle.net, fuck origin, fuck uplay, and fuck epic.
>Marco Minoli
L I T E R A L L Y
W H O
It'll also probably be highly discounted when it comes to Steam.
Do you remember Mars One?
Are you retards actually kidding me right now? Remember the post-Netflix fiasco when streaming got splintered to all hell?
Competition caused that. And it wasn't good.
Shirts and Jeans does similar. They acquire a wide selection of shirts and create varied sales events for their shirts. They do not try to starve out Jeans and Shirts - in fact, they INTENTIONALLY time their sales so both stores don't often have the same items on sale at the same times. They both BENEFIT from this competition, because people will tend to shop around. Neither company is PREVENTING the other from acquiring any particular product - they are simply expending their limited resources to acquire a different selection of stock from their competitors.
This style of competition starves nobody out. If a new guy called Jeans and Shoes wants to enter the market, he can. He can slip right into the existing paradigm. If a guy called (Sometimes) Shirts and (Sometimes) Jeans wants to join in and occasionally go on ridiculous clearance discounts, they can. Jeans, Inc. would be happy to sell more product. But if Jeans and Shirts gets an exclusive monopoly on Jeans, nobody can enter that market. It's not possible.
THIS IS HOW CLOTHING STORES IN MALLS ACTUALLY FUCKING OPERATE. You think they fucking kick each other in the nuts until there's only one left? Of fucking course not. Yeah, there are gambits. There are ways you try to make money by taking advantage of problems your opponent is having. You don't particularly care if their business fails. But you aren't outright trying to destroy them.
Epic is being monopolistic. Steam doesn't particularly fucking care. Epic needs to be regulated, Steam is not the bad guy.
>steam
>monopoly
How many again?
>Tencent shills are still trying to shill the failure that was Epic Store
almost sad
>Tfw you own more games on Steam than Epic will have in total on its store five years from now
>Competition caused that. And it wasn't good.
Competition is never good and competition in a "free market" inevitably always results in crony capitalism, which is why we live in a world controlled by a few big companies. Only retards believe in this shit, literal retards.
I wish it was like that.
Most people I know just went back to downloading what they wanted to see and now none of them are making money.
I don't use origin even if it has exclusives Tbh, origin is shit.
You're seriously missing the point of the post, dude. Nobody said things weren't naturally monopolistic. I was just trying to show off the difference between the two.
A lot of people have the misconception that exclusivity IS competition, but it isn't, not properly.
The upside with these sorts of digital distribution clusterfucks is that there's always an alternate: piracy.
But this is also why the entire notion of "steam needs competition!" is a false dilemma. Steam has ALWAYS had competition, because it's always needed to somehow make legitimately buying a game seem more appealing than just torrenting it. I don't know why people never seem to bring up this fact.
>Epic has to manually add each game coming to their store
>there's some sort of limit or cool down where they can only add a certain amount a day or some period
>they declared they only plan to add 100 games per year
What the fuck is going on behind the scenes with this store
Tim Sweeney is an SJW kike, whatever his agenda is it clearly isn't about money. This is political and valve is everything these leftists despise. I sure hope nobody here unironically believes he is crusading for devs.
That guy isnt an ancap
The problem if Disney is they lobby the bodies who provide protections of Intellectual properties to give them monopoly over their properties (while by law they should've lost their monopoly right long ago)
Monopolies rarely form without government intevention
>implying stardew Valley didn't make all the money in the world
>If a new guy called Jeans and Shoes wants to enter the market, he can.
No, he can't. All those goods are made overseas where the companies make them essentially have a neo-colonial hold over the place, and they're competitive and corrupt as fuck. You would not stand a chance.
The reason different stores do sales at different items at different times is because there's usually one megacorp that owns both the stores, you uninformed cuck. How is it possible to live in 2019 and be this stupid and uninformed?
>the competition meme again
Tim is such a fucking tool
EGS is an early access storefront that's in version 0.3 at best. It's released way too early.
>steam
>monopoly
that word doesnt mean what you think it means
I don't because I pirate all my media
And this shit wont affect my enjoyment of my pirated games too
Thanks for keeps paying all the entertainment media for me though
One.
Yeah, because nobody fucking likes EA
Big Fish Games is the only store front you need.
I don't think publishers like that, even if you're eating the cost
Fucking disingenuous fuck. Steam's only exclusives are those that they've made themselves or developers who didn't publish their games elsewhere. Valve didn't force it. And the comparison to Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo is an outright LIE. Yes, they have exclusives... for their CONSOLE. They're not STORES; you can buy Playstation or Nintendo games on any store of your choosing. Epic Games isn't a console, it's an online store. Sure, we use the term "exclusive" in both case but the meaning is completely different. You're not forced to go the Gamestop to buy specific games, you can go to Wal-mart or mom&pop store and so on.
Are their autism simulators any good? Never tried them.
Dunno, don't play these that much, the last one I played was Silent Hunter 4 or 5.
>>massive performance hog
bullshit, even with a fucking toaster computer I never had as single issue
>>looked like absolute shit
I'll give you that one, but were talking about something that was designed like 16 years ago
>>couldn't play offline despite being a singleplayer game
I can't remember when steam got an offline mode or if it was there since the start, but I'll say this is a minor issue considering that by the time steam was a thing, people were mostly playing online games through it to begin with
>>couldn't rent the game to friends
>renting
>pc games
Nice oneif there was a game people wanted they pirated it. This is something console fags cry about
>>killed off tons of good servers
what stopped them from remaking these servers? absolutely nothing
I don't really have a problem with epic and what they are doing but how they try and spin it as pro industry/pro consumer is fucking stupid. Matter of time before we start seeing pro epic game store articles on all the blogs
W-what, these corporations aren't dominating because there's competition. Walmart has its employees apply for welfare while receiving taxpayer money so they can keep their prices super low to prevent competition.
Are the unreal games even sold in ebin store?
>putting your game on egs
tv.streamfabriken.com
Just skip to q&a and see him deflect pc sales of metro exodus
This idea that valve is going to do any adjustments on their part because of the epic store is laughable. They're well known for taking very little action until it's an absolute emergency.
GoG is ok, it's a digital store and doesn't try to be anymore luxurious or fancy.
>GoG is ok, it's a digital store and doesn't try to be anymore luxurious or fancy.
Sounds like Epic
>imagine thinking that the devs will ever see any of that split money
I hope those fortnite devs are enjoying their 80 hour work weeks
Yeah except the prices are worse and Epic does nothing for the video games themselves and spyware probably.
That .gif is legitimately older than some people posting here right now. I remember seeing it back when steam was basically nothing but a shit client for servers. It's older than Yea Forums for fuck's sake.
>yeah goy, steam is bad because they won't share the shekels
kek a lot of Ebin shills in this thread agreeing with each other
Bro you can't take my fucking parking lot microeconomic analogy and turn it into a goddamn macro problem
>is because there's usually one megacorp that owns both the stores
Dude, no they don't. There are like fifteen megacorps involved in clothing and in a given mall there'll be tons of outlets operated by different megas.
>Steam has exclusives such as DOTA 2, Counter-Strike and Portal
Imagine if Epic had exclusives such as Unreal Tournament and Paragon.
Who the fuck asides from the money grubbing faggots that make and publish games even gives a shit about the 70/30 split? The customer is always right, you should try to appeal to them if you want to win people over.
Usually things like that are lost to the ages, but it speaks to the shitness of Steam through the years that its hung around
I have a PC, PS4 and Switch.
BB is an objectively bad game. So is BoTW. So are most MOBAs, RTS and 4x.
You are a poorfag and your opinion isn't worth anything.
>v-valve has exclusives with themselves
>all games except dota 2 are available on consoles
>Monopolies rarely form without government intevention
the main form of monopoly that can form without government is anything involving network effects, where the larger the userbase, the more value it has and the more people join it, making it larger, giving it more value, etc.
This is why WoW was dominant for so many years and nobody could touch it. Because an MMO lives or dies by its playerbase, and it's a better choice for an individual consumer to choose WoW over another up-and-coming MMO, because the unestablished MMO could end up dying like all the others from lack of players.
Same is true of social media platforms. Nobody uses shit like Minds over Faceberg because nobody else uses it. It's a feedback loop that leads to monopoly. And while these companies are often in bed with regulators, that doesn't change this fact.
because of the small amount of good indies gets bogged down by the 99% that are complete dumpster fire that makes up all indie games
Reminder.
>the only time Valve visibly reacted to Epic was when Exodus got pulled for good reason
>they haven't said anything ever since
Fuck. Literally Riot announcing their new Autochess and the Ubuntu fiasco this week got Valve to move faster than Epic ever did.
VALVE GIVES SO LITTLE SHIT ABOUT EPIC THAT THEY EVEN FUCKING MADE AN INCREDIBLY DUMB GIMMICK FOR THEIR SHIT SALE JUST BECAUSE
THIS IS HOW LITTLE FUCKS THEY GIVE
>Console exclusives pulling people
haha no
The only console that actually uses exclusives to attract people is Nintendo.
When it comes to Xbox and Playstation, they have always competed on which one offered the better or more well-advertised level of service.
Worldwide, the 360 won over the PS3, and the PS4 won over the Xbone. Playstation always wins in Japan because it's Japan and they DO actually have a shitload of exclusives that never make it out of their country (said exclusives were not bought out, they just made them for the PS). They're both Call of Duty/Netflix machines otherwise.
Exclusives to a platform causes a LACK of competition and a rise in anti-consumer environment. Instead of the platforms working to provide better service, they sit on their asses and let the games do the competing for them. I want the games alone to compete against one another, not compete for the benefit of the physical/digital box I have to get to play it.
The 1983 crash happened because a dozen different consoles popped up and they all offered shit.
There will never be another "crash", but just as we already see the disgruntled masses getting pissed that there are now several dozen HBO/Netflix-wannabes fighting over exclusives, there are already a lot of people pissed that Epic is going this way in buying out exclusives. All it will do is lead to way more piracy (customers becoming non-customers so they can get everything on a "single platform").
Shit bros, I didn't knew Steam had exclusive Valve games
He might have had a better shot if he didn't release his game during a major holiday sale, where that holiday is Halloween, which means everyone and their dogs are going to be putting up shitty low effort """horror""" games.
user stop posting talking points. Re-read the pamphlet on how to blend in when shilling for companies then come back and try again. We don't even have post IDs and you still sound like a paid influencer.
Yeah, I don't like how they keep trying to normalize this by comparing online stores to consoles.
This isn't like a nintendo exclusive. It's like saying Walmart paid off a company to only sell their games at Walmart stores, so everyone has to go to Walmart now.
then how did Game pass literally gain a massive following without exclusives?
If Epic had 1:1 feature parity with Steam and wasn't sucking China's massive Tianamen dick then nobody would be complaining about them having exclusives
They are getting lambasted (and rightly so) over trying to force people to use a plainly inferior store that still isn't fucking complete yet because they're trying to abuse Fortnite-bux while they can. If they had a complete shop that was on par with or even better than Steam's then this wouldn't be an issue.
>Unreal Tournament and Paragon
I'm still mad UTbros...
Yeah probably, though I haven't seen it in well over a decade myself. To me its more like someone blew the dust off some school yearbook memes.
There people retarded enough to use the epic store?
Impressive
>Tencent shills are obsessed with this image and post it in every EGS thread
Why? Has finding a still from a banned movie in your government supplied reaction image folder given you a taste of freedom?
China has been generous.
Yeah and how do you break up a monopoly? By offering a better deal to your CUSTOMERS than the competition. Not by taking away products from other stores and FORCE customers to come to you. That is LITERALLY buying the ball from whoever brought it and charging everyone who wants to play with it.
Time Sweeney unironically thinks Steam currently only sells their own games. He's a complete retard.
That is the overall problem with valve though, their constant and absolute apathy. Steam does have its issues, and I wish Gaben would get off his fat ass and stop being so laissez faire about everything. Especially when it comes to all the trash shovelware indie games clogging up their platform, with their only stance being "lol caveat emptor :^)"
So you agree? Your "counter arguments" actually strengthen my own point.
based
No way this screen is real
I miss when pc gaming was dead. Can we go back to that? I'll take the 2004 flavour, the 2008, hell in a pinch I'll take 2014. Anything is better than seeing my brothers fall for the brand war meme.
>I don't want to make a good service or reward the consumer, I just want to beat Steam.
Holy shit he's in total denial mode
>valve no longer makes games because their cashflow is steam now
>poor storefront regulation
>panders to chinks becausd they are now the largest customer group on steam
>events and contests are driven by cash spent instead of hours played or skill
I'm somewhat of a steam fanboy and even I can recognize these problems
Lmao please tell me you don't shill this hard for free
INTELLECTUAL monopolies require some sort of enforcement body (although that can easily be privatized). Anyone can draw Mickey Mouse and distribute a video of him. Anyone can make a home movie called "The Avengers". Disney's entertainment monopoly is created by the existence of IP rights, that's all true.
But physical monopolies are trivially easy to create without any form of government intervention. You can acquire a monopoly on a physical resource just by controlling the entire supply of it, because there's a limited amount of throughput and it all has to come from somewhere as opposed to a picture of Mickey Mouse which can be created out of basically anything.
Except there always was competition. Keys were coming directly from publishers, plenty of games were released on gog, origin, uplay, windows store and other digital distribution platforms you've never heard of, not even counting exclusive gated platforms like battle net. Did you use them? Are you aware there's like a dozen or more of digital distribution platforms? No? Why not? Why did you perpetuate the myth that steam was a pure monopoly? It wasn't, it was just better. It is monopoly for plenty of games but it's there cause it was a compromise for everyone: publishers, consumers and devs. EGS is not a compromise, hell they even advertise themselves as not a compromise.
he's not retarded, he knows exactly what he's doing
>were only making the gamers suffer so that we can help steam become the best it can be
holy shit please tell me you guys arent falling for this!?
What happened to hating the walled garden approach Tim?
The savings will TrIcKlE dOwN bro! Aany day now.
I've noticed this too.
>wtf stop PAYING ATTENTION TO WHO OWNS WHO ONLY RIOT IS BAD
>WE'LL HAVE A SUCCESSFUL SHOPPING CART ON OUR DIGITAL STOREFRONT IN HALF A YEAR
Imagine actually defending the lead garbage dev these days. A dev that abandoned all their other products to chase BR skin shekels.
Chinese phobia is also well to be followed given they literally killed 70million over a few sparrows and pig metal mistakes. Then rolled over some stupid college students in tanks until they could be washed down gutters
And yeah stop posting her. Dicklets posting Megumin are fucking pathetic since they can't even fill out a cunny begging for explosions
Nobody is falling for it save for a handful of idiots who come from Fortnite and have misguided brand loyalty.
It really is baffling how much of a tizzy the gaming community is that there's another alternative to steam.
Like jesus actually getting this pissy over a different platform when they're both on PC.
Post all the smug anime girls you want, but anyone who posts multiple paragraphs defending a brand is clearly butthurt.
Why has no one mentioned GoG is drm free?
That alone makes it infinitely better than steam or epic
When has Steam ever tried to stifle its competition? If Steam was an actual monopoly GOG would have been dead years ago.
>C-CH-CHINKS!!!1
How come Steam drones have such non arguments?
He is correct in saying that the only way a new store can compete with Steam is if it has a significant difference in offered games, all other "benefits" or "features" a new store can offer are marginal additions, at best.
i think you're intentionally distorting the reasons why people are mad
>"Great leaders who are driving Windows forward as an open platform"
>Runs a store that forces devs to make their games exclusive to it
People get mad for really stupid reasons and often need stupid reasons to justify their anger
technically they did bought out the people who had the idea
what's wrong is that they're pc exclusives, the orange box had console ports
Oh right "exclusives"
You know shit you can still fucking play on PC.
I could see a platform taking over with a vastly different social approach.
Other than that yeah it would be up to the actual games.
>alternative to steam
It's not an "alternative". I can't choose to buy Metro Exodus on Steam.
Why is Tim so aggressive on twitter lately? Is EGS really doing that bad?
>that forces devs to make their games exclusive to it
You know they accepted the deals with Epic Store, right?
It's not an argument, just an observation.
No, you know why people are mad and you're pretending that you don't.
This. Everyone sees through his bullshit, but his disingenuousness is a tactic. It's all carefully crafted in an attempt to make it seem like he's some crusader for justice. He's trying to help YOU out, goy/gweilo!
Off my chair, jester. The king sits there
He takes the Randy approach to social marketing.
An observation that makes you look like a retard, yes.
Save your ebin observations for I,Spy books, Steam shill
>dude just undercut the monopoly lmao
incredible... he just solved the nation's ISP issues.........
They need some good PR after the complete garbage fire that their sale was.
>store doesn't even have a fucking shopping cart
>WOOOOW WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO MAD THAT YOU'RE BEING FORCED TO USE THE STORE STOP ASKING QUESTIONS AND JUST CONSUME PRODUCT
Isn't he wrong? Yes exclusives will bring people to buy that particular exclusive on your store. But everyone will still return to buying non-exclusives on steam. The actual best way to make people flip is simply offer games at cheaper prices.
Why do you need to "compete" with Steam?
Answer: Because you're a greedy fuck who wants a slice of the pie. You have no interest in actually creating a new niche, like Humble or GoG do. You just want to take business away from another company and make the consumer's experience worse while you're doing it.
If Epic showed up and went "hey guys, buying shit on our store will give you 1% equivalent value in Fortnite money", that's fucking competing, that's creating something new, carving out a niche for yourself. Just outright trying to steal market share by throwing around huge wads of cash to make up for your VASTLY inferior storefront is not fucking worth anything to me, the consumer.
Hear me out Yea Forums.
Epic should have been a benevolent publisher first. No game store shilling. Just being nice dudes using their Fortnite money to help out a variety of devs especially ones using UE4.
THEN after a year or two of building goodwill and a hefty amount of games they go do the EGS with games that THEY published.
How is this not the perfect plan? They're essentially doing the same thing with those exclusivity deals anyway but this time they won't look as bad.
I really struck a nerve didn't I? I'm a GoGfag
>BEING FORCED
Grow up, retard
Steam drones aren't used to their lord and master talking, so they think everyone is as silent as Gaben:
i do agree with Tim: exclusives are going to be the main way to create alternatives to Steam.
but i still like what GoG is attempting more. and given how i don't want the hassle of managing multiple launchers, especially shady chinky ones with less features, he won't have my help for this battle anytime soon.
it baffles me how much they are fucking their reputation up by screwing with kickstarter backers...they should offer to pay for refunds and offer KS backers steam copies instead of blowing everything up like they did with shenmue.
i think they could get more out of the money they are spending instead of behaving as a Disney Archvillain.
I won't call it good but I do consider digital services utility tier in necessity
they don't have faith that fortnite money lasts that long I guess
I mean, that's essentially what Valve did.
that's long term thinking
fortnite isn't infinite, they need to cash in NOW
>buying multiple games at the same time instead of just taking your time with each game individually and then moving onto the next game.
No. Nintendo exclusives are first party titles, ones that Nintendo themselves made. They don't compete against the other two consoles over third party titles nor over level of service (which shows, their service is garbage); they are literally off in their own universe. If you want "Nintendo games" you get the Nintendo box.
Similarly, If you want a Tom Clancy game on PC, you get UPlay because Ubisoft made the game.
If you want Battlefield, you use Origin. EA made it.
Meanwhile, if you want... Call of Duty on console, you pick the current gen favorite between xbox/PS.
If you want some independent third party title on PC, you can very likely get it from several PC storefronts.
But if you want Shenmue 3 you have to use Epic, not because Epic made the game, but because they bought exclusive rights to it.
It'd still look bad if they pulled games off Steam to sell exclusively on EGS.
Besides, big Chinese companies don't give a shit about appearances or consumer choice. They just want to force you to buy shit from them by giving away more money than any sane developer could refuse.
>their
No, not really.
Also Valve did paid mods before Bethesda knew what mods were.
>exclusives are going to be the main way to create alternatives to Steam.
But there are like 10+ alternatives to Steam and they've all done just fine without exclusives.
Are you somehow disputing the ownership Valve has over those games?
It did have a rocky start engine-wise but it eventually worked out.
> Your game becomes invisible to anyone not searching actively for it mere hours after being published on steam.
i'm not a developer, loser. stop relying on the news paper to advertise your game. buy ad space and put your product on more multimedia sites. i bet you when cyber punk comes out, the front banner store page is gonna be a giant keanu reeves banner saying buy now for at least a week.
>muh mods else you are shit
Fucking retard
That still sounds like exclusivity as a selling point for your platform.
>going full retard
>doing well
citation needed, no way twitch store or discord store is actually making a profit instead of being propped up by their main business
ISPs carved up the US and stay out of each others districts to allow them to do what they want. Valve doesn't have exclusive contracts with anyone.
What did Valve do?
>pic could have 1:1 feature parity with Steam and nobody would use it
This is the absolute truth that Yea Forums doesn't want to admit.
I just buy all multiplayer games on G2A now.
There's a lot more missing from GOG versions of some games than just mods.
docs.google.com
Sweeney doesn't care what the plebeian (consumer) thinks about what he is doing.
how is it not an argument when tencent is arguably the biggest cancer infesting videogame industry right after sjw?
Gog isn't making any profit as well. 2000$ in 2018 lol
Meanwhile valve; 3 000 000 000 each year. VALVE CAN"T OFFER LOWER CUT, 30% IS ALREADY LOW. FORUMS ARE EXPENSIVE AND CAN TAKE UP TO 15% ADDITIONAL REVENUE, THEY CAN"T LOWER IT
I agree, Epic's mission statement is vacuous.
>FFXV is on Steam
oh the irony
Started off as a game dev, got a lot of good will by supporting fans and their projects and publishing indie devs' games like portal and L4D. Valve had a fuckton of good will from consumers. Less so these days though, simply because they don't bother making games and because they've gotten complacent with Steam.
>he's never watched documentaries or even tv shows where in corporate decision making, theres ways of swaying people on the board to your side, either by blackmail, wining and dining, quid pro quo, aligned interest, ect ect.
People had their accounts locked for doing that.
When is Epic going to get Japanese games that aren't complete fuck ups done by western publishers?
A games released on pc is on a store that had monopoly over pc for a couple of years. Truly ironic mr ledditor
Not that user, but shit man why didn't you tell me that Epic funded Shenmue? (or for that matter, why didn't epic?)
>40% ownership of Epic
>massive influxes of chink money
>"lol they're just a minority shareholder they have zero influence"
kys epicshill
When they get a shopping cart.
>REEEEEEEEEE JUST LOWER YOUR CUT ALREADY
Because there are these things called sales where you buy games when they have reduced prices even if you're not going to immediately play them.
i'm 90 percent sure, Epic is paying very handsomely the price of denuveo for every exclusive they secure. and will easily keep up the license protection.
It's just a Megaman clone though. 300 copies sold is pretty good for a clone game.
This makes me wonder though. Why is Epic only ever targeting Steam?
Why aren't they trying to smear literally everyone else who also take a 30% cut?
Because it was a Kickstarter project. I am willing to bet they ran out of money, and Epic came offering more dough in exchange for their exclusivity. 6 million dollars is a paltry amount of money.
The damage is already done, the PC platform is somehow going to be worse than consoles if you aren't pirating.
Exclusivity isn't actual competition since the other guys literally don't have an equivalent product. If I want to buy apples there are supermarkets that can both sell apples and when I choose a certain one, the others will try and better their product by making it cheap or offering better apples.
Same goes for phones, say what you want about them but even the phone industry competes by trying to innovate their phones in the hopes that customers buy them. This isn't the case with Steam and Epic.
If I want a game chances are only one of them owns them, and it doesn't matter how awful that particular store is as long as there's no other store with the same game I'm forced to keep coming back this stinking store for more exclusives.
Exclusivity only worsens both storefronts since it's technically unnecessary to attract a customer because the game does it for you. Sweeney is right in the sense that viably Steam can only be kicked from their psuedo-monopoly by forcing exclusivity but it's guaranteed that this won't have any benefits for the actual customer
tl;dr Exclusivity is shit for the customer but great for storefronts since they won't have to put effort into competing and attracting customers with extra bells and whistles and QoL changes, cucking Steam by forcing exclusivity is a viable way to knock them from first place but it won't improve the PC market in any way.
Does anyone even buy this though? Tim claims that his whole mission behind EGS is to get Valve to lower their price cut. But if Valve actually did that, does ANYONE really believe that EGS is going to stop using exclusivity deals and other scummy tactics to get an artificial edge over Steam? No, of fucking course not. Because his goal is to just make money and eat up more market share, he's not some Good Guy fighting the good fight for the rest of us.
You can argue about the extent at which they use exclusives but the claim that Sony and Microsoft don't use exclusives at all to attract people makes no sense. Why do they have exclusives then? The reason I bought a ps4 was bloodborne. Since then the only games I've played on the ps4 have been exclusives. I own a pc so I have no reason to play multiplats on the ps4. Sure there are people who don't own a pc and for them the situation might be different but even then exclusives are a part of the decision.
they hated him because he told the truth
>hurr durr why would you need a basic feature that has been implemented on all online shopping stores
>Implying maintaing a massive digital service like steam is anywhere near cheap at this point
I wipe my ass with denuvo, even less reason to buy such games. I'm not a high-time-preference nigger who needs to play a game ASAP upon launch. That's certainly not going to get me to install epic store.
There's only 1 Epic store exclusive game I want, and it will be on Steam in December anyway.
No. With their revenue split, Epic can crush Steam in a couple years by simply passing the savings to the consumer. Imagine every new game launching at 18% off because the creators still get the same money.
Steam would never be able to compete.
You know why Sweeny would never do this? Even though he constantly whines about the revenue split?
Because he's greedy as fuck and full of shit when he says he's protecting the consumer. He wants to dominate storefronts not because he has an ethical plan but because he wants to suck money out of that market share.
You as a consumer will see no benefit from this, only companies will.
% ownership of Epic
try 48%
They're intentionally keeping it a few % below half so they can camoflage Epic as "an all american company", though in truth they have much more influence because Tim is just a puppet for chinese tradewar
Game journalists are dumb enough to believe him which means they'll try and push this shit as much as possible. People who don't care much about PC gaming and are primarily consoletards also believe him.
Source;dude trust me
>Does anyone even buy this though?
No, of course they are doing for profits, its just low IQ retards that feel like someone competing with muh God Gaben should have moral argument or some stupid shit. If steam does not want to lose on exclusives it should lower the fucking cut.
40% is fucking huge. Epic has to play ball because losing some of that 40% would fuck them completely
Anno?
>A dev that abandoned all their other products to chase BR skin shekels.
Unreal engine is their core product and always has been, good job showing you have no fucking clue what you're talking about.
>Chinese phobia
So you can at least admit you're irrationally afraid of something that has no bearing on the subject. Again, good job showing what a retard you are.
>And yeah stop posting her.
No arguements, only butt-hurt whining. I'll keep posting her, you're too much of a fucking embarrassment to be worthy of her anyway.
Why would the no DRM store create a DRM?
Steam already goes lower than 30, where have you been? Their cut had always been really flexible.
You have no fucking idea how business work.
Not only that, but Epic is incredibly confident that Valve WON'T lower their cut - that's why they're going in so heavily on the 12% rate as a marketing ploy. They KNOW that they will not succeed at lowering the Valve cut or the industry standard in any way. They KNOW that their entire "mission" is pointless, and is just being used as a way to get devs and consumers on their side.
They're COUNTING on it, because 1. their entire strategy falls apart if they actually do enact change and 2. they're going to fucking use it as an excuse to increase their cut or keep offering exclusivity deals later on. Remember Tim going "hey the exclusives stop when you lower the cut"? So the implication there is that Epic is """""justified""""" in buying exclusives if Valve doesn't lower the cut. So if Valve doesn't lower the cut, Epic is going to "get" to KEEP fucking doing the scummy exclusive thing.
It's all just a fucking ploy. They don't think they're going to get 12% implemented on Steam. They don't even WANT it implemented on Steam.
Except that's not what I said, faggot. Obviously businesses are for-profit and that's their goal. What I don't like is when they try to pretend that they're not. And this is one such example. Oh yeah, Tim is all about improving Steam, that's his goal. Yeah right, fuck off with that shit.
And of course I agree Steam should lower its cut. Steam has a ton of its own problems and Gabe is a lazy fat fuck who can't be assed to get off his lazyboy chair and clean up Steam. But that doesn't change the fact that Tim is a fucking snake trying to mask himself as some kind of hero.
Their profits prove otherwise.
Yeah, it always was very flexible. For big publishers.
>If steam does not want to lose on exclusives it should lower the fucking cut
It's never about the cut. EA stopped putting their games on steam because of disagreements with valve on DLC. Ubisoft wants to expand Uplay and Bethesda wants to control their games modding scene.
Well yeah. why just 1 to 1, offer 1.1 to 1
All you have to do is google "48% tencent epic "
and you'd know.
I can't blame you for being retarded but I won't go ahead and link shit to your lazy nigger ass
Too bad Bethesda were pussy bitches that immediately came crawling back to steam.
substitutes are good for the consumers, dumbass
read a book for once
Valve profits are used for experimenting with hardware for years and funding Linux support.
Tencent owns 48.4 percent you lazy chink fuck
Because we have to chase him. Because he's the hero Pc gaming industry deserves, but not the one it needs right now, so we'll hunt him. Because he can take it, because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a competition-driven knight.
you are a retarded tranny
>losing some of that 40% would fuck them completely
Thanks for showing you're completely clueless.
Epic has been throwing millions around, perhaps billions not just on building the Epic store but on funding Indie games with no-strings-attached grants, struggling developers and even philanthropic environmental projects.
I don't think you quite understand the resources at their disposal, they have a war chest that rivals Nintendo's, perhaps even eclipses is.
Do you know why people buy shares in companies? To make money off of it. If Tencent suddenly decided to sell their shares (which they have no reason to) this is Epic games we're talking about. One of the biggest players in the most profitable entertainment industry on the planet. They'll have new buyers lining up the moment even a rumor of shares being up for sale gets out.
>tim backtracked about when he said he won't be buying more exclusive
>thinks he just simply wouldn't do the same about the revenue split
delusion of the highest order
Aren't there laws about anti-competitive practices? Because he's basically admitting that those are all he wants to do.
Plus the whole getting hired by capcom because of it going
>Tencent acquired approximately 48.4% of Epic then issued share capital, equating to 40% of total Epic — inclusive of both stock and employee stock options, for $330 million in June 2012. Tencent Holdings has the right to nominate directors to the board of Epic Games and thus counts as an associate of the Group.[3]
Not him but there's a source linked on Wikipedia. Tencent owns 48.4% of epic shares which is equivalent to 40% of the total company value.
It doesn't matter anyway though, since even with 40% they were the ones who elected the board of directors.
But that's Phil Spencer.
I will give him credit that he at least admits that that is the strategy they're using, and he's not being a little bitch by trying to weasel his way around it
Imagine, all this shit-flinging and store wars over anons on Yea Forums being physically incapable of moving their mouse cursor over to another icon and double-clicking it. What a fucking world we live in
Steam is the industry leader for digital games stores. Epic wants to push them out of the market so they can take that spot.
"In June 2012, Tencent made a minority investment in Epic Games, purchasing approximately 48.4 percent of outstanding shares of Epic stock, equating to 40 percent of total Epic capital inclusive of both stock and employee stock options"
Fucking nigers trying to argue with a true human. Good luck next time lazy fucks
>timmy is a proven hypocrite who constantly goes back on his word
>hurr durr just lower the cut bro he will totally honor his words
>buying games
oh no
It's similar to eceleb youtube drama, where a smaller channel will start talking shit about some larger channel that gets lots of views, in the hopes of leeching off some of those viewers. Punch the big guy, ignore the other smaller guys. Attention whoring 101
>Oh yeah, Tim is all about improving Steam, that's his goal. Yeah right, fuck off with that shit.
You are a retard for even thinking for a second that this is something worthy of discussing, of course its all horseshit, of course he is just signaling and no one believes that shit. Congrats you figure it out now go claim your above 70IQ medal cuz u so smart.
>fuck counter strike
LMAO @ ur life, tf nigger.
What's your argument? Somethign is obvious, therefore it should never be mentioned? Fuck off
>they were the ones who elected the board of directors.
Wow that's a fucking reach, you even stated in your own source that they only get to NOMINATE directors, you fucking brainlet.
There are only currently 2 Tencent members on the board, they are easily out-voted. They can only pitch in suggestions and vote on motions, they don't even have a shred of the weight the core Epic members do.
Way to prove you're a retard who doesn't understand business.
No wonder your stuck in a shitty chink factory tapping a few smartphone screens
tim is just doing what he has to do. He's not a hero, but he's pretty based
Fuck Valve, I hope every single of their employees suffer great misfortune and suffering.
If Valve ever wants a degree of respect back from me, they need to prove themselves worthy of it by willingly wasting millions of money to secure exclusives.
haha silly yelling white man
seething
neither is yours
>That is LITERALLY buying the ball from whoever brought it and charging everyone who wants to play with it
that is such a retarded analogy holy shit
>posting the chinese pasta now gets you autobanned
fuck chinks and fuck jannies
But that applies to indie, self-published devs and ONLY those.
>all these posts arguing that exclusive sale rights of a product is an example of competition
>exclusive
>competition
I can't fucking belive that a retarted 15 years old kid on Yea Forums told me that i don't understand business. What a time to be alive
No it's not. It's classic rent-seeking behavior.
They're all consolefag zoomers whose only taste of PC gaming is fortnite.
Epic doesn't get to decide how much games cost. They can recommend lower prices certainly, but that aren't allowed to just drop everything to a dollar and eat the extra costs themselves, which is an actual strategy monopolies used to do.
This is why the epic sale was such a disaster for epic's relationships with publishers.
You guys are right, how bizarre.
the analogy would only make sense if steam was giving a game away for free and epic bought it to make it not free
You're right. Every store, brand and company should be abolished. Everything should be the same generic blob offered to everyone and everyone is enforced to purchased said generic blob at the same generic price. All proceeds skip manufacturers and instead go straight to your local government. Everyone should work for free and claim no rights to the property they make. It all belongs to the government. YOU belong to the government.
>Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo all have exclusives on their respective platforms
>Nobody would deny they are competitors
>Nobody would deny this is competition
>Epic has some exclusive games that Steam does not
>THIS IS NOT COMPETITION REEEEEEEE SWEENEY WEENIE IS A MEANIE
holy shit you are dumb
>taking away products
no such thing, it's like saying the soda industry is a monopoly because pepsico can't sell coca cola
imagine being this dumb
These publishers will be groveling and begging for Epic to take them back when Steam dies next year and Epic emerges as the king of PC gaming.
Wait, pepsi can't sell coca cola? THAT"S IT REDDIT, WE ARE GOING TO WAR FOR CUSTOMER RIGHS AGAINST PEPSI
The analogy is regarding the game and the store front, not the game and the consumer. The store front used to be able to get the games for free, now they're being paid off to withhold access to other stores.
>manufacturers are stores
>food analogy
Nintendo games are exclusively played on Nintendo consoles, but they are not exclusively sold at Nintendo's stores.
>Nobody would deny this is competition
No, I would. Not for like, Uncharted or Mario or Halo, because those are actually made by the companies and if they choose not to give another company money to distribute when they have a perfectly good distribution platform themselves, that's a valid business decision.
But when Sony shells out money to get fucking, I don't know, what exclusive did they buy recently? Either way, I still see it as anti-competitive.
And more importantly, there IS a difference between console versions of the same fucking game. You have to optimize differently, take into account their specs, make it look as good as you can for a fixed spec. But with digital storefronts, it doesn't matter. Steam or Epic, they're selling you the same fucking thing, the PC version.
Pssst hey kid. Wanna know a secret? You can access those "exclusive" games by moving your mouse cursor over two pixels and double-clicking on the Epic Game Store icon.
I love Neptune!
Man all this guy has to do is rattle off a wall of text once a week and he gets free advertising on every gaming news site instantly
If you're anti-epic, you're the cancer killing video games.
Good, the industry is fucking trash. Let it all burn.
>sony, microsoft and nintendo fund and develop their own games and make them exclusive to their platforms
>epic doesn't, just simply pays to distribute games they had no involvement in for a year
trying to pass what epic is doing is the same as console manufactures is fucking hilarious, but i expect no less from a wojak poster
>costco has an absolute monopoly on distributing this one granola bar!
>to defeat this monopoly, now walmart has an absolute monopoly on distributing this one granola bar!
An example of pro-consumer competition - by Yea Forums
As I said, the analogy is regarding the stores, not the consumers. lrn2read.
also
>10 yuan has been deposited into your account
Fuck off retard.
You're not being forced to use Epic, or by your same logic, we're being forced to use Steam to play Steam exclusives like Dark Souls
Satisfactory
>Steam buys exclusive rights to games and indie titles as well as holds dominion over distribution
This is okay
>Epic Game Store outbuys Steam on exclusives to offer in their store just to have a fair shake
W-what the fuck?!?! Guys, this is illegal! We must do something!
Not to mention that console makers got a ton of flak as well when they were pulling similar tactics. For example, wasn't it so that one of those newer Tomb Raider games got delayed on certain platforms because one of them (not sure if sony or MS, I forget) paid for timed exclusivity?
based
New thread
Valve are hypocrites. They whine about exclusives while hoarding all of the games to themselves and not letting any of their own games be sold on Epic Games Store. I don't see a Half-Life anywhere on EGS, making Valve hypocrites by default.
I don't get it, who's the entity that was benefiting from the freeness that I'm supposed to feel bad for?
>Steam buys exclusive rights to games and indie titles as well as holds dominion over distribution
surely you have proofs to back up that claim
steam is the walmart, sweetie
there are 2 big stores now
t. retard.
All of this is stupid. Steam won't survive for much longer, there is nothing we can do about it to change that. Just move on and start collecting games on EGS already
