Why did Blizzard let Overwatch fail?

Why did Blizzard let Overwatch fail?

I mean that's what happened isn't it, they COULD'VE not abandoned it and it did have potential, but for some reason they completely stopped putting in effort after the Ana/Eichenwalde updates. Even the things people say they did focus on, like the lootboxes and the League, because they're the things that make money after people buy the game, were done on a bare minimum level, and now people are complaining about rehashed events and the League is failing, viewership numbers inflated beyond measure by the rewards system.

I mean how hard or expensive can it be? Devs make entire expansions and sell them for $10 - $15, is 3 heroes and 3 maps, and the same 6 events every year really all Blizzard can afford to do, or did they seriously just not give a fuck?

im not a blizzboy and have never played it. but how has it 'failed' i see this all the time.

They didn't shut it down?
They didn't stop dev?

Is this just 'muh sjw' rant all over again?

>2 consecutive esports of the year award
>fail
Okay?

They fell for the eSports meme, and balanced the game around that

I don't really care to play anymore but OWL is still comfy. Last weeks games were fucking excellent.

Every single blizzard employee currently works on mobile games. Blizzard knows WoW is dead and they want to cash in on the chinese mobile market to rescue the company

>Blizzard games before
>humble production and ambition, turns out to be a gigantic decade-spanning, industry-changing success

>Blizzard game now
>huge production and ambition, tons of pre-release pomp, promises everything and more, turns out to be a flavor of the month game quickly unseated by a different genre

Id say both HoTS & OW are very interesting takes on both Genres. Sure they didn't work out, especially in the case of HoTs. But at least they are trying unlike Valve

Blizzard kept trying to force ow's success instead of letting it grow on its own.

The game's ruin was apparent when the first Summer event hit and there were no titty skins

It died because they're only thinking about fucking e-sports instead of fixing the clusterfuck they started with brigitte
Any reason why they only add women and black buff dudes since the release of the game?

>Winner of the most meaningless category award
Even the eceleb of the year category has more merit, if only for the fact they probably make more money and generate more interest in the medium.

I can't complain, but I wanted something like this for Mercy, not those fucking thot outfits shitbra and widowbitch got

Pretty much they're bleeding money with OWL and the development of OW post release has not been worth the cost as there is no room for expansions as there is no campaign since it is a arena shooter knockoff.

Game has fundamentally broken design. It is supposed to encourage switching characters to counter enemy team comps but doing so resets your ult charge to zero, which is the most important resource in the game. They also keep reworking characters and just making them generic DPS characters.

>clock time
us gamers amirite

OWL is a huge scam, half the viewcount is bots, the finance team lied to buyers about how much adspace was selling for is worth, people are leaving the game in droves and whenver that happens they turn a new character gay to bring some eyes back to the property. It's pathetic.

Hammond

All the viewercount has to be bots. I refuse to believe anyone unironcially enjoys watching GOATS vs GOATS every game. It literally always comes down to which brig lands a stun first and then what team uses more ults.

IT's about half from what I understand. Essentially the way they did it is when you have the blizz launcher up it automatically watches OWL, and they use that to cook the books on viewcount.

>A hamster
Meanwhile we also have a egiptian woman, a spic woman, a ugandan robot, a ugandan buff dude, a haitian buff dude, a swedish woman and an american hillbily woman
I bet if they add a wigga it will be gay

Tracer has a really cute navel, but it doesn't compensate how annoying she is
I wish widow could just insert her rifle in that belly button and shot her to put an end to her hot body

Despite what anyone else says. Lack of player owned servers. Since then just like tf2 and counterstrike players would run their own shit and with time mess around and mod shit a tad. From simple shit like lower respawn timers to full new game mods.
The idea being that the more the community is allowed to mess around with shit in some way or form the more involved they will feel and hence far more attached. Then the more attached people are they more likely to buy and support shit through whatever the fuck.
Then you got shit like WoW which being subscription based bring is shit ton of cash since alongside that they got in game purchases. Well they focus more on what brings in the most cash since the suits and shareholders on top only care about the most short term growth instead of building sustainable cash flows since that is what them fuckos want. And hence bundle all that together and that is why the game ended up the way it is now.
that said i think the game sucks is boring though.

I dropped Overwatch the moment they added ranked. It ruined everything and was the mark of the end.

>Casual went from a playlist where people would play the game but "casually" into a retardfest where any call for people to stop griefing or being obnoxious gets shouted down with "durr this ain't ranked bro who cares lol"

I've heard people who play quickplay only fucking despise the off-season because the mode gets flooded with these retards.

blizzard build an empire on copying other successfull games with more polish

valve made a killing showing the power of scripted events in a shooter and then transitioned into buying in modders and indi dev talent.

You can say alot about valve doing wrong when it comes to their steam platform but your history of game development knowledge is weak cause they are completly the opposite of eachother.

This user resumed it well, the game also encourages teams to have 2-2-2 comps (2 tanks dps and healers) but yet there's like 20 dps to choose from and ~6 healers and 7 tanks

>>Blizzard games before
>>humble production and ambition
blizzard games have always been extremely well produced

when they turned QP into friendly competitive mode. it was fun being 6 soilders or mecree in one game.

its the league of legends strategy

Put a stream link in the middle of your client and tack on rewards, most people don't watch, they just have it running in the background so they get their free lootboxes

The game tries to be a MOBA but has the depth of a Mario parry game.
And don’t forget that most support classes require no aim making them boring for most players.
Ults are overpowered and unbalanced. Some are game breakingly strong and feel 100% like bullshit and some others are useful one time out of ten.
Ranked system is fucked. The basic premise is that it’s a team game so you can’t carry a match unless you extremely outskill your teammates. But on the other hand you can’t choose your team and you’re thrown into a match with a bunch of strangers. The group finder was a very half assed attempt at fixing that and it didn’t work.
Barriers everywhere are boring to play against and required 90% of the time in order to win.

The two are not mutually exclusive, e.g. compare the dev-created pomp around the Witcher games, to the pomp around Cyberpunk, we can presume both will have the same level of quality production but Cyberpunk is obviously being marketed and sold under a much more ambitious label.

competitive Points are busted since it rewards players for not being necessary good but for having the highest medals. you can be a tank carry a team to victory but still get fuck all in Points since you got a silver medal or no medal at all.

>the basic premise is that it’s a team game so you can’t carry a match unless you extremely outskill your teammates.
Really good point, actually. This probably explains why ranked feels so much like a coin toss.
>The group finder was a very half assed attempt at fixing that and it didn’t work.
I'm not sure about that. While I never use it, some people say it saved match making for them.

Because the person in charge of Overwatch is an incompetent hack who was only hired at blizzard to develop raid content for WOW.

And raiding in WOW is probably the worst part about WOW and killed MMOs in general

>And don’t forget that most support classes require no aim making them boring for most players.
Only Moira(and Winston but hes tank) has auto aim these days, I guess Mercy counts but she doesn't have auto-aim weapons

I have ADHD and the game's pacing is horrible. Can't never enjoy this shit.

They wanted to recoup the years of production they halted on Titan in some quick, easily monetized format. This was explicitly revealed in interviews and talks given from blizzard employees. From the very start, though not openly, blizzard had planned Overwatch to be the most lucrative minimum viable product the industry had ever seen and it 100% worked. Marketing was everywhere they even payed actual porn stars to post on Overwatch promo material on socials. Everybody bought in believing the game would receive an actual story campaign, lots of maps, new characters, and a new open communication approach to balance. None of that happened. I sincerely hope whatever OW2 is at least sells less than half of the original after burning so many people. Players still have no communication with the devs on balance with no avenue to create their own balance via workshop while the game remains in an intentionally sandbagged cycle of skin sale event "content".

>Why did Blizzard let Overwatch fail?
Because they wanted the esports money and, somehow, thought that a game boring to watch was the best idea to get it.

The mercy rework that have her rez as an ability turned me off. It was on ptr for months with overwhelming criticism and they didn't do anything about it. They pushed it to the main game, and everyone complained. It then took them months to finally fix her. Blizzard doesn't understand balancing.

Attached: 1559248242200.jpg (720x1024, 74K)

Blizzard doesn't care to listen to players about balance because they balance the game for what normies think is entertaining. It's why nothing being "tested" on the public "test" region has ever been stopped from being patched into the game. They just want to act like player input is considered while trying to entertain the guy or girl who thinks stuns and ultimates are the coolest shit buying packs of lootboxes every other event.

Probably meant the healing takes no aim

That's actually a fascinating point of view and it makes a ton of sense

I was strictly talking about recent game development. Valve in the last few years has done artifact & autochess? both panned and almost DOA

>Couldn't have
ESL fag.

It's just memes and contrarianism.
After the elections, Yea Forums believes in meme magic, aka if you believe something very hard, it will happen, nevermind that Yea Forums has claimed multiple times in the past decade that Blizzard is dead.

I don't give a fuck. The old rez was fucking broken and you know it.

You are wrong, what they have been doing has been literally THE BEST THAT THEY CAN.

It's just that all the talent has left, their organization is a joke and their game design team retarded.

Game hasn't "died", but it's just so fucking shallow.

Blizard makes good games but they've never at any point in history know how to manage a community or balance their fucking games.

They have Overwatch 2 to focus on

Christ, they made points depend on the medals? That's the stupidest thing they could've done, I am glad I stopped playing long time ago.

hmm yeah but Ana and Baptise exits and both has long-distance and burst healing which other easier healers cant do(all the time so Mercy's new ult doesn't really count)

Those two don't mean the same thing you falseflagging ESL retard

>and the source is Yea Forums

That short time on PTR when new ulting mercy could wipe entire teams on her own was the most fun I had playing Overwatch since the beginning.

Activision took over, new CEO's changed the mission from "make good games" to "extract as much money as possible from this video game crap and as soon as possible"
The people in charge at the top dont give a fuck about the game's future in a decade, their job is to make money out of this company asap.

It worked with Telltale.

user, if you keep repeating that something will happen, it will eventually happen.

The biggest issue with Overwatch is that Blizzard are incapable of balancing a game, for either casual or competitive play. They tried to please both sides in OW and failed spectacularly at both. They refuse to admit their mistakes and will never ever go back on a decision made for some retarded reason.

You are literally agreeing with me.

I'm pretty sure that's CSGO. Free lootboxes for watching isn't a thing in LoL as far as I know, the shitty ass client probably can't handle it.

>Why did Blizzard let Overwatch fail?

Because development was more challenging for a new IP that demanded constant, quality updates instead of shit like WoW or Hearthstone where bugpeople will gobble it up no matter how terrible it is.

Let me rephrase so you can understand:
If you keep repeating something that is bound to someday happen, it doesn't mean you caused it.
Blizzard is gonna die someday, like every single company. It certainly won't be caused by retards on Yea Forums posting memes and twitter screenshots.

Slow updates with little to no content but a shitton of cosmetics. To few maps, too few gamemodes, press q to kill everyone abilities, infinite ammo and cooldowns, boring characters, uninteresting selfcontradicting lore thats going nowhere.

your wrong and someday you'll agree with me

>compare the dev-created pomp around the Witcher games, to the pomp around Cyberpunk
What fantasy world are you living in? Witcher 3 had tons of pomp

you're an idiot and you'll never stop being one

It was poorly made for long term player retention and money making.

To many heroes and to much work going into making cosmetics for these heroes. Players tend to find 2-3 they like and only want to use those, and with how long it takes to make cosmetics players can go months without something they want in an update.

Plus with more and more added it became more difficult to balance. Add this to the currency system rapidly leading players to have loads of currency and nothing to spend it on: even when they release a new hero most players could just buy all the stuff they wanted for it, further making it less likely they'd spend real money on loot boxes.

TF2 worked because it kept the same heroes, making cosmetics easy to make while also keeping the balance focused. Unless you charge for the hero itself then a class based system like OW will never work in the long term if your goal is making cash.

They didn’t make Pharah real so that I can marry her and breed her nonstop

People cared too much about winning and not having fun

No they did not. That user is retarded.

Overwatch was doomed from the start
>no map maker
>permament 6v6, meaning that every fuckup counts
>big emphasis on abilities, meaning that fucked up timing cost you a game
>official maps are chockepointy and come at slowly
>stuns stuns stuns

If you can do even the most basic pattern recognition you can notice that points are dependent on the match performance, not just medals, but they do play a big part

And thats OWs biggest drawback

No Custom Games Map Editor
No campaign

It should have been a f2p game.

You get blue essence for watching streams

NONE OF THAT $60 MULTIPLAYER ONLY BULLSHIT

They make enough cash off hearthstone whales

Attached: MuhSheckles.webm (853x480, 2.69M)

I prefer to fork over 60 dollars to play instead of the game becoming the f2p shitshow that is TF2

>Let
I had my account suspended because people don't like playing with me. I often went on 5+ win streaks getting gold with whoever I played. But oh no. I said bad things. Thus banned.

I'm glad I wasn't a retard who actually bought loot boxes though.

terribly balanced and blizz does not give a single fuck about what the community wants. Exception are Reddit shitstorms, then it'll only take Jeff like 3 months to do anything.
There's little to no effort put into the "fun" aspect. Money is all spent on Esports gayness and ways to recieve as much $$$ for no effort.

>Free lootboxes for watching isn't a thing in LoL
Just to explain to anyone not in the know.... You have to get an S rating on a champion you play in the game to get a loot box. To get keys you have to have an account in good standing. Every few days as a login bonus they give you a key. Sometimes this can be in a span of 2 days. sometimes it can be up to 5.

Here's the problem with Overwatch - they have shit priorities.

During that initial hype wave and subsequent year, nobody saw it because "HUUOOOOH NEW BLIZZ GAME" but it was always there. Sombra's release was an early omen of things to come - the ARG and everything surrounding it was so massively underwhelming in the end even after months of stupid buildup that they THOUGHT would be cool that they never did anything like it again.

Likewise, the game suffers from both a lack of actual content of substance, at least in a timely fashion, and Blizzard balance. There's a new map like once every what, half a year to a year? In addition, characters feel neutered from what they could actually be because everyone has to play with fun-sized nerf guns for everyone to have fun. This promotes overly safe, boring strategies being used over and over, which is not conducive to a continuously-supported game trying to retain a playerbase. On top of this, anything ACTUALLY new is just seasonal and not in the game for more than a month, meaning content is timelocked and if you miss something you want you may as well not play the game till it comes back.

And more recently they've been so focused on "MUH TOXICITY" and shit that they've neglected to actually help the game. They just shovel out new waifu skins and new EBIN SAMURAI NINJA Genji skins while complaining about how hard it is to make people not be mean online. They focus on the wrong things at the wrong times, so it's no surprise people would get bored of a stale game the devs refuse to actually shake up or add anything substantial to.

Mei is not that thin. She is fat.

She is quite chunky, but SFM literally has about 5 body types.

From their perspective, it didn't fail.

And from their persective, it doesn't matter if it failed from your perspective.

>Why did Blizzard let Overwatch fail?
Recouping losses from mismanagement crash into esports wall and working on overwatch2.

BTW Blizzard if Overwatch 2 doesn't begin with 76 and reaper in a 69 sucking each other off i'll be very pissed and @ you on twitter. Be very afraid.

dota underlords is doing 150k daily players I'd say that's a nice number.

>clock bomb
us muslims, imma rite?

>still waiting for Junker Queen ever since her teaser poster and Junkertown
how much longer lads

>waiting for some koalafucker whore

It's and incredibly huge success though.

Doesn't mean I like it. Never played it, and I can't stand the characters.

Another reason as to why Blender is better

They make a lot of money but they also spend it all, and now the numbers are declining.

Because nobody at Blizzard actually works on stuff, its kinda insane how slow the update schedules for their games actually are considering how big they are/were

activison spent over 40 million dollars on esports marketing

blizzard balancing took care of the rest. big brain dps main.

Attached: 1361484250666.jpg (533x539, 208K)

Oh yeah I remember Sombra's ARG. You solved the whole puzzle only to be told you have to wait a month or so for the character release. It was worthless.

But at the end of the day, we have nothing to blame but whales. The reason Blizz keeps on adding lootboxes instead of actual game content is because lootboxes make all the money. It's so much fucking money you be stupid not making more skins.

The one thing I don't understand is why they keep trying with the OWL. People don't want to watch it, it's the same strategy over and over again, it's boring. Even with ads they are bleeding money, this isn't a good investment. Well, not my clown not my circus.
