Never had problems with it. Only use it to find mods for obscure games like BMX Streets Pipe and Motocross games. Lot's of mod communities on there.

Dedicated fansites and on-site forums died long before Discord made its way into the various gaming communities

I remember people actually logging in to the game(s) just to chat with their friends, guilds and miscellaneous groups they were a part of. Discord has become so wide spread that even people who were mostly active on the games for the social aspect no longer need to be active on the game.

Things like guild forums and irc channels have been a thing since 90s and I sure as hell remember having people there that didn't even play games anymore. As for people logging in to chat with others, well I'd argue that those kinds of games are pretty much dead these days.
I'm glad we're past the shitty forums. Discord is a great way of getting voice chat with total unknowns you don't want to share your Teamspeak/Mumble server information with. Also free.
