XIV's "meta" is so fucking unimportant that it baffles me so much of the playerbase is concerned about it. Why are they like this? It's an easy PvE game, the meta doesn't mean anything. You can do anything (aside from maybe Ultimate which all of less than 1% of players ever touch) with any not-retarded composition

Most of the playerbase is so terrible at the game that they need that extra 5% dps from group comp to meet enrage on the second fight.

Dancer and Red Mage are the only jobs that interest me because I feel like they're the closest to breaking out of this shitty strict trinity roll system that has consumed modern MMO's. It's nothing much but having a decent heal and being able to rez went a long way into my enjoyment of RDM

Seeing so many sprouts and people leveling normally in SB zones gives me hope that the GNB queues won’t be fucked during early access.

That's actually not true. Machinist was perfectly fine. The change in 3.2 that made them broken was the hypercharge extention. The only reason you'd still take a bard in Gordias for A1 and A2 was that A1 was a double-target fight and A2 was AOE fight, both of which made bard look better, but in A3 they were about equal and in A4 MCH was straight up better.

None of us know if Shadowbringers is going to be any good yet. Some changes seem good, like attacks having multiple charges. Others seem bad, like further simplifying all the tanks. Maybe the game will have enough changes that everything wraps around well, or maybe everything's being dumbed down. I see the writing on the wall and I'd rather not get my hopes up, but I'll also see it for myself.

More than half of all characters in this game are female.

Bard, Dragoon, Red Mage, and Summoner will all be competing for that third slot of dps with a raid buff that isn't as good as NIN or DNC but still good. They will also be competing for the fourth slot if selfish dps aren't selfish enough to justify bringing. Machinist is the job that is most in danger because there's a low chance they will be able to compete with SAM and BLM for the same role.

Maintenance starts in 3 hours, you're good until 2AM PST.

MCH was the first class to come along where if you didn't play it THIS way and only THIS way it wouldn't be viable. It had a very bad name back in 3.0-3.1 and SE went off of that in their buff. 10% hypercharge was such overkill and it was apparent from the beginning.

sprint is a skill that anybody can use regardless of job, inside or outside of combat

ninja gets a trait that boosts their base run speed by 10%

monk gets fists of wind, which increases their runspeed by 10%

ranged dps have a cross class skill which increases the speed of all allies to near sprinting speed outside of combat

most jobs in the game have some sort of skill that instantly teleports them to or from a target, or towards an ally

That might be the way it is now that every DPS is within 3%-4%~ RDPS of each other but when Monk is 15% below MCH in RDPS there's a problem.
You shouldn't need to perform at 97th percentile to be more valuable than a 70th percentile MCH.

The reason why no one likes MCH procs is because it controls whether you can even progress your combo. If you don't get the procs you're just stuck pressing 1111 over and over. Dancer can always do their combo, their procs just activate additional abilities so getting the procs feels good unlike MCH where you are just annoyed when you don't get a proc. It's no different to RDM's procs, not getting them doesn't stall your rotation.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find many people who sincerely like the empire as it is. They're definitely aesthetic, have the cool technology going for them, and since they've always been at our heels, it's exciting to get to know them better. I was particularly enamored with the Populares and having Gaius come back to help hunt Ascians is pretty cool.
Gaius was an antagonist, but I don't really see a case for calling him truly an evil adversary.

The ability names are derived from Squall and Seifer's limit breaks, the lion-themed Squall abilities from Dissidia, astronautical terms and Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone.
They have the Hrothgar Queensguard lore behind them and the AF evokes an 80's action hero theme. Their abilities are flashy and a lot of them evoke the same "space" feel as their austonautical names.

Only DRK has as much identity.

Let me put it this way. A lot of the designs, such as Ul-Dah, Limsa-Lominsa and Gridania are taken from Tolken-esque work. It's all high-fantasy. Ishgard reinforces that. It's very much western aesthetics. Just because it's over the top and flashy doesn't make it japanesque, it's all based on western staples.
