"let's make a video game"

lets make a good game

It's a natural evolution of the first game. Keep the top down movement but turn the combat into its own seperate instance. It only seems like such a black sheep now because they backpedaled on those advancements for Zelda 3.

"lets make link have a nigger counterpart"

literally the dark souls of zelda games.

>let's not rehash our first game
>people complained
>rehashing has been a stain on the industry since
Consumers are fucking stupid

They wanted sequels to be different than the first game so that people don't feel like it's a rehash of the first game.

It was pretty common back in the NES days.

if it's not broken don't fix it

It's gopod

>Link has to defeat his inner nigger

>game formula is good and fun
>continue with that formula
>NOOOOO THIS IS BAD BECAUSE IT'S THE SAME, CHANGE IT SO IT'S DIFFERENT!!!!

or just play the first game over again
also Link was dope, people complaining about it are shitters

Could've been superior to its predecessor had they not forgotten the fucking items/weapons from said prequel.
Link's popsicle sword feels like shit and has godawful range, but could've been made up for with the stun power of the boomerang or as a finishing blow after using bombs or arrows to take on knights from afar.

It wasn't that bad

The game is good and dare I say it more fun than the first one so fuck you

First ever instance of the open world meme

So basically you're too casual to fight the first knight enemies. Tip: attack low.

literally the best zelda game.

PC had open world games since 81

Nigger, I fucking know about the jump stab method to dealing with Darknuts. It doesn't change the fact that combat could've been far more enjoyable had they kept the damn weapons from the previous game.

I mean the first instance of a game series attempting to make the jump into a much bigger world but ending up worse for it

How come Super Mario Bros 2 was basically a romhack of the first game then?

but if anything the world is smaller than in 1

they made one of the best adventure games on the system and introduced some stuff that would be staples in later zelda games

I don't see the problem

Exactly. The separate overworld at first appears to create a sense of scale but you quickly realizes that the game world is smaller and emptier

Really wish vidya had this sort of covers and this general aesthetic.

Not that it matters because once games become a 'service', I'll stop buying them and probably playing them. That day isn't too far away

but its not emptier

"We should make a sequel to this popular game. Should we do a Super Mario Bros. 2(Japan) and make the same game with new stages, or a Super Mario Bros. 2(US) and change things up?"
"Changing things seems more fun and creative. Let's do that."

I get you my dude but I can't agree. Link is one of my favorite NES games and one of the best vidya sequels

>a Super Mario Bros. 2(US) and change things up
I think you mean changing the assets of a completely unrelated game, shiggy-san.

How is this more creative than the genius level design that went into SMB2(J) exactly?

At least it's different which makes it worth playing, unlike Zelda 1 which, if you've played LttP, is just an archaic version of that which you can skip without missing anything.

So what if they changed the sprites? They still had to actually make the game.

Swapping assets into another previously existing game is creatively bankrupt.
