I doubt they will ever resolve it. Cloud and Tifa will obviously be together but the shadow of Aerith will probably hang over it like in AC, and games with these characters will probably put Aerith and Cloud together like they have done.

i think due to the mechanics of the dating sequence at the gold saucer we can safely say aeris is the canon girl for cloud BUT it is much easier to get tifa over yuffie for the sequence so i don't think you can discount tifa entirely, its pretty easy to get her points up to get her as cloud's date and it could easily accidentally happen to a player on a first playthrough
