MY

BOO

Sometimes while playing ss13, I get legitimate rushes of adrenaline out of fear for my character's life. Somewhat different than a traditional horror scare, but comes with the exact same feeling of panic and overwhelming intensity

PENIS

what game is this

ngl this is me whenever I'm about to break cover as a stealth antag and kill someone.

MPWOC

Covering shit up as an antag is an incredible rush

minecraft

IS

SWOLEN

Attached: pay attention to the red circles.gif (832x598, 1.16M)

I don't see anything

Silent Hill, and Darkwood.

They are not only the most recent games to scare me, but the only games to have ever scared me. Horror is a really weak gaming genre that is almost impossible to get right.

>gif

Attached: 1417253195629.jpg (600x600, 37K)

Seconding darkwood. You'll get adhd autists pretending ">muh slow atmosphere" is some sort of knock to the game though.

>>>
it's different things to different people, the bigger a horror game gets the less likely it is to have the niche appeal. Best bet is these indie games, one or two is bound to be made by a literal clone of yourself

>gif

Skyrim

SOMA. The sea freaks me out. That fucking anglerfish

Attached: 1111.png (390x238, 174K)

Cry of Fear

Does SOMA actually focus on the underwater aspect a lot?

There are long sections that focus entirely on being in the depths of the oceans, and deep sea, rather than indoors, if that answers your question.

I bought SOMA but quit 15 minutes in because I was too scared

wow you got me you bastard

Hell yes, might play this sooner than planned.

Look, I get that SOMA goes for the ambience+lore type of horror
but it bored the hell out of me
Like you really need to be in mood for a slow type of game if you want SOMA to scare you

Fatal Frame II

you might have adhd dude

It's not slow. Shit can be violently scary at times, it's a rush. The story is pretty great too so it keeps you interested and motivated. Did you not play more than an hour?

how do i stop getting scared by horror games bros
the loud noises and getting chased are too much
im not scared by any other media either

had enough time to look at both circles and realize it's a gif safely
get fucked

That walking sim where you constantly get jump scared as you rebuild a painting. Layers of fear or something I think. The game itself wasn't scary in its atmosphere, but a couple of the jumpscares caught me out.

yeah, but the scariest part is the existential dread by far
really got me in some part
>tfw you lose the coin toss

I quitted the game when I got to Lambda
The monsters are not scary if you go from the penumbra games to SOMA, so again it was kinda boring

I was replaying Vampire Bloodlines, but the haunted house level made me quit. I was determined to get through it legit because usually I just noclip. I know its not strictly horror, but I'm a pussy when it comes to anything horror related in vidya.

Attached: Screenshot_20190210-032814.png (854x480, 326K)

I know that's the pull, and that's why I've put it off.
I appreciate that stuff but I'm not looking for it a lot of the time when I'm looking for a horror experience.
My life revolves around the sea so I need that ocean horror fix.

Attached: sub.jpg (1280x960, 267K)

>lose the coin toss
brainlet

>brainlet
nah, i know the coin toss is a lie

Soma is the most oppressive game I've ever played, The mix of danger, despair and hopelessness made me feel like shit

>he still thinks there was a coin toss

truly the inhabitants of Yea Forums are the most underage in all of 4channel

Not a horror movie but The Outer Wilds scares the shit out of me. I don't know what it is but I just can't bring myself to go to some of the planets, man.

the first time i watched my brother play Ravenholm when half life 2 came out i had nightmares for weeks.

Underage? I'm 28 years old!

Attached: Screenshot_20190626-222232.png (854x480, 300K)

Jumpscares literally do not count

I remember finding that area spooky so you aren't alone. I just can't remember why.

Due to the internet I find skeletons absolutely fucking hilarious.

Fatal Frame 2 Wii Edition

not sure about horror, but the last game to scare me was minecraft. and boy did it scare me, heart jumped out of my chest. something happened that shouldnt have happened...

and i havnt been scared or effected at all by movies or tv for atleast 17 years now, but i watched twin peaks return recently and one scene made me feel fear like horrors movies when i was a kid. good lord

When I first played RE2, the zombie arms breaking through the wall scared me pretty well. Nothing has really done it since then though.

>but i watched twin peaks return recently and one scene made me feel fear like horrors movies when i was a kid
which one?
there's plenty of nightmare fuel in the return

>horror

Attached: 1561246724128.png (524x443, 477K)

this whole scene.

Attached: giphy-22.gif (480x269, 2.16M)

Why the fuck did they add so many horror sound effects to the newer versions of minecraft? They dont even happen when monsters are nearby, it's completely random, you'll just be minding your own business mining and suddenly hear inhuman screeching coming from the end of the shaft

ahh nice, that scene is so fucking good
i've never seen anything quite like it

AND

Dead by daylight

send scene

yeah that is what happened. i was zoning out deep underground, silence for a long ass time, and suddenly a fucking scary sound plays AND i catch out of the corner of the screen something move at the same time. i only play peaceful mode btw. that was a very intense couple of seconds.

pt

youtu.be/IGM6Gsi-U4c

it just builds and builds the anxiety, then just wtf oh god what is happening

Isn't that just a screenshot from Kairo/Pulse? Reminds me a ton of this scene

top tier horror btw would recommend

what do you think is going on in Bobby's head at this moment?

Attached: 124125315136.png (392x359, 123K)

Subnautica is the most memorable horror experience from recent years for me. If you don't look anything up in guides/wikis and play on the if you die your savefile gets deleted mode, a lot of the zones become absolutely nervewracking to explore. Hearing a strange noise from a dark abyss always managed to leave me feeling triggered, especially when my savefile accumulated 30-40 hours of progress.

Unironically, it was Bloodborne. Seriously what the fuck is the deal with those Winter Lanterns? That singing is generally discomforting, and don't get me started on Yahar'gul post-Rom and Nightmare of Mensis. Especially that fucking spider room in Mensis.

probably a bizarre mix of confusion, amusement, annoyance and a little shellshock.

what's his problem?

Attached: ece.png (269x617, 251K)

Its Inland Empire as fuck

It's because you don't expect to be spooked, and you're a vampire, so the thought of the spook being spooked by a spook is unnerving.

Attached: 1560639963615.png (750x732, 495K)

This is more funny than anything

>tfw you've already pre-emptively lost the coin toss

Attached: 1410478200189.gif (320x180, 1.77M)

he knew exactly what he was doing. the little shit

that is part of the beauty of TP s3, it was knee slapping hilarious while also being fucking unnerving as shit

Anyone wants a mild spoopy dump?

Darkwood.
Seconding this if Darkwood wasn't more recent. The entire section in the abyssal plain is one of most perfectly atmospheric sections of vidya I've ever played. Really drives home the darkness, pressure, and alien-ness of the environment.
You always feel like you're underwater, and there are chunks where you're outside in the water.

I couldn't never get into horror games, they never really scared me they usually end up boring and or annoying me.

SS13 can get extremely tense at times, whether I'm power gaming or not a cult situation where a large number of the crew has been converted can be pretty scary because you can't tell if they're cult but they can tell if you're not.

Hell even when playing cult it can get pretty tense, AI, sec, wandering greyshirts, etc can blow your plan right open and end with you getting borged, I remember betraying ERT during a firefight as a cultist, I also remember straight up murdering two security guards with a laser cannon and decapitating them. Under other circumstances I could have been one of those guards, I have so many stories of fucked situations that make horror games just pale in comparison.

Despite having played the game for a while I get extremely anxious over assassinations, there's just so much that can go wrong and so many variables that you can't account for that fuck you up.

Playing STALKER CoC. The utter sense of dread and loneliness is only enhanced by the completely organic jump scares that happen. I just know that those dense reeds in the swamp could be hiding anything kind of mutated fucking abomination. No matter where you go in the Zone, you get the sense that you're not supposed to be there.

My favorite out of everything I've played, because they don't rely on gimmicks and keep the intensity going through the whole game

- Cry of Fear
- Penumbra: Overture
- Amnesia

Hellblade, the blind section where you have to follow the rumbling of the controller.
Scared might be the wrong word, but the level was really tense, actually pretty cool. Wish the game didn't have so much "walk around to find the runes" though

No user pls for the love of God more, or at least where can I read more?

There was a low poly indie game that got me good. Don't remember the name of it, but the initial scenario is you walking around some sort of manor with some ethereal presence stalking you. You black out and wake up in different sections repeatedly. Sounds lame but it was executed well for what it was.

Thanks user, this was really intriguing and I'm glad you've exposed me to it.

Not him, but before coming to this thread I watched 1993 Monday Night Raw, then read Berserk. So I like all of those things.

Good read. Thanks user.

Gnight, that was fun

The devs of the game are retarded.

The shrine god was pretty nice despite looking like the gaping dragon.

Jews

postal 1 really fucked me up.i i don't know why since i play a lot of games but something about it made my head spin and the loading screen, text, music and just random killing made me have to turn it off quickly.

something about that game really fucked me up but i love number 2

small souls used by a bigger monster like food and collectors. read the manga its good
yea. watch it be nice after you destroy the shrine

Silent Hill 2, I’ve played it a couple times but doing my first Hard difficulty run, lights off, surround sound at a higher volume. Encountering any enemy (though they are same-y) gives me lots of anxiety. I will say SH3 on Hard with no Bullet Adjust is a very unnerving experience.

What does that even mean? Are some people's souls smaller than other people's? Are they animal souls? Are they gnome souls?

But that’s already the case m8. The shrine IS abandoned. That’s why that place looks like it’s falling apart.

I like the idea of tiny fucking assholes running around being cunts.

...but how does that happen? Because doing bad shit makes your soul ugly, not smaller. Is it just a natural thing? Because that would fucking suck, it'd be like being born with a microdick.

Thread ruined by a weeb incel.

nigga it means what it means. do you not see humans souls looking like animals or deformed babys or ect ect. evil humans personality deforms them and they join a foodchain that allows souls to be eaten

Okay but then what does one have to DO to become a minijew? Because most of the ghosts are pretty obvious with how they got to where they are (groping ghost, ex-gf, gossipy bitches, etc.). I swear to God this is critical information I require immediately.

Buddy, I know you just want attention, but give it a rest
Hang out, be cool, have fun
I love you, man

I don't love you.
Your parents should have slammed you against a doorframe as a child.

I neither love nor hate you, for I do not know you personally.

>Because doing bad shit makes your soul ugly, not smaller
Yes but the ugly part has its own random variations that for the most part are seemingly random. Based off a later chapter with the loli and big soul, size might be an indication of the presence/power of the soul if you will.

RUBBER

lol so true

you just explained it. Each ghost represents there past sins from cat monster man to groping man. the jews represent greed and attachment to items. its like a poltergeist but it haunts the coins in your wallet

Are the Stalker games worth giving a shot?

What the fuck did he mean by that?
Will he banish ghosts for her three more times?

I played RE4 a few months ago for the first time ever and i've never felt so scared playing a video game that when i got to the Regenerators part.
>blow away the parasites on the first and second one using the thermal scope
>"i'm a genius"
>the spiky one comes out
>i notice it has one on it's back
>can't quite aim at it
>think "i'm gonna shoot it's legs off"
>as i nervously aim it actually starts fucking crawling at me at INCREDIBLE HIGH SPEEDS while i'm fucking zoomed to the max on the scope
>"OH NO"
Legit screamed, for all the dumb things people scream at RE4 it was a great fucking game.

Attached: 1560123667192.jpg (2048x1536, 261K)

Right, the square-head guy. Does that mean everyone starts off as a semi-semite? Or just some people? And what are the criteria someone has to meet on the shittiness scale to be a pint-sized Israelite? Do you have to be really shitty to be reduced to that state, or really shitty to NOT be?

So what, is this Pokemon rules then? Gain enough XP (eat other souls) and evolve into a super-soul? Does that mean gods are the shittiest people on Earth? Can we catch them and make them fight each other?

Too bad the gameplay itself was dogshit in soma. It could have been a great game

I love deep sea horror and i couldn't get scared either, the main character's script and voice was too goofy for me to take seriously.

no rules. even souls play by the foodchain and nothing is forever unlike innocent souls.

I like cry of fear too, but you have to admit, it's chalk full of gimmicks. The second half of the game is basically going from one gimmick to the next.

NO rules? So like, a soul can just spontaneously become more powerful without any sort of external stimuli? Is this a real religion, or is it just something the author came up with? Is this what Shinto is?

I'd say the shittiness of the person only modifies their ugliness. Everything else from that point on is dictated only by varying factors of their past natural appearance, their personality, and if they did do something bad then the nature of their crime.

amnesia like 9 years ago I guess? Does a jump count as a scare? Lots of games have jumps, dead by daylight can make you jump at that game is silly af

lol so true

Good job user, kudos.
Now I gotta scroll back up and find what I was missing in the thread...

that slenderman game.

That's when I realized I get easily scared so I stopped playing horror games. It's the sound effects that does me in

cringe

Why is Deltarune even on this list

>become more powerful without any sort of external stimuli
there are monsters stronger then others. i guess the more evil they are the stronger they are but who cares its a anime

See NPCment
>It's not even horror
A better question is why is Slender on here?

It's a shitpost. It's designed to get (You)s by any means necessary.

because some anons are pussies that can't handle horror games

>literally tensed up so hard from the first 100 floors of Spooky’s House of Jumpscares that my arms were sore
I am a massive fucking pussy

>HONK HONK HOOOOOOOONK
>HONK HONK HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK
HONKHONK
>HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK HOOOOOOOOONK
Thanks for reminding me how fucking terrible this season was, Jesus fucking Christ.

Fucking definitely, mate.

Listing the arguments people will make against your image doesn’t magically nullify them

In all fairness the jumpscares in Dino Crisis fucking get to me

Fatal Frame 5

>chapter 9

Thanks user, didn't expect to cry from a horror thread. That cat owner one was goat.

Darkwood is probably the first horror game in a long time that constantly had me feeling like I was gonna shit my pants. Devs should really experiment with mixing in RNG elements into horror games more often.

Alien Isolation was the last decent horror game to come out. Brilliant game.

ANything else? Darkwood is alright

You never dissapoint Yea Forums.

would this scare a 12 yr old? y'all are some pussies man XD

Jesus fucking christ user

way to reiterate exactly what he said

There never was a coin toss, Simon.

I played Amnesia a couple years back and this happened

>johj is chasing me in that underground area
>get into the habit of opening doors and then checking the hall I came from while going in, basically waling in without looking
>open this one door
>bump into something and stop moving
>turn around
>It's the fucking patchwork nigger

I screamed irl and jumped out of my chair

abyssal plain? the lake? the true ending? what?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

There was no coin toss moron, you always "lose"

Dude ya had up until the fat bitch goin oh god at the end im in tears

Darkwood abuses my CPU for some reason to the point I can smell it heating up. No other game ever does this, I can play Total Warhammer 2 on Ultra just fine for example. Don‘t know what the deal is, but I wish I could actually play the game because it seems interesting.

Thanks user. This and Jahy-sama are two recent mangos I learned about here.

>Yea Forums - cute girl manga

dropped this manga. too much gay in it.

This, the lack of knowing what is going to happen is a major part of fear.

the game that made me feel the most dread in the recent years is ECHO

>scarred cat guy & his accompanying light spirits
>chapter 9
Thanks, user. That was a pretty good read. Probably one of the best that I've actually gone through in a while.

Spooky shit in non-horror games is always 10x scarier because you're not expecting it

>>tfw you lose the coin toss
you don't understand how souls work, fucking noobs

>usually I just noclip
You sound like you skip the sewers too. What a tasteless clown you are

I don't get fearful in vidya, I just get surprised/startled from moment to moment
STALKER is like that, like when the baby starts crying in Lab X8 when it was dead silent before or when you get bloodsuckered stumbling through the woods at night
Same thing in Escape from Tarkov when I'm creeping around the quiet factory listening intently for footsteps amongst the ambient sounds and then suddenly 3 automatic rifles start going off in the room next to me

Spooky shit IRL don't faze me but spooky shit in game fucks me up
do I have autism?

Oh shit been looking this for years thanks, shit is fucking creepy

FUCK YOU GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK GOD

>Siren: Blood Curse
>walking around in a creepy town
>suddenly the camera changes to enemy's POV
>think its just a cutscene
>"wait a minute, that place, I was just the..."
>realize its real-time
>its too late
maaan horror games nowadays are too reliant on jump scares.

Alien Isolation

Any spooky VR games worth playing?

This. Fantastic and underrated.

>tfw never complete horror games to this day because I'm still a pussy

Attached: giphy.gif (476x640, 3.59M)

If you have a PSVR then RE7 for sure.

Does this artist draw porn on the side? The girl is pretty sexy.

Mind giving context please?

Stalker shadow of Chernobyl. Its atmosphere is the eeriest one I've ever experienced, especially when you are down into sewer levels or the underground facilities. Almost had a fucking heart attack when I encountered the bloodsucker for the first tine.

Darkwood and Visage
Especially Darkwood had me full of dread at times.

VRChat if you have social anxiety.

Dead Space 1

visage deez nuts

Alien: Isolation. Only horror game that made me reconsider whether it was worth playing. Dead Space 1 and 2 are also absolutely insane.

>Outlast
I can't deal with "abandoned" houses.

>Close your eyes.
>Let your ears listen, to the radio.
>Do you hear my voice?
>Can you hear your own soul's scream?
>Let us choose
>My voice that tells the future
>Or your tortured (inaudible)
>Well, what do you choose?
>You can choose.
>Your life, your future.
>Wise as you are you might already have discovered it.
>Yes, the radio drama from 75 years ago was true.
>'They' are here on our earth and they monitor and see all.
>Don't trust anyone. Don't trust the police.
>They are already controlled by 'them'.
>That's the way it has been for 75 years now.
>Only our best will prevail
>You have a right. A right to become one of us.
>So, welcome to our world. Very soon the gates to a new dimension will open.

I wonder who "They" are?

>play VtMB for the first time recently due to the new one being announced
>hear about this fucking hotel being scary for years
>play it
>it's mostly just annoying chip damage from physics objects and a Shining reference
>not remotely scary
>feel like it was over-hyped

>no one ever mentions the Downtown sewer boss/plague quests
>no one ever mentions the Tzimisce flesh mansion in Hollywood
>no one ever mentions the fucking sewers following it
>no one ever mentions the werewolf

That plague quest alone spooked me more than anything else. Guess it was the concept of it more than anything. I was thinking about writing a story about bug chasers before after reading a blog by someone who PURPOSELY spread their own STDs around with a similar mentality. The idea that people can almost be possessed by their viruses, and the insane scale of death they could potentially spread scares the fuck out of me.

Attached: tumblr_p11ojxNVCx1vlfulno1_1280.jpg (1280x750, 108K)

>not GOT A LIGHT

>play a Clive Barker rip-off action game with guns and blood everywhere
>somehow get the only good social commentary about crime and institutional failure in the US I've ever seen in a game

Was not expecting that at all.

>I was thinking about writing a story about bug chasers
I'd be interested in reading it if you ever do. Have you ever seen It Follows?

NEN

Yeah. I liked it, but I couldn't help but constantly think of ways to break the rules it set up. Like, what if you fucked a sailor who spent most their time at sea. Would "it" be able to catch them?

I have this series of short story ideas about a sort of doomsday necromancer, where I really bend the idea of "death" and take it to a weird place. Like, how exactly does that trope of a skeleton wielding a sword work? Could you "resurrect" something like a "dead" Cambrian ocean? What if you did necormancy in a natural history museum? Is death a purely binary state when you have krokodil addicts whose flesh is necrotizing and their senses are being killed by opiates? etc. That last one is going to be the first one I work on for a contest. I like the idea of "death" being more like a weirdly active force or process, rather than a state of non-activity, almost like an afterlife or alternate dimension that intersects with this more living reality we're in. We've weirdly been comforted by the idea of angels for thousands of years, yet ghosts almost always scare us even though they come from the same place.

So a bug-chaser death cult might be a story that fits in there.

nice

?We've weirdly been comforted by the idea of angels for thousands of years, yet ghosts almost always scare us even though they come from the same place
What? A big portion of why people are scared of ghosts are due to their unknown intentions and whether they are malicious. Angels are generally portrayed as benevolent. It has practically nothing to do with where they come from.

Played it with a friend and we spent the first 15 minutes throwing stuff into the toilet in the apartment

boo

F.E.A.R Extraction Point those invisible cunts scare the fuck out of me every time, plus when holiday gets killed I was freaked out the entire time.

Thank god for slow internet, I aborted that shit like a chilean baby
