It gets like that in the lategame even with full health. At that point it's best to kill everything as quickly as possible before they can so much as breathe at you.
You can't get instakilled by anything with enough glass, the only way you die is just by bad play.
Beetle Queen is a complete fucking chump as Merc, you absolute mongoloid. Just use your three dashes, have the last one end directly above her, hit R, then stop on top of her and spam M1/M2 until you can use Dash/R again. You literally never get hit.

Change your timing so you're either dashing around or hitting R when she spits, moron. You won't get hit with enough to put you at half HP unless you're a complete fucking moron. Either that, or just buy drones so she's not aiming at you.

It's weird how all the AI seem to have a different shooting programmed into them. BQ seems to generally get you, but everyone else just misses if you keep moving in a circle. Except for firebros. Fuck those guys. They shoot a near instant laser.

That's a fair point, but you'll get killed enough to see she attacks in patterns. Usually she'll roar when she spawns, then either 3 shot with spit, birth wasps at you, or vice versa those two, then roar and repeat. Spit has bright green particles accumulate at her face for a couple seconds, disappear, then fires. Trying jumping in some random direction the few frames before the particles disappear then jump back with Merc's doublejump. Should misfire every time.
Rex is great fun and nigh unkillable when you have the right rhythm down, but his TTK is absolutely fucking atrocious compared to everyone else.

The issue with seeing something as minuscule as a few particle effects around her mouth is the overall speed of the game, especially as Merc, 99% of the time you aren't even looking near the boss.

DoT would be counter-intuitive to the healing, I think it should give you a reduced healing tick like the third shot on the enemies inside the AoE, maybe 15% of the damage done

Update on the vanishing vagrant and overlords: I think the reason the vagrant died is because it hit itself with its own orbs, I just fought it again and it lost a big chunk of health for no reason while I had it pinned on the ground so I think that's why. If they're unable to hit themselves with their orbs then I don't know what it is. If my theory is right though that makes it pretty easy to beat vagrants. No idea what happened with the overlord though, I fought it again just now and hit it with the BFG and nothing happened

You should play him some more before you make a final judgment. Rex is as fast as the other survivors and he's all around awesome if you get a few key items

Rex literally has the same move speed as everyone else, he's just big.
What would you consider his key items? m1 m2 spam basically doesn't need anything, although teddies help quite a bit. People used to say Artificer and Engineer are the most starting item independent but it feels like Rex is the new champ at that, he can sort of use anything and melt the boss with anything.

Man, I'm glad I have guillotine, but I fucking hate these elites, wastes my time.
Rex is good
The character's only two problems:
1) you NEED movement. It doesn't matter if it's a quail, a feather, or a couple speed ups. You absolutely need it otherwise fighting more than one stone golem at a time will get you ass fucked. Maybe I'm just bad at using fart cannon. After you have some speed you're good to go.
2) When there are only a few enemies around you can't spam right click. If you can't spam right click, you can't kill shit fast. You have to wait around for things to group up before you can safely start dealing damage. This is especially bad in 2nd loop on when you want to take out the boss that spawned in with you but there's nothing but fucking lesser wisps flying around for another minute or so. Also, fuck lesser wisps, Rex can't do shit against a horde unless he has a ton of AOE items
Outside of mobility, Stealthkit is pretty much the best green on him. He doesn't need any attack speed synergy which is nice
M2 needs backup mags
Sounds crazy, but without the 1 second delay and makes the spamming more fun.

They had a system where the music would change in and out of certain parts depending on the situation, turns out they weren't happy with it, so they scrapped it, I think it's for the better.

Stealth kit is also high tier for him and any healing items of course are stellar on Rex. Bands of course also contribute to some really nasty aoe proc chains but those are good on anyone

I think it was the War Horn.
It grants 70% attack speed for 8(+4) seconds after using your equipment.
The final boss has not been added yet. The "official" way to win the game right now is to take the celestial portal on Stage 7 (and or any third stage after that) and obliterate at the obelisk for 5 lunar coins

How do you feel about the Artificer buffs. I think the hover is just what she needed. Being a jump and a half off the ground makes her flamethrower safer.
She's also nearly immune to comet's downside now.

Take it off and put it back on again before leaving for the next level. Just replace with a random new use item. Doesn't despawn, far as I know.

Aegis is a ridiculous item. It stacks fully so there's no diminishing returns and if your run is going well at all you're able to at least delete groups of trash mobs quickly and this fucking common makes you unkillable. Its basically just a more reliable monster tooth thats all around better besides barrier being something that decays, but who really cares since you'll be regenerating missing health beneath the barrier and you get to generate shields while fighting instead of needing to be untouched for it to regenerate. Not to mention its one of the items that can utterly break Rex.

as long as you're full on health the game will not allow you to die to one instance of damage. so ideally you want to lower your hp as much as possible with a billion shaped glass and then grab some leech seeds/scythes and you're good to go.

it actually gets ridiculously brutal if you have no movement items, even if you have stealthkit and everything. The moment there are 2-4 bosses sitting there and NO grouped up small enemy spawns around to heal off of you may just be fucked.

I've found myself way more pressed to go EXTREMELY FAST on monsoon now because getting scaled out is way easier now. Sticky bomb nerf and DoT scaling nerf made the game spongier overall.
Last patch it was somewhere around 2nd loop where you have enough items to get around but the game is still a struggle. I haven't even gotten an OP run yet

I've only been playing plant and I'm not good with him yet so that's probably why.
Magma Worms need a complete overhaul or they should be ixnayed from the game. They act like fucking retards compared to every other boss which actively attempt to engage the player. Worms swim around and occasionally remember the player exists and dives in their direction. The balls of magma and lightning are to offset this, but it comes off as extremely cheap. Every time I get worms as a boss I instinctively know I'm going to win because they're not a threat. Risk of Rain 1 worms by contrast are the bane of any experienced player's existence (unless you're Chef).
Worms should be 50% faster and more actively seek the player. I think that alone fixes it because it feels like their AI is just bugged out to begin with.
Plant is unironically easier to play in multiplayer than singleplayer. He is an AoE king, but since spawns start off so sparse early on in single player, you end up shooting single enemies with flowers and mortars to kill them quickly or just shooting them and taking ages instead.
Yeah I found that when fucking around in multiplayer as well.
Also semi-unrelated but it feels like Elite spawns are up across the board significantly
