The best commissions are the ones with characters that have been completely decoupled from FFXIV.

I joined less than a year ago and just reached the end 2 weeks ago. The base game was without a doubt the worst part in terms of dungeons, quests, story, and trials. If you enjoyed that, you'll be blown away by how much better it gets in Heavensward and Stormblood.
Only thing base game excels in is comfy areas. I still love going back to Gridania and Ul'Dah for the ambience.

roles have armor sets instead of jobs having specific armor sets (outside of a few jobs and af gear)
it makes jobs have less identity
the glamour system is atrocious
the housing system is worse than runescape, RUNESCAPE a fucking browser game, AND it has less customizeability
the crafting system is tedious and awful
having to sell items on the market board via retainer instead of yourself is a qol inconvenience
the leveling experience is awful because you do not have a complete class and rotation until at least 60, until then you're playing a gimped meme and it's painful
level sync is an awful system because it's used in 90% of content, which means if you actually want to play the game with your full and fun class, you're basically locked to running just end game content
leveling alt jobs is utterly mind numbing
despite there being lots of quests, they offer so little in the way of xp that they're basically worthless

On one hand leveling CRP and CUL just to get xclass skills is not really engaging or fun gameplay, on the other hand I agree that it's just another way to make the game more casualized.

If you can't make sense of that then its probably for the best

no, it isn't good, what they should do instead is just let people carry their friends through stuff if they want to do old content, but if you're say level 70 going to grind fates for a relic weapon, it's an awful experience and level sync is honestly a fucking mistake

The game has some serious fucking problems. The GMs are fucking retarded, SB's pruning (and to a lesser extent for most jobs, SH's pruning) were fucking shit, and there's hardly any raid content.
