the coins depends on the tier of the track and if you play on the weekends or not.

I played the original once or twice as a kid, never owned it until now. I mastered every mario kart on release my whole life, but ctr is a different beast. It’s taking some getting used to the mechanics and physics. I got drifting and boosting down but I’m just now learning about air braking, u turns, USF and how to keep chaining my boosts. Taking my time with adventure mode though and I want to get more familiar with the game before getting my shit kicked in with online. But over all I’m enjoying this game a lot. The skill ceiling is definitely much higher and the execution is much more rewarding.

There's a daily multiplier system. I'm not exactly sure how it works but you have a multiplier on your rewards until you have earned around 4000-5000 coins per day and then you lose it and get it back the next day. Apparently the multiplier is bigger on weekends although I haven't seen any actual source on this. This system was probably made to keep the online active as it encourages people to play online games every single day. I personally play online games every day until I start getting less than a 100 coins per victory and then I just stop for the day.

Got the 101% this morning on Hard, Oxide was rocking my shit last night but came back refreshed this morning and beat him like third try.
Game gets surprisingly easy at the end - only issues I had with Relics were tracks where I kept missing crates. Plenty of times I still had enough time to stop and grab two in a section and still get the Plat, though.
AI difficulties could probably have used a slight taper, as opposed to (assumedly) the same AI throughout - Hard forces you to master it, and then leaves you with little to no challenge. Also, the AI rubber-banding to set time windows really makes every race feel like a time trial, but with added random 'fuck you try again' stray item hits. Literally no point in using a Clock or Warp (or anything offensive, really) until the end of the race.

Moved onto the Time Trials and I'm fucking frustrated:

Seriously, you can just get demolished by three or four items in a row with no chance to recover.

It’s a 50/50 if you do the shortcut without sacred fire. Maintaining fire isn’t hard just make sure you’re hitting perfects on the boosts and you boosted a bit before hand so you don’t immediately lose it. Also it might be worth risking it to go through the small crack on the left side of the start of the track just to shave a few seconds off your time.

I think the game is great but this is one of the big things that need changing. Down hill ramps need to give speed again and the half pipes on tracks like sewerspeedway, deep sea driving, and hyperspaceway need to be fixed so driving to far up them bump the karts making you lose all your speed. Sewerspeedway went from one of my favortires the one of the worst tracks transitioning over.

Making my way through the N. Tropy times and am having trouble with Dragon Mines. What character class is recommended?

I really like it, actually, perhaps a bit more than Mario Kart due to its more skill-based gameplay and less reliance on items.

3MB is hard to make webm's past the length of 10-15 seconds with a lot changing scenery like there can be in CTR look good. You basically have to drop the resolution down to 360-480p with a 600k-800k bitrate for anything longer than 20-30 seconds. You can get away with 720p/900k b:v for 10-20 second clips possibly.

Like literally every racing game that has come before it and every game that will come after the rubberbanding makes your performance in the first two laps completely pointless. But those two useless laps are always there to pad time. It's fucking annoying. If I'm dead last for the first two thirds of the race I shouldn't be able to easily pull back into first and If I fucking master the first two laps I shouldn't lose to a single mistake in the last lap. Literally any racing game with AI does it, but they all insist on those first two laps that never fucking matter.

I still beat like half the time trials for N Tropy so far, but I'm kinda stuck on Cortex Castle. I feel like mastering u turning is key to me beating N Tropy there. I assume you're talking about Papu Pyramid. I think N. Gin Labs is harder. Both took me fucking hours but N. Gin Labs honestly took most of a day for me.
It's possible you're actually talking about a non-CTR Plat, but there's literally no point in doing those until the inevitable CNK Adventure Mode addition.

I believe this player must have activated the cheat code that turns all boost pads into USF pads. That is not a USF pad normally, so it isn't a problem (unless some god-tier player kept USF around the entire track from the actual vanilla USF pad).

Oxide doesn't use the fence jump and you will need to master the river jump to beat Oxide on Blizzard Bluff. Not a hard level overall in my opinion, probably the second toughest one on the list after Dragon Mines.

Use a speed character and Oxide becomes piss easy on Blizzard Bluff as long as you can keep SF and do the big jump.
For the fence hop, I land from the big jump into a powerslide, use my third boost right before the hop and do it diagonally, from right to left. I still need training but I can do it 3 out of 4 times.

What is this

This is probably game of the year. It’s a contender at the very least. Having only played the original a few times as a kid, it took around 10 races to get the hang of but it’s incredibly satisfying once you get a handle on it. Quality racing games need to make a comeback. The way sliding/boosting is implemented is extremely fun and makes for a great gameplay loop. Most of the maps are awesome. The items never feel too obnoxious unlike in other kart games.
Playing on the switch and my only 2 complaints are load times + the trophy scene (which takes you to a 2nd loading screen).

It's been a really good year so far for games.

Beenox are like autistic magicians or something to make a game this perfect. The only significant gameplay change they made actually made the game LESS casual, since they formalised USF and made it a key game mechanic for high level players. The only flaws are obscure things that can and will be patched easily, like jumping straight to 101% not unlocking the Hovercraft, and the Retro Stadium save issue.

Is it physically possible to use speed characters like penta on maps with sharp turns like hot air skyway and dragon mines or did the retarded devs put unusable characters in their game? The penguin's turn radius is so large there's no way to do that fucking bridge turn without hopping multiple times, bonking the wall, or braking and getting passed by everyone else that just glides past effortlessly. I 100%'d MK8 with a max speed build and only had this kind of problem with a few tracks on 200cc because the tracks literally weren't designed to handle that speed, but I'd expect a games characters to be usable on normal tracks.

I cannot get the platinum relic on Papus Pyramid. Every run I make is at the mercy of those fucking plants. I HAVE to hit those boxes but if they're. Touched ready to eat instead of upright and relaxed at the exact moment I pass by, I have to restart

As far as unlocks are concerned you get a platinum paint job if you get every Plat, so if you do them first you can show off online in-between trying Oxide ghosts

The first plant is the easiest, I usually save it for lap 3 anyway though. Just make sure you're going very fast and headed away from the plant when you hit the box.
For the other two, I slow right down and navigate around to safely pick up the boxes no matter what the plants do. If you're nimble this only loses you a few seconds, which is not fatal even for a platinum relic.

Speed is the best for time trials. Make sure you're triple boosting into the spiral and then just do a slight air brake. Also cut through the dirt near the end of the lap to save time

Bad balancing in the original game. Just wait until you get to Slide Colosseum, you'll have a jolly old laugh at the platinum requirement on that track.
Tracks like Papu Pyramid and N. Gin Labs should've had at least a full five seconds added to the necessary plat time for this remake, but I guess Beenox felt like keeping the torture that is those times.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's harder than 101 Oxide, but it is a real bitch. Hard CTR Challenge Crash Cove is literally just RNG as to whether it's even possible for you to win.
When you get to tracks with any meaningful shortcut, or even just tight turns that players will always be better at, it gets much easier.

It's really noticeable if you use a clock. The Hard AI still moves as fast as you do if you aren't boosting, even with the clock fucking them up.
That's why people who complain about rubberbanding on Hard are stupid fucks. There is no rubberbanding. If you're fast enough on a track where it's possible, you'll leave them in the fucking dust. And if you're slow, they will leave you in the fucking dust.
They are just plain quick, not rubberbanded.

People overrate how hard Papu's Pyramid is. On the last lap, given that you've managed to get all the crates on the U-turn with the plant at the end, you can completely skip that part by hitting the right side of the ramp and grabbing the last box you need.

I'm on Skyway right now and it's literally the last one I need to Platinum, but Jesus fucking Christ is this shit the fucking worst. Too many times have I completely flown over the box after the USF shortcut.

The redone CNK tracks alone are worth the price of admission, and the redone CTR tracks look beautiful except for some places where the modern cartoon art style makes shit look like chunky clay such as in ice levels. But aside from that you get CNK tracks and extra characters and online alongside new visuals and tweaked gameplay that imo made the game more fun.

Yeah, but fundamentally this is a remake. To really expand on the premise they need a new game, and there's no reason a new game wouldn't take everything from this one and add further. Far as we know gran prix support only runs to the end of the year, and there won't be story content added.

It only need be a separate lobby from Race / Battle, the biggest question is if there is enough of a playerbase to support too many split lobbies.

The numbers will dwindle quick, right now there are still players but newcomers and casuals are being run off because they can't manage to finish any races and a kart racer won't hold their attention for long anyway. For the most part, he is a good racer. He takes most shortcuts, and maintains USF for a bit on each track that offers it. He also hits walls, does shortcuts 2/3 times, doesn't hold USF for more than a leg of the track, etc. He's made to be beaten by a competent racer.

I was playing with the analog at first, but I guess the stick is breaking down because occasionally it just wouldn't take my input properly and I'd be unable to turn. Switched to the dpad and it hasn't really made me play any better or worse, just took a little while to get used to it

yes. One new track per GP, also free. they never mentioned the new level becoming bought with points/coins, so I assume it's free, especially since it'll get cycled with the rest of the levels online.

Liking a game does not mean you are free to deny or downplay quantifiable issues. There are plenty of us here that like NF but we still call out the serious flaws we've encountered. One of the quickest ways to ruin vidya threads is to have fanboys defend gamebreaking problems that many are experiencing. First and second Grand Prixs are already known. The Spyro Grand Prix adds Spyro and [/spoiler]Hunter as good guys (Aku-Aku), with Ripto and Moneybags as bad guys (Uka-Uka). The track is rather unimaginatively called ‘Dragon Realms’, and it’s based on the home worlds from Spyro 1 all connected via portals.

The fourth Grand Prix is a Halloween themed one. The added racers are N.Brio, Koala Kong and Komodo Moe. The track is called ‘Firefly Freeway’ and it’s based on the dark levels in the original trilogy. Fireflies light up parts of the track, but they attract monsters which act as stage hazards. So you can go the lit route for good visibility or you can go the dark route for less stage hazards.

The fifth Grand Prix adds CTTR characters; Nina, Von Clutch and Pasadena. The track is called ‘Ocean Commotion’ (in reference to the cut level from Twinsanity) and is based on the Coco jet ski levels from Warped. You primarily race on pirate ships and a tropical island, and you have to avoid all the same hazards as in the jet ski levels.

The final planned Grand Prix is a holidays themed one. You get Emperor Velo, Chick and Stew as well as a track called ‘Winter Workshop’. It’s a big Christmas themed factory track full of conveyer belts and stuff like that, and there’s a MASSIVE jump near the end that puts the one at the beginning of Electron Avenue to shame.

PS4 has better load times and it looks better. Switch version has slightly worse load times, and has trash resolution in portable mode.
That said, I have the Switch version, since the Switch is just more convenient for me, and I have no issues with it.

That's pretty good too. Skull Rock method is mostly AFK, so all you need to do is press Continue while you watch TV or some shit. Jungle Boogie method gets you way more coins, but at the expense of playing a boring track over and over and possibly cramped hands.

cause they wanted to push graphics hard and wanted the 4 player experience to run the same as the 1 player experience (which doesn’t happen in, say, MK8, where the fps drops hard on 4 player mode).

I'm more willing to blame laziness, N.Sane trilogy was locked at 30fps too even when it was on PS4 only.

Have the developers said anything about the save corruptions? I want to play time trial but I'm paranoid and don't want to quit to back up my save after every race.

Can you use air brakes with normal hops to make more narrow turns? I'm still struggling with the U-turn on the Air Skyway map. I can make the big jump and keep boost fine but not quite enough to not fall off the map afterwards. I see speedrunners spam jump after the U-turn to correct themselves but if I do that I lose my boost.

You just gotta make sure you don't hold square on the ground. When I make that u turn and land I immediately do another jump, square+down+left, land while letting go of square.

I find it's helpful to consider all of the u-turn button presses as one motion to be repeated. Also don't do it too early, it can flip you around fast so long be afraid to get closer to the edge of that turn before starting.
