You can use any competent server instead of that EXE - I am using Nginx because I'm on Mac (Linux can also use Nginx of course).

1. Install Nginx with your package manager.
2. Once installed, open up the Nginx config file (for me that was at /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf - but it might be different on Linux, but in any case it should tell you the config file location when you install Nginx).
3. Within that file, there is a "location / {}" block (the only one not commented out with a #). There's a line that determines the root path - for me that line is "root /usr/local/var/www;" - so within whatever folder it says there, put your Mario Royale files; get them from the Discord, or indeed this link here: (if you're in the UK that link won't work unless you use a proxy - I recommend ProtonVPN because it's free and unlimited)
4. Underneath the root command, still within the location block, add the line "try_files $uri $uri.json;" - without that it won't work.
5. Start Nginx (just "nginx" on the command line).
6. Navigate to localhost:8080/royale/index.html
7. Profit.

Linux users should find this very easy since it's just basic command line shit and editing a couple of lines in a config file.

You're wrong, this current way of playing the game doesn't involve reverse engineering. We're using the same server back-end as before - it's still active. The only thing taken off the official site was the client-side stuff (HTML, JS, CSS, audio and images). Someone saved all that stuff a few days ago. So now what's happening is people are hosting the client-side stuff on their own computers (either using the EXE basic web server included here - - or by using another web server like Nginx), but still accessing the original back-end.

However, there is one guy who has written his own back-end which allegedly works: github.com/Igoorx/PyRoyale

I ran it on my machine and was able to connect to it, so it allowed me to play a game, but that was just with me playing, so who knows if it will actually work with multiple people.

Apparently people in the discord say that they will get some proper servers running soon, maybe with that Python server, I don't know.

Copyrighting level design would be like copyrighting sentences and their structures. I know you can't read you dumb motherfucker but even someone as stupid as you should be able to grasp why it's a horrible concept.

So your root directory is set to /data/www - so you need to put your "royale" directory inside there (and then inside "royale" will be index.html, audio directory, all the game files).

You could change that root path to something else if you like. As long as your "royale" directory is inside the directory that the "root" command in your config file points to.

Also when you put the URL into your browser, make sure it's localhost:8080/royale/index.html. If you don't include the index.html it won't work. I know that it's easy to fix in the Nginx config file but I'm too lazy to think of the single line of code that would fix that.
