Public transport is a normal thing there. Most people take a bus or train couple times a day there. Before handheld consoles, everyone would carry around small books. Manga books are a good example of this.

I've been to NYC a few times and it always shocks me to see people still bothering to drive there. Traffic looks like it gets stuck for hours to the point you may as well just have taken the metro or some shit.
Whenever I drive up to NY, I just rent out a motel at NJ and park there and take the metro to NYC.

They play them at work, despite their 14 hour workdays regular Nip produces less profit than regular Scandinavian. They have long stretches in most jobs where the workers do literally nothing but can't go home early because of work culture, salarymen who actually work on those long days are minority.
