Why is Pokémon so successful when Dragon Quest Monsters exists? It's so much better.
>Cooler monsters >3v3 battles, monsters actually interact with each other >Breeding is simpler, better implemented and it's too much fun if you're playing blind >No HM bullshit, dungeon crawling instead >Npcs while looking generic are all absolutely based and they all support you
If you still haven't, do yourself a favour and play it right now. It's great if you emulate it on your phone at 2x speed (at least the music is boring compared to pokemon, you can play it mute)
joker 3 pro never why do they hate the west so much?
Ayden Ramirez
I had honestly never heard of this, thanks for the recommendation user
Benjamin Flores
Overly complicated by comparison with less eye-popping visuals
Eli Sullivan
the whole gameplay is way worse desu. pokemon has way bigger movepools on average. monsters are also way more diverse utility wise. every dragon quest monster being able to learn every move is whack. the breeding paths are also pretty nonsensical for tons of monsters which leads to a lack of identity.
its still fun though. best thing about them is that they dont reuse the same goddamn formula with every title. they mostly just keep the gameplay which is fine.
Logan Lopez
Can't see your mons in battle
Brandon Anderson
Pokemon designs have infinitely better variety and appeal.
Mason Diaz
>Breeding is simpler, better implemented WRONG, FAGGOT BREEDING IN THIS GAME IS FUCKING AWFUL RISK YOUR HEAL SLIME TO GET SOMETHING POTENTIALLY BETTER, AND THEN FUCKING LOSE YOUR HEALING ABILITY AND GET A GENERIC SHITMON THIS GAME BLOWS AND THE FACT THAT YOU NEED SPECIFICALLY BRED MONSTERS TO BEAT IT BLOWS EVEN HARDER SINCE ITS TRIAL AND ERROR WITHOUT A GUIDE
Brayden Young
DQM2 3ds translation when?
Liam Gutierrez
What the fuck are you saying idiot. When you level up a bred monsters it learns moves from both parents. My hoimi slime was the progenitor of a fucking sword dragon with behoma
Robert Sullivan
You should check out Siralim 3 if you like Dragon Quest Monsters. Although I havent played it because it looks so fucking ugly, it seem like a direct DQM clone with more content.
AND THERE'S NO GUARANTEE THAT HEALING WILL CONTINUE TO REMAIN IN THE GENE LINE AS YOU CONTINUE TO BREED AND LOOK FOR STRONGER MONSTERS, SO YOU END UP JUST USING THE ONES YOU RECRUIT BECAUSE BREEDING MAKES THE DESCENDANT GENERATIONS GENERIC
I PLAYED THE SHIT OUT OF THIS GAME AS A KID AND GREW TO HATE IT BECAUSE OF THE STUPID RNG REQUIREMENTS
Evan Watson
>Terry's Wonderland never ever why do they hate us, bros?
Aiden Rivera
Because the series went to shit after the 2nd game.
Austin Anderson
Dude I'm pretty sure you learn them 100%, at least every move I wanted to pass always did. (I've bred some monsters up to +13 or so untill now) Maybe you just happened to fuse them before they learned the spell again. The game shits herbs and potions on you so it isn't much of a problem anyway and I bet you never went to check the library.
Nicholas Rivera
Caps lock is no longer cruise control for cool. Just type normally.
It got a complete fan translation. The real never ever is DQM2 3DS and DQMJ3 Pro.
Parker Jenkins
Can anyone help me find the pastebin from that monster collection game thread that was on here earlier? Is it in the archive I', sop
Colton Thomas
see >
It was in the archive. Next time actually check for yourself.
Connor Peterson
pokemon sounds better
Lincoln Morales
i first played pokemon blue and then DQM as a kid never played another pokemon game after DQM
Christopher Brown
>It's so much better Thread ends here.
No, it's not, that's just your retarded turbo weaboo special snowflakism talking.
Adrian Edwards
As much as I like DQM and DQMJ, I think what irks me the most is the breeding/fusion part. You just let go of that one monster that did you good for a long while because you need something better, while in pokémon even the worst pokémon can pull their weight for singleplayer, and evolution makes it so almost everything will at least half-acceptable numbers.
I only played Siralim 1 and I thought it was a fucking chore. Don't know how the other ones hold up.
Levi Brown
Because by the time Red/Blue came out, we have a fucking anime and toys marketed like crazy.
Adrian Wood
Breeding in DQM is just a worse version of fusions in SMT.
Gavin James
We had a Dragon Quest anime too, even before Pokemon, and that never took over.
Not even in the spic tier countries like mine that became popular.
Wyatt Howard
>YOU NEED SPECIFICALLY BRED MONSTERS TO BEAT IT I literally beat the game as a kid with the first heal slime you get named Hale, a green dragon, and that fucking unicorn. So bullshit.
Hudson Powell
siralim 2 was an extreme improvement overall siralim 3 in turn improves on that again after the main story ends the game is just infinite grindan it is for monster raising enthusiasts only as it quite honestly is a bit of a chore, but it does what it does really well and it has a dedicated niche audience because of it
Jaxson Hall
Played Joker 2. It was shit
>no control over battle actions >fusing monsters makes them lvl 1 instead of gaining advantage >cute monsters though
I'll take Pokémon for the collecting, training and PvP and Shin Megami Tensei for the singleplayer playtrough.
Julian Green
>no control over battle actions what do you mean, you can give commands
Aiden Harris
You know you can get an egg of the same monster you are affectionate to, but with better stats? Just fuse it with another monster of the same type, there are few exceptions to this
Josiah Powell
>no control over battle actions this is actually literally false, you didn't even check out the battle ui you fucking retard
fusing brings monsters back to lvl 1 but skills and skillpoints transfer over max out skills and you can fuse them or unlock higher ranks monsters you fuse also gain bonus stats depending on the parents you didn't even give the game an honest chance user
Lucas Gonzalez
Yes but was it marketed like crazy. By the time it was launched as a game in English (so worldwide more or less). It had: a movie, an anime series on season 2, was considered the "must have" game for your kids, special Pokemon edition of gameboys, was part of fucking national parades in some countries as a mascot of toys.
The entire thing was just marketed so well towards kids.
Dragon Quest always sold like crazy too, it just it wasn't a formula the west enjoyed too much. While Pokemon hit the sweet spot with both Japan and the west.
The one thing that pokemon does miles better than other monster rpgs (at least out of the ones I've played) is making the player care about the mons, both mechanically and emotionally. The progression system ensures all mons are endgame viable, and the setting, themes are entirely about making you attached to your favorite critters. Where other games (like smt and dqm) have the monsters be more a means to and end; largely expendable and usually designed to be replaced by strictly stronger monsters as the game progresses
Which makes it all the more fucking baffling that they'd cull roster by half when the roster is the main appeal of the game, by the games own design principles. What the fuck were they thinking
Daniel Bell
Siralim 3 is AIDS. I kind of dug it for a few hours, there’s a decent appeal to the way the powers interact. But frankly, there’s just too much shit.
Everyone has a power, and their equipment, and their equipment can have powers, and spells have random mods, etc etc. It makes building a team pretty cool, but then the actual fights are just hold A to win with whatever OP strategy you came up with. If you lose it’s because your opponent had something equipped that made you lose, and there’s no way to know unless you stop and check all enemy powers and gear before an encounter. So you can’t just eyeball it and say “oh, I know what this enemy does”. The endless grind is also a bit much of a grind for a grind for a grind, but that’s the kind of game it is so whatever.
Chase Young
Threadly reminder that jade cocoon 1 and to a lesser extent 2 are the best games of this genre. Azure Dreams also gets an honourable mention
Jayden Jones
Dragon Quest Monsters has reskins and Pokemon doesn't.
Carter Brown
The problem with DQM is that it actually came out a year after Pokemon. Also, user, what anime?
Mentions two, but both of those are based on DQ, not DQM. By default Pokemon was more successful as by the time it came to the west, it already had a sequel on the horizon. Plus it had Yellow, the game that was letting you be Ash. Kids ate that garbage up. I know most of the kids had Pokemon Red, Blue and fucking Yellow at school. Why? Parents though Red/Blue/Yellow were completely new games and worth the cash.
Jackson Parker
Good lad. JC was like the second game I ever played on the PS1 and my very first monster raisan vidya. Shit blew my mind so hard that I've never stopped loving monster raising games since.
