Alright, Yea Forums. Let's make a tier list of every single video game character by canon power levels. Post a character and say their strengths and weaknesses and then say which tier they belong in. The rules are as follows:
>The tiers are your standard S, A, B, C, D, E, and F, but there's also a banned tier in case your character is incredibly overpowered.
>This goes without saying, but no OCs allowed. They have to be canon and concrete in a game.
>Building off of this, fighters exclusive to MUGEN are all considered not real video game characters and don't qualify
>Your character must have debuted in a video game. If your character was originally an anime/TV character, you can't put it in
Feel free to argue about viability and be honest about placement. Your meme character probably isn't S tier unless you can come up with an incredible justification.

Mario is surprisingly not too low on the tier list, all things considered, which is mainly due to two things: the super star and Cappy. The super star grants mario extreme resistances towards many attacks, but unfortunately is not total invulnerability, as he can die to lava whilst invulnerable. This implies that other very powerful attacks can break his invulnerability, so the super star could only be used as a get out of jail free card for lighter attacks. Cappy, however, is a much more powerful ability: Cappy grants mario the ability to take over the minds of other beings, granting him the powers and abilities of his host. This ability has a very noticeable flaw in Cappy not being able to indefinitely capture things (see the dinosaur), but also an incredibly powerful safeguard in if the creature dies, mario is immediately ejected, meaning Mario can capture a person, make the person kill themselves, and then be safely removed.
I think this puts mario in the A- tier: he has some incredibly powerful tools, but also is incredibly vulnerable by himself. If he didn't have cappy, he'd be in C- tier.
