Probably has a lot to do with how hard the cell architecture on the PS3 was to work with. They would have basically needed to include PS3 hardware in it like they did with the early PS3's having PS2 hardware in it. Obviously this is cost prohibitive and Sony didn't want another FIVE HUNDRED NINTEY NINE US DOLLAR debacle either. The PS4 also uses x86 architecture which that alone would hinder BC. At least on the hardware side that's mostly the reasoning.

That all being said there is no reason they couldn't have started working on emulation based BC which is what the Xbone does and it works very well with compatible games running better and at a higher resolution than if you were playing them on a Xbox/Xbox 360. A bunch of amateur developers have many games running well on emulation with RPCS3, there is no reason Sony who has access to all the original design documents and engineers who designed the hardware can't have PS3 emulation running. The most likely reason for no BC is that it really benefits them little financially besides making a little bit if they were to sell digital versions of PS3 games and the main PS4 audience of normalfags doesn't give a shit about playing last generation games. They all just want to play whatever the latest yearly AAA garbage is like FIFA or CoD.

Big, loud, always had some kind of software issue that would force you to unplug or reset to factory settings, tiny little controller that needed to be charged every 3 hours, the online service was absolute dogshit, the store sucked, had the worst version of almost every multiplat, and no gaems. If Demon's Souls didn't exist, there would have been literally no reason to own one. The fact that some people could actually delude themselves into calling it a better console than 360 is laughable to me.

Sony is greedy. The Vita hardware has full backwards compatibility with PSP and PS1 games but you can only buy overpriced ports from PSN if you want to play them.
